  4. If we go this route, I think it's only proper to have an "Another VN got MTL'd by SakuraGame" thread as well. True, this could be served by Translation Salt, but translation salt tends to be people complaining about inconsequential things like honorifics half the time, and the SakuraGame topics have a kind of special flavor to them, much like umami. I think we lose something by not having a separate thread for tls bad enough to be MTL. Actually, this got me thinking. Now one of the supposed benefits of discussion is being exposed to outside views that temper your own viewpoint, so let's throw that out altogether and divide people along clear lines instead. We could have two factions of people, either for or against weeby translations. Call them GOAL (Good Online Advocates of Liberaltl) and BAKA (Ban Abominable Kooky Americanizations). Naturally this will cause a spectrum crunch as people rush to adopt one position or the other, losing all nuance in the process and leading to a cycle of hatred and misunderstanding, which is what we all want, right? I'm thinking we add a set of badges to show membership, with choosing a side obligatory for participation in any translation discussion thread. This way, you can instantly see if your interlocutor is a wrong-thinking degenerate and deserves not be interacted with, rather than actually reading their post, which will save valuable time to not use to read visual novels. I also suggest doing something similar for the censorship/no censorship axis, and maybe a few other fault lines like BL, EVNs, Otome games, and the narrative value of porn in visual novels. I fear adding a loli axis may cause actual deaths in real life, so I cautiously recommend not pursuing this otherwise fairly obvious axis of contention. All new discussion threads will naturally have to be tagged under one of these axes; if one genuinely cannot be placed on a predetermined axis, the moderators will watch the thread like hawks for derailment onto one of the well-tread tracks of argumentation and tag it after that. Naturally we need enforcement of membership in the two groups. Someone might try a false flag operation, or muddy the waters in some kind of rebellion against glorious one-dimensional clarity. As such, we should establish a council for each party that may eject particularly egregious members (they may choose to either join the opposing party or bear a "null badge". Rest assured that all party members that wish to remain in good standing will ignore all posts made by a Null, or else.) I strongly recommend that I be given a judging position in GOAL, and for the intellectual luminaries @littleshogun and @Stormwolf to be given positions in BAKA. As Fuwanovel proves, leaders are totally best when absent, so I nominate Tay as the unofficial leader of both groups. I give no particular recommendations as to who will prove to be the unofficial leaders due to the power vaccuum; let the social dynamics sort themselves out, guillotine blades fall, &c. All in all I think I've got a great proposition here. Does anyone agree?

  5. It's that time of the year again. Time to reflect on everything you made of good and bad in the year. But who cares about getting chained down by your past forever huh? So let's skip that part and look forward to the future! To what we can (and can't do) to make Fuwanovel great... again? Did we ever were great? Debatable. So anyways, let's all collect suggestions of changes we want to see here in the coming year. If you're feeling a bit uninspired, I suggest to vote for one of the wonderful suggestions I make below. Because I thought long and hard (aka 3 minutes, rough estimation) in the well being of our beloved dysfunctional community. Create a pinned "Translation Salt" thread under Visual Novel Talk, because lately every single release gets this; Rename Walkthrough section to "SeniorBlitz's Secret Dungeon"; Rename Translation Projects to "Fan Translations Burial Ground" because lately they're mostly dropped anyway; Create a board "Introduce Yourself and Never Speak Again" under Introduce Yourself because yep; Rename Community Coordination and Feedback to "Tay and Co. Burial Ground" (I'm sorry Tay, we love you); Create a pinned "Looking for Hentai Animation or Visual Novel (Powered by Monta93TM)" thread under Anime/Manga Recommendation; Rename Leaderboard to...... anything tbh no one will notice kek kthxbye

  6. The website went into its worst ever Fuwapocolypse because of her silliness. The site was literally done for until Tay stepped in, put ol Cybersteel and Steve in charge for a while as he did a bunch of behind the scenes work to bring it back fully and expand the site. For a while, Fuwanovel had very good relations with the localization companies and forged great contacts with them under Tay's leadership. It was Tay who placed people like Zaka and Decay in positions on the website to help bring an influx of activity and repair the VNTS. Meanwhile Aaeru vanished without a word, got us in big ass trouble by using a pirated version of the forum software, and left the site in shambles. I appreciate what she did starting the site, but its pretty clear to me that it greatly outgrew what she wanted and she likely did not approve of the direction the site was headed (hence her attempts to shut it all down later).

