I've just wasted an hour (which I really shouldn't have done today ) writing a rant on why everyone should support the Frontier kickstarter so please listen to my advice and do it already, so we get that demo retranslation and no one can complain at launch about the inconsistent quality. ;p

Umineko ep 4, and thus the whole first game, finished. Moving onto chiru now! As always I'mma roughly develop some of my impressions and theories in spoilers, though a good review and a great tl;dr would be just ASKDFHSDJJKLHGASRLMDSCMKZ

Would recommend playing the untranslated version of Miagete Goran, https://vndb.org/v16560 Saya and Hikari are both childhood friends and coincidentally, most of the game's production efforts went into their routes(they have a fandisc focusing on these two heroines). I remember giving it a low score on vndb because of my hate on moenovel and the gutting of the h-scenes(I don't usually care about H, but removing something from the VN makes it feel incomplete and awkward). Planning to replay it since the game is really good but now untranslated as recommended by many, you should try it too.

Learning Japanese is something that might seem like a daunting task that will take forever, which probably scares off a lot of people. However, it can actually be quite a fun experience depending on how you decide to tackle it, as it's possible learn it through reading visual novels and other media. It's also quite likely that you will be able to get good enough at Japanese to finish a VN you've been hyped to play before it finishes, or even starts getting a translation, and once done, you'll still have plenty of other VNs to read, that you might never be able to otherwise. For those interested in trying, I hope the guide here will help you with starting out and having a nice time. (note: while it might tempting to do so after you've gotten some proficiency with reading, I'd advise against learning through translating, as it will be much slower than simply just reading more instead, as you'll now have to concentrate on both your japanese and english and the result will probably not be very good yet (translation is difficult).)

Lolicon/Shotacon Policy Pedophilia is an extremely complicated and sensitive real-life issue, and presents a significant challenge to visual novel communities who want to promote thoughtful discussion but are faced with strict laws on one hand and deplorable internet rhetoric/insensitivity on the other. Many of you are aware of how far back and how divisive this issue has been. To protect the site from legal action and to resolve this issue once and for all, we have chosen to amend the site rules as follows. We're trying to strike a delicate balance here -- acknowledging this is part of the VN medium, and sensitive discussions of these topics are important. The new policy: Fuwanovel is not the place to discuss the nuances of pedophilia – in real life or in entertainment. Because they are a part of the traditional VN heritage of Japanese games, we acknowledge that mature, focused discussions of “loli” characters and routes within a visual novel are valid, and we will allow them within the Visual Novel discussion boards, but beyond those confines, Fuwanovel is just not the place for this topic. Smaller punishments like revoking the ability to post content for a period of time can be given out if the situation calls for it (namely for spamming and trolling), without granting a warning point if a Global Moderator sees fit to do so. Warning Points are only given out to reoccurring or serious offenders that do not heed either rules or previous warnings. A Global Moderator is in charge of deciding whether or not a user deserves a warning point. Global Moderators are free to give harsher punishments like suspensions if they clearly notice the violation is severe or has ill intent behind it. There is a 3 Warning Point cap and when a user receives a 3rd warning point, they acknowledge they are putting their account in jeopardy and risk being banned permanently. Do not evade bans, if you create a second account to evade your ban, you risk getting it lengthened. If you feel you were not justly banned, you can PM a Global Moderator with your reasoning and that Global Moderator will bring it up for discussion with the rest of the staff to see if it is valid or not. Username Changes To prevent user-confusion, the ability to change your username at whim has been removed from the user control panel. In case of doubt on whether or not something fits within one of these categories, a Global Moderator can make the judgement call. Spam Content without any purpose, coherency or relevance whatsoever. Singular spam posts are deleted without warning. If a user makes many spam posts in one thread or singular spam posts across many threads, then they are subject to a punishment. Threads or blog posts made for self-promotion (such as links to off-site personal blogs) should be limited to one (either a blog post or a thread) per product being promoted, because such promotion is more easily perceived as spam. Posting for the sake of posting Posting several times in a thread without trying to move the discussion forward and only to increase post count and/or to troll/spam. Necrobumping threads without the intent of moving the discussion forward also falls into this category. NSFW Content that is too sexually explicit or excessively violent that could offend certain age groups. For something to be sexually explicit it must show either genitals, female nipples or sexual acts. Trolling Starting arguments or upsetting users by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages with the intent of provoking users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. Insults An insult is a derogatory remark that labels an individual or group of users. Name-calling is not productive and typically derails the topic by turning the discussion to the credibility of the user(s). It never convinces the other party and often provokes a similar reaction from other posters. The resulting commotion is ineffective for the offender, offensive for the target, distracting for spectators and tiring for the staff.

