  1. I know it’s hard being a fan translator because for one you might get cease and desisted if the company finds out you’re translating their intellectual property, two it could be such an arduous task, third people will shit all over your translation for being “too literal”, “ bad prose” etc. I sincerely want to thank you all for helping the medium grow to this level. So, if you’re struggling right now with a translation: Please. Don’t. Give. Up. Because learning Japanese isn’t like picking up Spanish or French, it’s such a huge learning curve and nobody aside from the most dedicated of fans are willing to learn it just to read JVNs. I became a fan of this medium the moment I read Fate/Stay Night by the God and Goddesses of Mirror Moon. After that, I read Fate/Hollow Ataraxia. That wouldn’t have been possible without you guys. While there’re companies that will localize VNs, they have to localize only the ones they can make a profit off of or have permission to do so. Which is very limiting. There’s so many God-Tier JVNs like Mahoyo that remain untouched or the fan translation group gave up. You guys translate visual novels out of the kindness of your heart. I couldn’t be any more grateful. If I met any of you in person, in real-life, I would buy you a beer and give you hug. It’s the least I could do, because people forget how small this community really is. We’re extraordinarily niche. There’s many otaku who have no idea what a visual novel is and they might never even heard of it unless there’s an anime adaptation of said visual novel. But they wouldn’t be able to read it, unless it was translated. Such as the case with Fate/Stay Night and many other visual novels that were adapted into anime. If you’re working on translating a visual novel, please finish it, you may not know, but there could be someone out there who will read your translation and join this amazing community. I am proof of that, and everyone else here who cannot read Japanese is proof of that. I want you all to know that. I want you all to know how important each of you are. Especially, when elitists are quick to belittle all your efforts. Keep going. Keep pressing forward. Fan translators are the unsung heroes of the visual novel medium. You sacrifice time, effort, and many other things to put something out there without any pay. Translating has been such a thankless job, so I will extend my thanks and I hope many others will do the same. Especially since Fuwanovel is home to fan translations. There wouldn’t be a EVN renaissance without you. Hell. There wouldn’t be a fandom or a community here, since you guys literally make visual novels popular in the west.

  2. And with that, my promised commitment to this project is over. As I listen to the last movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony and watch the ring dissolve in the fire of mount doom, I bid this project farewell and godspeed.

  3. Greetings, this is Sekai Project. We love fan translators too! They really help to reduce our workload so that we can release our licensed visual novels in a timely manner like with Tenshin Ranman and Dracu-Riot. If you're ever thinking of going official we also treat our translators really well and pay them on time, just ask Arudoc. Don't forget to support our upcoming Kickstarter!

  4. ???? You do realize the source material is censored right???? It's Japan's law to have them censored. I assume we are talking about VNs from Japan here. If the source material has mosaics and the localization has mosaics it makes no difference here. Additionally, it's not always possible to get the non-mosaic CGs. I don't know if you know this but a lot of the time the artists making it know it has to be mosaics and thus don't actually draw the mosaic parts fully. Thus the "original non-mosaics" sometimes don't even exist even within the Japanese company. Also you kinda contradicted yourself? All-ages has plenty of censorship in re-phrasing more lewd jokes, cutting some non-H CGs and changing other lines. For example ニュートンと林檎の樹. Also, I'm not sure what VNs you've been reading but the first H-scenes are rarely at the end of the story.... They are very commonly during the middle of heroine routes or hell, again in ニュートンと林檎の樹's case or like noble works or plenty of Yuzusoft games though one can argue yuzusoft has no story xD have H scenes at the beginning of the routes. The topic you are bringing up is a consensus shared by many here that we don't want censorship in our games. The thing is, mosaics are not a censorship by the new publishers. It's from the source. What that Reddit post and everyone else is concerned about is the that publishers will change the source material by censoring certain things and changing the source material. And again, since mosaics are already in the source, it's not a valid argument. Edit: Basically we want to say to publishers "Hey, you see these lines in Japanese? Make them English and don't do anything else" And if it's originally mosaic and it's released mosaic then I don't see where this "censorship" you're talking about is at. You are essentially getting what the Japanese players got originally. Isn't that what you want? If you say hey I want you to unmosaic this then I get worried since they might think " hey since I'm changing something lets also change even more things" and that's where I get my pitchforks.