  8. You know, I'm usually a lurker and made an account just for this, but do you really have to be Fuwa's resident 'Negative Nancy'? Glancing at your profile, everything you post is usually either negative or bashing people for not learning Japanese. Just why be so negative, that just leaves a person to feel negative. (Wasn't going to mention but you said "All porn in VNs are gross" yet have a purple-software looking character as profile avatar and, correct me if I am wrong, their games contain a LOT of sexual content having played ChronoClock and Hapymaher.) Can we just make this a nice place that doesn't have the toxicity of Reddit?

  9. Funny how they're able to afford these exceptions for themselves now that they want to use crowdfunding but never gave anyone else this benefit. No localization companies are relying on crowdfunding as a default funding method. The two big users (SP and Frontwing) have been using crowdfunding primarily for physical goods recently. Nekonyan using crowdfunding at this time suggests that the Japanese developers they spoke of don't even have a correct impression of the western localization industry. No one is using crowdfunding out of lack of confidence or because they don't care; it's the reality of this volatile market. Nekonyan wanted to position themselves as "above it all" and capable of operating more appropriately and in line with Japanese devs' preferences. It was a PR move to shape the narrative and make themselves more favorable with fans. Fans gave SP and Frontwing the same go-ahead by backing their projects every single time even with their issues. Nekonyan is asking for fans' approval so they don't come across as hypocrites. I don't even have a problem with crowdfunding, but I do agree that Nekonyan deserves flak for trying to capitalize on people's dislike for Kickstarter and certain companies by finger-wagging and making it seem like crowdfunding is off the table for any reasonable company because the Japanese side has wised up on the issue. Sol Press proved that this isn't the case; the success of Newton's KS apparently opened up many devs' doors to them and they managed to license the highly sought-after Irotoridori no Sekai even though they need to crowdfund for it (and the sequels are even behind stretch goals). Crowdfunding absolutely still has a place in this industry and Nekonyan shouldn't have implied otherwise. This market is still full of risks and that doesn't go away by pretending crowdfunding's only done because of improper business practices.

  10. Indeed. Which is why they're asking their community instead of just going ahead and doing it because it's more economically viable. If fans really do believe that that stance is one they should keep, then keep it they will. If the fans don't mind bending, they don't either. I do not see what is so wrong about a person/group changing their opinion with time. In this sense, I understand what Kiriri meant, though it is not I would've worded it. Instead of "they don't know how to business", I'd say "They now have a better grasp of the economical realities and understand that crowdfunding could open more doors.".

  11. Sorry that I hurt your Kittycat feelings bruh but this isn't about if they are new company or not. This is all about them first basically shitting on other companies doing this and that and how they will be so great and better. In the end they will do just the same thing as the other companies did and this just shows they had no idea how to do this business. If it was doable the other companies would have done it too first.

  12. Nekonyan deserves to take flak for this. In January when they first launched, they sure talked big about Japanese companies disliking localizers 'relying on Kickstarters', even though only two VN companies have a history of that. They went on about it at some length. Then it turns out that running a company is harder than talking trash, so before they've even released all their initial announcements they're turning to Kickstarter. I'm glad they're around and releasing games. Even with them and Sol Press new on the scene, there's still far too many good games to ever have all of them released. But the least they could do is acknowledge they publicly and disdainfully denounced a practice they're now considering embracing not even a year later. Just pretending the first statement never happened isn't fooling anybody.

