  1. Thanks for the announcement of the announcement announcement.

  2. I am here to announce that the most recent announcement of an announcement was announced in error. Unfortunately, we're still making the finishing touches on some of the promo materials. We may have a more accurate announcement of an announcement at a later date, but not until we know exactly what day we can make said announcement. I am also announcing that we will be much more careful about announcing announcements going forward. We are very sorry for the disappointment this brings. It was an honest mistake, and we'll do better in the future. We won't say "we'll never announce an announcement ever again!" because it's honestly very helpful to prepare people and get them paying attention, rather than surprise announcing stuff. We promise we'll be more responsible about this from now on, though.

  3. That's right. The title of Avengers 4 has finally been released... alongside its official trailer. A very morbid, somber trailer. Sigh. And so, here we are. With nothing but our wit and our will to save the world. I kinda knew that the trailer's gonna be morbid, but damn, the feels. I got a bad feeling that Cap's gonna bite it this time, considering how Evans' contract is almost up. Sigh... It's been a good ride, Cap. It's kinda appropriate that the trailer doesn't have as flashy or epic of an atmosphere as the Infinity War trailer. The melancholic tone really fits. Things are going to come to an end here. Some characters probably won't return, period... including Stan Lee, with his final cameo. R. I. P. Hawkeye looks absolutely badass. I already knew he was coming back after his strange absence, and I'm glad he's back, but damn... he looks rather jaded and mortified. I have a feeling his family was one of those "snap" victims. He's looking vengeful, even. Alright, forget about Captain Marvel. BRING ME AVENGERS 4! lol May 3rd is a long wait... but I read that the release date has been pushed A WEEK EARLIER! April 26th, baby! Nice, nice, though I hope that this earlier release applies to my country too. April 26th is actually not too long after Captain Marvel (March 8th), and it's kinda like how Infinity War's release date was that close to Black Panther's release too. Anyway, big hype everywhere! Probably gonna post my review here on Day One of release date!

  5. Actually it's not that much different in Japan tbh See, the thing with your quote is that it's Tara Strong. She's well know, of course she wouldn't do any random pornographic scene. Now back to Japan. Did you tried to look for eroge voice actresses? A lot of them go by alias and good luck if you happen to find a single pic of their faces (Of course there are exceptions, like Aoba Ringo). They mostly do eroge and eroge only. And actresses like Sakamoto Maaya and Kawasumi Ayako don't do eroge, except in all ages versions console ports. They're also more well know and they show their faces in events and such.

  6. Merry December! 'Tis the season for everyone to adorn their avatars with Santa hats and forget about them well into February. How does this work? Well, you either edit a Santa hat from below—or from elsewhere on the Internet—onto your avatar, or you get Fiddle to do it. No, he isn't busy or anything. (He probably is busy or anything.) So: if you're too lazy to put a Santa hat on your avatar yourself, then ask for one of the ones above, and I'll put it on your avatar in a mere [INSERT TIME HERE DURING REVISION] hours! Before requesting a Santa hat, make sure: that I haven't already Santified your current avatar during a previous year. that you numerically specify a Santa hat from the list above, or else consign yourself to my artistic taste. that you prepare yourself for the worst if your avatar is not hat-friendly, such as those in which the character's head is largely cut off from view. that animated avatars require a lot of work, and I might not be able to Santify yours. that you are free to make special requests, but with each special request, a kitten dies somewhere. You probably don't have to worry about saving your original avatars, because I keep them all in a chamber somewhere and ping you when Christmas is over and it's time to switch back. But maybe you should save your original avatar if you don't trust me, and I don't trust me.

  7. Denpasoft announced a little while ago that they would be updating I Walk Among Zombies to be mosaic free, and sure enough, last night they put out an update for the game on their store! (Buy it here: NSFW link) I already own the JP version and chose not to buy the TL as a result, but now I'm definitely picking up the TLed version too. The art is so good in these games, seeing it uncensored will be even better. (Just look at the samples on the game's store page. ) It's good to see Denpasoft finally start moving towards uncensored releases, something they did very rarely in the past. They are also putting the game on Steam in like, 10 days or so, though I don't see why you'd wait to get it there when you can just get it DRM free on Denpasoft.