  5. Foreword - No VNTS again, so you know what it means (I'll write another my own VNTS Review here). Either way, I hope that you'll enjoy this week VNTS Review even though I'm quite late here. Since yesterday we have Chinese New Year, I'd been quite busy for two days beforehand so I'm sorry for being late here. Also happy Chinese New Year to anyone else who celebrated it, including me. As for the title, since we have Nine first part released I thought that it would be the best to parodied Nine first episode along with both of the main heroines of that work (Kujou Miyako) and Smile PreCure (Hoshizora Miyuki) into the combined name '9 -Nine- Episode 1: Hoshizora Miyako' because both of their character designer (Izumi Tsubasu for Miyako and Kawamura Toshie for Miyuki) work together in Mashiro Iro Symphony anime, and more importantly both of Miyako and Miyuki did share same seiyuu (Fukuen Misato). My ramble aside, I really like that finally Sol Press did their move on both of their rather big announcements (Irotoridori Kickstarter (KS) and Hitotsuba release) and that they already aggressive on that so we should be more interested with them in the future. Other than Sol Press big move, we have usual fan translation updates along with some updates from Nekonyan so let's see what I can write for this VNTS Review here. First of all I knew that Pulltop did delay their release for their Konosora FD into February because they'd await Steam approval, which is we knew is been indecisive in regard of the censorship. My feeling in regard of that was quite mixed to be honest because while this could be a good slap for Pulltop to not release their work on Steam and started to sell their uncensored VNs on any other store (Beside Steam), this announcement could also mean that some developer would be over censor their localized VNs in order to fulfill Steam's indecisive censorship policy. In the end while I didn't look forward to Konosora FD much, I just hope that we still can see more VNs on Steam despite some happening like HGB and Konosora FD here. We also have Noraneko release announcement here, and let's just said that we better wait for Senren Banka because the three heroines of Noraneko did share same seiyuu as Senren Banka (Kirihana, Sendai, and Kotori Yuka). One more reason for that is because it'll be censored according to the opening that I saw in which they use seiyuu's real name instead of their pseudonym (I did see that they list 'Eri Sendai' instead of 'Haruka Sora', in which the latter is Sendai's pseudonym in the eroge's credit), which mean that they'll release PS4 version instead of the default 18+ version. Let's just hope that they uploaded the wrong opening (Because they deleted the opening) and that they'll release 18+ version later, because I can see that the team could fix their mistake in regard of their introduction intro at their website so at least they should be able to hear some feedback from the fans. From Sekai we have Nine first episode released with the premise the MC who is full voiced (His seiyuu is Atsuhi Abe if you curious) did caught up in mysterious incident case, and while at it he encountered some people with superpower. While this is definitely a VN with interesting premise and have the art drawn by Izumi Tsubasu to boot (The art is very good), it's quite unfortunate that Nine here is the episodic VN which mean that currently the story is still incomplete although from what I see apparently each episode will cover one heroine. In this case the main heroine for the Episode 1 here would be Kujou Miyako who is a rich businessman daughter and yet she's like to live humbly and very calculating when spending the money. In any case, we need to wait for 2020 (Estimation) if we want to enjoy it fully because even Palette didn't create the 4th episode yet, and even longer if we rely on the translated version like us because we wouldn't know if Sekai will announce the rest of Nine here (They should announce those parts if they want to sell the complete story). Have fun to anyone else who already been interested into Nine, despite that it's still the first chapter. From fan translation, we have Eustia was at 65.82% translated along with 45.86% edited and 44.47% TLC-ed, Harugi's overall was at 55% translated with Shino's route was at 96% translated and Branch was at 47% translated (Along with 47% TLC-ed) - I'm kind of curious of how the progress will be going after Shino's route is finished, Watamasu was at 42% translated, Higurashi Yoigoshi's patch was released and the current progress for Tokihogushi was fully ported, 4,719 lines from Pure x Connect were translated along with 1,258 lines of it were edited, Relaxation Yuka was at 66.46% translated, and Hoshiori's overall was at 70.84% translated with Touko's route was fully translated (We may have Touko's patch at this weekend, although I didn't know for certain though). I think that's all for fan translation updates. We have some updates from Nekonyan, in which we have Fureraba FD as their next release. As for their other updates, we have Aokana was at past halfway (60%) translated along with 20% edited and Sukiren was reach 90% mark translated along with halfway edited. From Sol Press we have Hitotsuba exact release date in which they'll release it at 15th later so at least we can treat it as Valentine's gift from Sol Press, and they already set the store at Steam (Good that it's still not banned) so you should pre-order that if you interested with the VN. I admit that the costumes were not as interesting as Aokana, but perhaps this one could be interesting seeing that it involving plane fight as the in-game fictional sport so that you can try Hitotsuba while we waiting for Aokana (Quite fitting seeing that Hitotsuba has been called as the second Aokana). For the biggest news from Sol Press, we have them set up the KS for Irotoridori with rather sizeable base goal at 85,000 with the stretch goal was to released two FDs (Or sequels) at 170,000 for Hikari and 215,000 for Akai. I knew that some people did treat Irotoridori as trilogy, but apparently Favorite did sell Hikari as the FD. As for the release estimation, it'll be at December 2021 later which while I think it's too long actually it's quite reasonable time frame because it'll took many times to translate all of trilogy there. Personally I'm fine with the first part only though because it's been too much dying projects there, although obviously it's very good if Sol Press want to translate all of the trilogy. Good luck to the KS there and I hope it'll be successful for the sake of the one who wait for Irotoridori. As for the current funds, right now the KS managed to gather 28,277 out of 85,000 which is quite good for the first part here. That's all for this week VNTS Review, and see you next time.