  17. Because we finally have the release for Sanoba (Well still about 12 hours though), I figure that it would be fitting if I open the discussion thread for this VN. As for my first look here, I like that two of the heroines did have magical girl like outfit so we could say that this could be the first proper VN that did have magical girl heroine, and I say this because Schatten was too much have blatant fanservice sex scenes (I wouldn't deny that Sanoba here was also have a lot of sex scenes though). Magical girl heroine aside, actually Sanoba here was more in line with charage though considering that we could have our heroines developed by going together with the MC, and the MC himself did have some special issue namely that he could felt someone else emotion like taste. Also unlike Yuzusoft other VNs, actually Sanoba did have very obvious main heroine which in this case would be Nene because of the spoiler reason. For the number of routes here, we have four full routes (Nene, Meguru, Touko, and Tsumugi) and one side route (Wakana), with some additional content that will be unlocked later that called Restart. As for the reviews, I managed to find several. One of those was from mod Clephas in which he did post five parts of his review at Fuwanovel blog. Another one is from Joyjason, in which he did give the score was at 7 and it's actually quite a good score considering that he also gave the protagonist score at 7, which mean that at least the MC himself was quite capable (Note that he was usually quite critical on his reviews). And for the third review, well he did say that the VN that a light read if you want to read some VNs that was not trying to do something epic. I figred that it would be better if you check the reviews by yourself in case you didn't really care about spoilers, so here's Clephas's (Nene's route, Meguru's route, Touko's route, Tsumugi's route, and Wakana's route), Joyjason's, and the third review. Here's the heroines of Sanoba below, and as charage personally I think it should be you first interest. 1. Ayachi Nene The 2nd grade idol (And the main heroine for the reminder) because of her outward appearance in which she was quite helpful and sociable, but obviously she hid the secret that was accidentally found out by the MC (Shuuji) in which she was turned out easily got aroused so much that she was masturbated using the table. From there Shuuji find out that her arousal was caused by the side effect of the contract that turned her into a witch (With stripperiffic costume lol) causing herself to be very embarrassed, and Shuuji himself was accidentally hinder Nene's goal. Obviously as the one who cause the problem for Nene, Shuuji must take responsibility to fix the problem. As for her seiyuu, her name is Tanezaki Atsumi although some people would like to call her Kirihana though because it's easier to said, so I'll call her Kirihana as well. For her role, Kirihana was did have works at three other Yuzusoft VNs as well (Masaki Gaillard in Amairo, Lena Liechtenauer in Senren Banka, and Mitsukasa Ayase in Riddle Joker), while of course she also did have some roles in other VNs such as Ousaka Sora from Hoshiori, Ruu from Sorcery Jokers, Fia from Amayui, Hachiroku from Maitetsu, and Ikoma Murasaki from Phantom Trigger. 2. Inaba Meguru The first grade student who is admire Nene very much. Even with her supposed flashy style, actually she was more in line with otaku because of her hobby of playing one person game (Such as otome, RPG, and first person shooter). It didn't help though that she's quite shy and thus did have a hard time to make a friend, and her current style was the result of her determination to get changed. Unlike Nene here, she isn't a witch. Her seiyuu is Haruka Sora, or rather I'll call her with her real name Eri Sendai even though her alias was quite well known in eroge though. Like Kirihana, she also did have some role in Yuzusoft VNs so much that there's a video that's show both of Kirihana's characters and Sendai's characters gathered in one video (No Meguru and Nene though), and her role in Yuzusoft VN were Tomotake Yoshino from Senren Banka and Nijouin Hazuki from Riddle Joker (Both appeared in the aforementioned video). Other than those two, her roles were Kouzuki Io from Dal Segno, Kusunoha Misaki and Rin from Hatsukoi Sankaime, and Otonashi Saku from Hello Lady. 3. Togakushi Touko The 3rd grade idol and also the student council president who was quite capable of handling her work coupling with her willingness to listen to other problems, although she was also did like to teasing others though. Other than that, apparently her family income was quite below average so much that she was need to do part time work, and more importantly she just decided to keep her cardigan that was burst out by the size of her breast because she didn't have money enough to buy another (Presumably). Like Meguru, she isn't the witch as well. Her seiyuu is Kaori Mizuhashi in which her name should be well known enough for Madoka fans. Her role in VNs were Kurokawa Kirara from Yumina the Ethereal, Fushikawa Kokoro from Majikoi franchise, Matsushima Michiru from Grisaia franchise, Kiba Mifuyu from Koichoco, Sawai Maya from Da Capo 2, and Clea from Duel Savior. 4. Shiiba Tsumugi Another witch that made contract, and this time her side effect was very different in which it'll cause her to vomit every time she wore cute clothes or act cute. And like Nene, obviously that side effect causing her much problem because actually she like to do cute things and wear cute clothes (Forgot to say that her witch outfit is quite cute). Since she couldn't wear the female uniform because it's too cute for her, she must wear male uniform in which it made her less cute although of course some people out there still think that she was quite cute even with boy uniform. While technically both of Nene and Tsumugi were rival because their goal was the same thing if we following old magical girl anime, in here they decided to work together. As for her seiyuu, her name is Matayoshi Ai in which she did voice Tsukishima Yuuri at Saku Saku, Amanogawa Saya at Miagete, and Hinomoto Aoi from Da Capo 3. Like usual Yuzusoft VNs, the heroines also did have usual image song and this time Yuzusoft decided to add different ending songs for each heroines, so at least it's quite apparent that Yuzusoft spent money from vocal song alone. Also like usual Yuzusoft VNs, the instrumental version of the heroines image songs was the leitmotif for each of the heroines. I think that's all for what I can write in regard of Sanoba for now, and have fun playing this later.