  8. Welcome to the second part of my Yuri Game Jam 2018 summary! Just like the last week's article (if you haven't read part 1, check it out now!), this post will offer you a short overview of visual novels that entered the event this year, this time with the focus being solely on fully-released titles. While in the previous post there were very few surprises (with mostly the two titles I actually expected to deliver quality experiences standing out from the crowd), this time there were a few unexpected latecomers to the event and games that genuinely surpassed my expectations – Scrambled: Syd City being probably the most notable one, and quite possibly the best VN in YGJ this year. It will also make a small trip outside of the VN sphere, but what that is exactly about, you'll see at the end of the article... Enjoy! ----------------------------------------------------------------- A Game About Ants This story about two colonies of anthropomorphized ants and two simply workers that brought those together despite the distrust and differences between them is one of the most charming and compelling stories in this year’s YGJ. Thanks to its relatively longer script (it takes around 2 hours to fully read through), A Game About Ants manages to not only convey an amusing “love beyond prejudice” main plot, but also set it in a pretty elaborate "political" context of a clash between the aforementioned ant nests (heavily inspired by actual species of ants, with their specific appearances, habits and social hierarchies). The end result is a really intriguing and visually pleasant experience, also featuring probably the most sensual scene of antennae “kiss” you’ll ever see in a visual novel... And, quite likely, anywhere else. Do you really want to miss out on that? Final Rating: Highly Recommended Read the full article at evnchronicles.blogspot.com

  9. Yeah, you make a good point. I can see what you mean. I am wondering what kind of plan they'll do for the movie. I was thinking time travel could be an option, but maybe that's too generic. And yeah, this movie won't be as epic, but I'm still excited to see it. It's fun seeing super heroes working together =D. Don't know why I like them so much XD.

  10. I knew beforehand that a lot of things about this sequel would not match the level of epicness we had for Infinity War, because that movie really set the bar really, really high. It's just difficult to expect the follow-up to be as epic, especially with that ambitious ending IW had. So "Endgame" being a mediocre title wasn't really upsetting for me. I did kinda wanted it to be "Avengers: Annihilation" though, with the Marvel villain, Annihilus showing up. It's the title people previously speculated it would be. It sounded like a cooler title too. But I guess it's good that he didn't appear, since having another villain thrown into the mix would probably screw up the plot. lol And when you really think about it, having the title being "Endgame" and then having several characters die for real in this movie... it makes the title that much sadder...

  11. Yes, yes, I agree on both things you said. I know I cried. Something about Tom Holland makes for a good spider man. He just seems so innocent yet courageous. And yeah, I guess we all knew they'd come back but the ending was still shocking for everyone. Heck, even Loki dying was shocking. I do feel like Thor may have suffered the most since this even took place right after Ragnorock. But I did love the last movie. And want to see this one. Also yes, may Captain America see Peggy again. She's a good match for him. It's always sad watching her series because she doesn't know that he's still alive ;-;. One thing I will say I may dislike about the new movie is just the title. For me, and I'm not sure why, but Endgame just doesn't sound as epic as the last movie's name XD. Maybe cause I've scene it before. But still, can't wait for it to come out =).

  12. I think the part that really broke me (and probably the millions of other people who also cried) was the "I don't want to go." lol It's like, we were already understanding the fact that people were dying at that moment, but that line, that single line just shook me to another level of shock. I remember sitting at the end credits being stunned for five minutes, not being able to believe what had just occurred. Big brass balls, Marvel had, to pull off such an ending. We know they would come back but, it's still a very risky move. It's not really easy to leave people with an effective cliffhanger because you'll have a lot to clean up in the follow-up. I hope that if he does go away, I get to cry for him like I did for Spidey. Hope he gets to meet Peggy again for that one last dance.

  13. I'm really excited for the Avengers movie to be honest. The only problem I had with the ending of the last movie was, even though many of the characters died, I knew they'd come back because Marvel has to make sequels for Spiderman, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Black Panther XD. But yeah, this trailer did seem morbid in a way and still sad because for right now so many people have died. Like you, I've got a bad feeling Captain America is going to go. I remember reading about it somewhere where they hinted at it =(. It's sad cause I love the actor and he's really good as Captain America. Still, I do hope Captain Marvel shows up in this. I know the movie is coming out next year. Also, I need my Spider Man back ;-;. Him dying was so sad I cried. But anyway, I'm really excited for the movie =). I really love them.

