Ssssslithery greetingssssssssss
Templarseeker and 6 others reacted to MirāNoHebi for a topic
Hi, I like mostly yuri/otome visual novels(I've read Fate/Stay Night though for example). Not really new to the community per say, I've been on the Discord quite a while now(Hi Dergonu!). I have a interest in Japanese culture, and language. I also have a great interest in kei cars that are produced for the Japanese market exclusively, I've owned 2 before, and I'm about to get my 3rd as soon as I get the tires so I can drive it out of port.7 points -

Sony New Censorship Of Everything
adamstan and one other reacted to Clockwork Loli for a topic
And let's not forget how hypocritical the game industry can get in regards to sexual content too. Sexual content in western-made games (The Witcher 3, Mass Effect ect.) is deemed ok, while sexual content in Japanese-made games immediately sets off alarm bells and the push for censorship. Just what exactly is the logical mindset for this anyway? It's like the west is just looking for an excuse to bash on Japanese media, creators and publishers.2 points -

On second thought, maybe I should write a bit more about what I think about each of these VNs. MLA: it takes way to long for it to get good, but when it gets good, it gets GOOD. Honestly, the most emotional VNs I've ever read, and none others come even close. And it also has a pretty decent sci-fi setting and story. Dies Irae: it's way too early for me to give a final opinion about it, but there are two things I really like so far. First of all, the quality of writing seems to be pretty good. Secondly, I can't express it very well with words, but the darker fantasy setting of the game just gives a feeling of high estetic satisfaction. The story itself doesn't feel that good so far, but it probably gets better after a while. Subahibi: basically, a pretty messed up story with a lot of weird sex scenes, lots of references to basically everything, starting with Kant and ending with Lucky Star, but overall it somehow works, and works really well. PS. Sorry for the double post.1 point

SoulSet (Western VN Review)
Plk_Lesiak reacted to MirāNoHebi for a blog entry
This is the best western VN I've read until now. The protagonist is maturely written, the relationships are handled in a straightforward way with no extra fuss. Art is good, story is intriguing, and most of all the mysteries in it are played well.1 point -
What to read next- "kamige edition"

While I haven't read Subahibi, I'd suggest Dies Irae over MLA. Mainly due to the the 2 parts needed to be read before MLA and the annoying protagonist.1 point -

I dare say SubaHibi sounds like the superior first choice...multiple protagonists, yuri.1 point -

Dergonu reacted to littleshogun for a topic
Subahibi, because it got yuri, disturbing contents (Different from guro though), and most importantly the shortest out of all three, and to elaborate MLA supposedly need to go through two long VNs to appriciate it, while the prose for Dies Irae is pretty longwinded and the best version was ironically all age one (It full of crazy battle by the way). I hope that the mod here will have fun with whichever 'kamige' that will be chose later.1 point -
Sadly of those three I've only read MLA, but I don't even think I need to read the other two in order to wholeheartedly recommend Muv Luv. It's just that good, you can't go wrong Of course other people will say the same about the other ones, but with titles considered "kamiges" that's to be expected!1 point

Historically, it's true that conservative media and politicians have complained about sexual content and violence, but I haven't really noticed the sexual content complaints from them, since Mass Effect. On the other hand there's tons of people involved in the video game industry talking about how sexist Japan is on an ongoing basis. I find it hard to believe that Sony is going to change their policies for a couple church mom's or conservatives that don't play video games anyway, but when they're getting bad press within the industry itself, maybe. As a PlayStation Vita owner I've been putting up with having the games I like being labeled sexist or creepy and getting bad press for years now. I could give you guys some examples if you like.1 point

Gate of Visual Novel-ylon... or something
Clockwork Loli reacted to littleshogun for a topic
Welcome to Fuwanovel, and Gate of Babylon attack was surely did have many swords there. Anyway if you need some specific VNs then feel free to ask us in regard of the recommendations, and I hope that you'll have fun here. PS - As for whether you're lolicon or not, well don't mind that too much because everyone did have their own preference after all (Just don't go overboard though).1 point -
Fuwanovel Confessions

Just want to say that the game addiction there was quite disturbing seeing that someone (UnlimitedMoeWorks) could use the university money to buy high end PC, but then again I'd almost fallen in the same trap so I couldn't say much in regard of that case. As for my case here, I think high end PC was unnecessary though in regard of playing VNs, because you can stick with old computer if you just want to focus on that (The ideal requirement should be that the PC have 4GB RAM and 1TB HDD), and it's not like I'm interested with game that have higher requirement anyway. Anyway I just want to say that at least UnlimitedMoeWorks did realize his mistake in regard of his game addiction, and I hope that he'll find a way to cure his depression there now that he started to do it (Although flooding the forum with 'w' was not the best therapy though).1 point -

To sum it up, what we can see is two extremist ideologies that, parting from opposite sides, end up in the exact same place. Nothing new under the sun. And it's always the individual rights that get compromised, sadly.1 point

Sony New Censorship Of Everything
Kenshin_sama reacted to Plk_Lesiak for a topic
This is so untrue though. All kinds of media outlets are traditionally involved in the "video games promote violence" fallacy. It's a cyclical source of sensationalist bullshit that has little to do with any kind of ideology, unless it involves scapegoating video games to detract from discussing actual societal issues. It's tabloid journalism above anything else. The pornography and sexual content in media are a prime topic for various consevative lobbies, like the one that celebrated Valve's move against anime games. They don't focus solely on games, but are also very consistent in their demands for censorship (unlike those "SJWs" - stances on pornography are extremely varied within the feminist movenent and its most harsh opponents are a bit of a dying breed). You'll find religious extremists at the frontline of every fight against sexual content and it's sadly that kind of mentality that drives the policies of many companies, especially in the US. Obviously, the left wing critique of female representation is also a factor, but it's not the feminists that dictated the puritanic approach to public representations of sexuality that is still so prevalent in the US. Some of them contribute to the problem, but not with the same consistency social conservatives do.1 point -

Censorship is just a type of Political Correctness. Both tick me off (especially since extremely corrupt and borderline evil elements are always the ones pushing it). Censorship and Political Correctness (for the most part) are about to go extinct though....1 point

I strongly believe this is the push the japanese game developers so much needed to finally move onto PC platform, which might also indicate a slow end to the japanese console era.1 point