  18. Since being published by Alienworks in mid-2016, Highway Blossoms earned its place as one of the highest-rated yuri VNs on VNDB and could easily be considered as one of the most successful Western visual novels to date. The game from the very beginning stood out through its unusual setting, plot structure and high production qualities, seemingly appealing even to the more demanding or JP-focused yuri fans. It wasn’t a great surprise then that Highway Blossoms’ authors, despite their second title, The Human Reignition Project, being stuck in a development hell, decided to further capitalize on their previous success and create an updated version of HB, with features such as partially reworked art and full voice acting (the initial release had none). The Remastered edition was released on May 18th 2018, two years after the game’s premiere, with quite a lot of fanfare and became available as a free update for both existing and potential owners of the game. So, how that does the enhanced version of everyone’s favourite yuri EVN presents itself, and does it live up top the hype? Spoiler: it does. Kind of... 19. I believe a benefit might have been given... for the first three or four times. But indeed, they soured up to constant kickstarters and the often poor results, and it was under these conditions that they tried their hand at the business. Disliking the practice of kickstarting one or two titles of every three releases. Unless you claim that kickstarters didn't happen that often. I am acting on the assumption that they did, but cannot be bothered to verify this information. I have no grounds if there were only like 3 or 4 VN localisations total, but I am confident that there were far more, with alarming frequency. Yes. After NekoNyan was founded. It seems they, too, like the idea of crowdfunding physicals. Something that wasn't common when they started the company. Instead, many releases required kickstarter to be brought over at all. I agree with a lot of this. Disliking kickstarters as a means to bring VNs over is one thing, but there was no need to be particularly mean-spirited towards other localisers that were relying on them often. This does not mean that the Japanese Developers did not have the perception they did, even if it might have been an incorrect perception. And yes. Taking this stance was one meant to attract certain like-minded fans. As any other localiser, each has their quirks stances, that attract particular fans. Certainly. And I am similarly certain that the fans that backed these projects were not the ones that flocked to NekoNyan's commitment to avoiding crowdfunding. And following from my previous statement, that is why they are asking their community for their input. Something they often do, about most things, through their forums. In summary, you hold a dislike of NekoNyan for establishing an initial core fanbase by taking jabs at other localisers (mainly Sekai Project, to be frank), and then considering using the same methods, with no regard to the circumstances surrounding any of these events. Or perhaps you simply hold a dislike because you do not agree with their core stance that crowdfunding is an unreliable method that does not produce good results? Understandable, but I cannot say I agree. I have nothing against crowdfunding, but I have seen a lot of poor products come out of it. Perhaps NekoNyan's perception has changed to that the 'evil' was not the crowdfunding itself, but the way it was utilised or who utilised it.