  14. eeeew, looks like one of them normie movies. gross. but really, im hyped for this. you bring up captain marvel and its honestly weird to have her in the avengers movie so late into the game. we got ant-man back in an official avenger movie which he has been hyped up since like 3 years ago. nothing against cm but yeah, just weird to have her introduced the same year as what seems like the last movie for the op avengers.

  15. What Ren'ai Arrow wrote makes a lot of sense to me. As someone that reads every h-scene because why not, I read what they give me, I also agree that it can indeed mark as a relationship upgrade for the main couple, but still, I think it would be far far FAR more effective if they showed them hugging or cuddling then whispering sweet things then fade to black and showing them waking up close to each other. AND JUST THAT. The description of where the MC's dick is hitting have absolutely no purpose other than fap value. The quotes below are from my stash of bad h-scene quotes. It's supposedly from a important moment for the relationship between the MC and the heroine, but really, can you tell me with a straigth face that it's more than laughable bad filler and a disservice to the characters??? I think maaaaybe the only games that could be better with detailed descriptions are darker eroge, for shock and grotesque value, but even then people are mostly in for the fap

  17. Thank you so much for these posts. Some of the better experiences I've had were shorter, more compact or experimental games like these, and yet I still don't put any effort into looking for them. I remain too focused on longer experiences that let me immerse myself in the character interactions for hours. So, thank you for highlighting these!

  18. Playing Sakura Sakura. It's aight. I like the art style a lot. It's aged well, and I'm sure the stupid amount of effort that went into upscaling made this a much more enjoyable experience for me. TBH, the game looks better to me than any other recent release that comes to mind, probably because it hasn't gone too far down the moe route; modern VNs tend to look a little too distorted, in a cutesy way, for my preferences. I tried Sanoba for a while, but the art is really squishy and rounded, relative to my preferences... The story's pretty run-of-the-mill, but it's been a good backdrop for the characters, and it's played out pretty well. I like the way it's balanced showing off all four of the heroines; I never know where the focus is going to shift next, and the common route is usually juggling background exposition for multiple characters at once, in a very natural way. Good pacing. Doing the sub-routes (like the "seven mysteries" stuff) can make things drag a bit... but usually I end up happier for having watched them. This is also one of the few games I've played where I really feel drawn to all the heroines. Like, whoever is on the screen at any point in time, I'm thinking "Oh, she's my favorite." I tend to either drop VNs early or play them to 100% completion, so knowing that I'm not gonna be kinda half-interested through an entire heroine route is a nice plus. All in all, pretty happy with Sakura Sakura. Still early going, though.

  20. I think it has more to do with a different approach to fiction than being more open minded about sex. Most western magazines for women below a certain age contain sex advice and some cheap erotica like Fifty Shades of Grey can become a mega-seller in western countries. Japanese culture values personal space very highly and prying into someone elses business is considered impolite, so people don't complain about fiction they are not the intended audience for. And Japanese media seems heavily targeted at certain demographics. So when companies release a game or VN they think more about what the target audience wants than what is socially acceptable. Most Japanese young male shut-ins (as seems to be the way eroge-readers are seen) like porn scenes with their waifus so developers include them because they lead to higher sales and nobody who is not part of the target audience is going to complain, like it would happen in western countries. That doesn't mean there is no social stigma towards these things in Japan, it's just that it affects consumers (by getting socially isolated) of such media, not the creators. As to why some voice actresses do porn scenes, my guess would be that it's hard to make a living in this job in Japan if you don't do it. edit: Reading my post again I think I didn't get my point across that well. What I was trying to say is that in Japan disapproval against certain content doesn't show itself through public outcry since that would mean openly shaming consumers which would be considered overstepping your boundaries. Instead these consumers suffer from social stigma which has more subtle consequences.

Translation is a very multi-faceted activity that require proficiency in many different fields and skill-sets, so ultimately you would need to become extremely skilled in both the original and target language of the particular translation you're working on. Learn Japanese.

  24. What Maggie said. They usually go by aliases, so it's not like they absolutely don't care about being recognized as eroge voice actresses. However I think it's true that there's a big conceptual difference in the way Japanese people see their porn in VNs. Because yeah, most of the times, h-scenes are just porn, the cases when it actually adds something to the story in any form being pretty rare. Let's call it what it is, and it is porn. The thing is, in the west in general (and EEUU in particular, I dunno, I'm not 'murican) we kind of have a really hard time wrapping our heads around how porn could be anything more than porn. Either it's a porn movie, or a 'normal' movie. No in-betweens. That doesn't seem to be the case in Japan. You can have an amazingly written story with some porn on top of it to spice things up a little, and nobody bats an eye. And honestly, being so used to it nowadays, neither do I anymore.