Good write-up! I can also sympathize with not being wild about the rapey stuff (though oddly, the corruption aspect does make it a little more palatable for me for some reason) but the game looks like it has other good stuff to offer. In other news, it looks like the bonus episode pool got funded, so hooray for having an extra episode! And just a note about the stretch goal: the target is in JPY, so 18.7 million yen at the moment is more like $166.5k, which may still be possible. I just bumped my contribution to the Rebirth tier, and I could probably bump that to the King's Companion tier if it looks like it'll put us over the edge to the first stretch goal. (These are like the only two high-priced tiers that appeal to me) Conversely, if my Rebirth tier isn't needed to get us to the stretch goal I might drop it down a bit. I'm gonna be watching this thing like a hawk and adjusting my pledge accordingly... So close!

You make fair points about Goblin Slayer and can understand why they did skip that part however I sure hope so this wont became a trend and skipping every part where someone might be offended. As for Akame ga Kill ,at first I did enjoy the anyone can die trope at first, however just as u pointed too many death and too fast, really lacking balance. Far more serious flaw was the obvious death flags one could see them from miles away, the icing on the cake was by the books ending guessed the last 6-8 episode exactly who will survive and will die in order. Felt like going through motions, I absolutely despite predictability, second half had absolutely no surprise and couldnt care less about characters.

I agree partway with your point. Kind of like how Rick & Morty's authors, when people were overanalysing everything, they just said "people, sometimes a joke is just a joke"; not literally everything needs to have deeper purpose. However, two comments on that. 1: My main beef with Akame ga Kill was not that characters died without powerful motifs or plot-shattering events, but rather that the show ended up becoming a deathfest where death no longer had much value, neither by meaning or by shock. There's such a thing as overdoing it, basically. In the end, I stopped getting attached to any characters at all, cuz it felt like the author would simply kill off whoever he felt would be most shocking and traumating. 2: In the case of Goblin Slayer, it's not so much overdoing it as it's being unnecessary. One thing is showing how monstrous goblins are, and the reality that in gritty fantasy (and kind of in human history?) women in the middle of violent conflicts gets abused and raped by "monsters" if they are caught in the middle of it. That was done in the first episode, and to the people crying that such things are gratuitous I say "you are buffoons who mistake gritty and dark with edgy and foolish". Those scenes were good to establish the world and plot. But repeating the rape-related scenes in subsequent episodes would be nonsense. The ultraviolence cannot be skipped because it's the pure resolution of the conflict between the GS and the goblins, it is by itself its own purpose. But showing more rape tells us nothing about the monsters, or the characters, or the world. It would be juvenile, and simply the author/team revelling on showing us guro porn. The dogma that you disagree with is less smth the anime fandom believes and more of a tenet in story writing. Absolutely every single scene in an anime has a purpose or meaning, even if that is "showing a girl's panties in an ecchi" or "establish that the characters are travelling by horse in an adventure". Goblin Slayer's ultraviolence sustains itself as its own mark of the house, but the rape "sub-plot" would simply fall short of any explanation other than "we want to arouse people with heavily-implied monster rape". At least, I believe (all of) this.

Well, there's a difference. Rape isn't dark, it's just messed up. Kind of like Lesiak said, the first episode already very clearly establishes the goblins and what kind of creatures they are. Constant repetition would simply be that, boring repetition. What characterizes the show is its violence, which it hasn't really hidden from the public. Death and gore for the sake of shock value is kind of what doomed shows like Akame ga Kill.

Where is the fun in starting a translation project when you can't crush the efforts of another group in the process?

The manga is indeed more explicit. And the second episode of the anime omitted yet another party that went before GS to the old elven fortress and got destroyed (and raped) by the goblins. Not sure if it was to avoid kind of repeating the same thing they already did on the first episode, or that the team was scared so much rape would "doom" the show, but they did censor it.

Dunno about the manga but I have read the light novel, where Veldora (the dragon) does show up again though after a looong time. His interaction then is damn good too. The point where he comes out is Gonna watch Fairy Tail and Index 3 from the sequels, and plan to try out Zombieland saga and Kyuuketsu-san for now.

Took a leap of faith and started Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet. Not too bad, honestly, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. When it comes to romantic anime, I'm more of a fan of the wholesome type of shows, and not the "are we really in love? Let's wait the entire show to see it not get resolved!" style. While in this case the love is technically apparent, its setting assures the viewer most scenes will end up as misunderstanding-style comedy and I'm not sure whether I trust the anime to advance its supposed main plot (I'm such a lil fuck when it comes to mistrusting anime, really). Hmmmm slight spoiler, so~

Clannad and basically anything else from Key. Their games seem fun and I've heard lots of good stuff about them, buuut... nope. Just can't get into them.