  20. Sadly not many people buy physical VNs which makes situations like this happen. Seems like the only currently viable options are either crowd funding or selling physicals for only the most popular titles.

  37. I'd be pretty careful about saying that. Normally I'd take it as a joke, but the fact that people are making full-fledged, genuine death threats towards localisers lately is... sad, to say the least. Not to mention a constant barrage of personal insults, among other things. I'm all for reasoned criticism, but whew lad The translator has responded to criticism on Twitter, and it's pretty fair tbh. They talked about why they made the decisions they made, among other things. The majority of the game appears to be well-translated beyond the localisation decisions which are naturally subjective. These people are human beings doing their best to faithfully represent the text. They are not secretly plotting with localisation companies to cuck every last visual novel fan that gets off to seeing 'onii-chan' atleast it's relatively unlikely Besides, 'dude' is hilarious. It spawned memes, it's great, and in context it even makes some sense. A noble soul out there is working to produce a patch so that everyone can be happy. Bless them. Bless everyone. Be peaceful, be calm. Love each other. We're all humans.

  39. Nah, Steam is completely unrelated to Chuablesoft's bankruptcy. MG has license for SukiSuki, and solved all legal problems - otherwise they couldn't publish it anywhere. Probably they aren't going to release it on Steam, because there's no all-ages version, and releasing adult high-school based VN there would be quite risky , if even all-ages versions aren't safe, as recent HGB ban has shown...

  41. The first thing most of you are going to ask is why I didn't play Deep One first, given my tastes... but the answer is fairly simple. An a-hole spoiled the entire story on the release day to me in a PM on another site, and I read it before I realized what he was doing. As such, my enthusiasm was dampened to almost nothing, and I'm left feeling listless about everything in general. The commentary about it all over the untranslated VN community only accelerated its trip to being sealed in my archives, lol. I picked up this game mostly because Hulotte games are generally good for cheap laughs and funny characters in slightly mystical settings. This game is unusual for them, in the fact that there is a true path and heroine. Sadly, my tolerance for happy SOL games has gone down greatly in recent years, and so don't be surprised if I'm a bit harsh at times while writing this commentary. First, the protagonist, Yuuma (how many Yuuma protagonists have I encountered now? lol), obtains a watch that can stop time for five minutes from a clearly suspicious fortune teller named Hakua who promptly worms her way into his life, constantly encouraging him to use it for sexual reasons. Sadly for her, he gets bored of the watch inside the prologue, and the watch itself only serves as a catalyst to move the heroine relationships forward outside of the climax of some of the paths, lol. I'll be straight with you... I love Sakura, so when her path was over, I felt like I'd been cheated greatly. Oh, there was some decent drama and incest love is always good for me, especially when her actions are so hilarious. However, this path is the one that decided my impression of all the non-true paths. I felt that there could have been some more detailed drama included in this path, and the drama that was there was mostly her being an idiot. The path took only about two hours for me to read, and I came out of it feeling cheated, somehow. *sighs* Unfortunately, this greatly effected my feelings toward the other paths as I played them, and I became so bored by the end of Noa's path that I dropped the game outright for a week while I did other things (like work and playing random video games) before picking it up again yesterday. I forced myself through Kanon's route, enjoying some of the moments but still fuming about Sakura... and in the end, I couldn't even fully enjoy Hakua's path. Part of that is Hakua's path is nothing I haven't seen a few dozen times in games like this, but that was made worse by my lingering sourness on the game in general. Objectively, Hakua's path is obviously better structured and written than the others... but it follows the pattern of self-sacrificing true heroines everywhere. Moreover, the exact happenings in the story were rather predictable due events in the other paths which established just what state she was in before I even headed into it. In the end, I came out of this game feeling cheated and wishing they'd just stuck with the harem formula from their previous games.