  25. Yeah, I did have a hunch it was along the lines of something like that, considering that the more popular Steins;Gate and Fate/Stay Night either didn't have any sex scenes or, in the latter case, voiced sex scenes. Grisaia was relatively obscure compared to those two. Well, it makes more sense now. Still, it's kinda funny, people being asked to voice porn games with serious plot. It's just hard to imagine, considering most American porn stars aren't really talented actresses in the first place. Sure, it's just voicing but... it's just an amusing image, voice actresses asked to act and moan. Obscure eroge actresses or not, they do still offer a decent amount of acting skill in eroge games. It's not something half-assed like in a nukige, where you could tell that the actress barely put in any amount of effort at all. You get stuff like G-Senjou no Maou or even School Days, where a certain amount of convincing emotional voice-acting is required. I guess it's because I've associated "porn" and "sex" with the more westernized kind of ideas and images that went with those keywords, so it's rather difficult for me to take "porn with serious plot" seriously. Whenever I see a "serious" VN like Kara no Shoujo suddenly pull up a h-scene on me with all the moaning that accompanies it, it's just hard to take it seriously and throws me off the story. It feels like unnecessary filler and could have easily been trimmed down to tighten the plot. So it only makes me wonder what eroge actresses must be thinking. Are they comfortable with it? Or do they simply not care? With many "eroges" having serious acting, you could hardly sum it down to companies hiring half-talented actresses for sex scenes that could easily be acted out by porn stars. Then again, on the other hand, I guess you could also say that Japanese people take their sex scenes seriously, and they put in that much effort to ensure the love-making scenes contain that much passion and believability. It's something that I could picture Japanese people thinking.

  27. Maybe I should have stressed the Slice of Life elements of SeaBed more when I recommended it... For me SeaBed is very special because how mundane and noncommittal it is. Slice of Life to it's logical extreme. It's sometimes boring and nothing happens, because life is like that. There's lots of random flashbacks to old vacations and other events, because remembering fun times of past helps to forget the what ails you at the moment. Many of the conversations are pointless, because that's what conversations usually are and people still like to talk to each other. And like I've said before, there is hardly any explicit drama, because no-one wants to make a huge show of themselves. It's easier to suffer inside, downplay own problems, smile and assure to people around you that you are fine. Isn't that what most people do in their lives? But I can understand that for many people this might feel like a betrayal, or why they would find it hopelessly uninteresting. Even the narration is passive, dry, and lacks emotion, and while that can be attributed to Sachiko's mental state, it doesn't make it very exiting. SeaBed challenges many of the traditional rules storytelling and writing, so it's no wonder that everyone doesn't like. But criticising it for not fitting with your expectations or usual norms, is kind of besides the point. SeaBed wants portray the lives of the characters in all their mundaneness (what else would life be?), and I think it does that effectively and well, even if it's not what is normally expected. Not that this is going to make the story any less boring for someone who already finds it so, but I think it is important to understand. I feel it's really encouraging to have a touching story about loss and living with your problems to be so mundane. Why does every story have to be exciting? Are you not allowed to grieve without being dramatic about it? Even something like character development is questioned. No-one is going to stay exactly the same, but the changes are often subtle, ambiguous. Traumatic event doesn't mean you have to change as person. It's okay to be you. "Mystery being not the point", is maybe too strongly worded, but SeaBed isn't interested in taking delight in plot-twist or grand conclusions, like mysteries usually are. For the most the characters aren't even really interested in solving or chasing it either. The mystery is more like a basic framework for the story to function. There's still interesting revelations, subtle hints and foreshadowing if look closely enough (I'm pretty sure I missed some), but on a grand scale of things the mystery is not what matters. But that doesn't mean the story of Sachiko's silent anguish, Takako struggling with losing her memories, and Narasaki's tragic burden is less meaningful. On the contrary, I think SeaBed is effective and important because of it's life-likeness, for better or worse. Anyways, that's just how I feel. If you have questions about unanswered mysteries, I can try to help.