  8. There are a lot of light VNs that I am interested in: - Paradise Lost and Kajiri Kamui Kagura are connected to Dies irae - Soushuu Senshinkan Gakuen Hachimyoujin (Senshinkan for short) has already been asked for on twitter. It has also a sequel in Soushuu Senshinkan Gakuen Bansenjin. - Silverio Vendetta and it's sequel Silverio Trinity - Gunjou no Sora o Koete (also has a really good reputation) - Sora no Baroque (light's newest work) There is also a bunch of other chuunige that I would love seeing in Vermilion -Bind of Blood-, Zero Infinity -Devil of Maxwell- and Electro Arms -Realize Digital Dimension-. So light has titles for years as far as I am concerned and I am sure I missed some interesting titles in this list too. Let's just hope that they find their venture into the west worthwhile and start working on more translations.

  9. Yeah, I didn't get into Visual Novels yesterday and I am entirely aware that they are censored by default because Japan is afraid of genitalia. I am also aware that they don't always have the "no mosaic" cgs on hand, nowhere did I say that I believed they are always available. Why do you think Yuzusoft games being translated currently will always have mosaics? Their artists apparently don't draw anything underneath or even make an attempt, just opting to put the mosaic there and make it look like it resembles genitals. Most artists do attempt something but some opt not to as it was never meant to be seen (since Japan). No I didn't contradict myself, all ages don't have H scenes and theres no mosaic to complain about. Sure they rewrote scenes, but since there wasn't a H scene present, there wasn't mosaic. My original point was to ridicule the idea that people who care about h scenes being mosaic or not also don't care about story. No h scenes mean more story and less sex right? Then the "story aspect" would be more important, because you know, there aren't any h scenes. Quite a few VNs actually do H scenes later on, what are you reading? One off the top of my head is ChronoClock that requires you to clear a route to view them, another, Newton no Ringo, usually had them near the end of said routes. Funny to mention Yuzusoft as they will never have demosaic cgs so I wouldn't even include them.(Noble Works was alright) Not a valid argument? I mentioned before that most artists do attempt something underneath the mosaic, but it's "censored" with a mosaic because Japan. The source material was censored to begin with, uncensoring in this case meant removing said mosaics because the laws that force them to be there do not exist in other countries.(otherwise it's still a censored release) So with your edit, you're saying that getting exactly what the japanese players got isn't something being censored? Might want to reread your first line of your entire reply again. What about comedy VNs? Some jokes are lost in translation because of cultural differences, so they are changed to make sense to an English speaker. Asking for a no mosaic cg isn't telling anyone that they have free reign to butcher a story. Speaking of which, how does asking the translator/publisher for a no mosaic cg make you think the translator/publisher will change significant portions of the VN itself just because they added an uncensored cg? Seriously, mosaics aren't the bane of my existence, but localizing and localization means to make the text, story, plot, or other media make sense with a different culture or society. One such change is removing the mosaics, as it isn't required almost anywhere else in the world. (and if it isn't available because it never existed, so be it)
