  1. Holy shit we recorded this back when Summer Pockets had just come out. Anyway, in this lovely podcast me, @babiker, @Zander, and @Barry Benson (rip in permaban) talk about fan TL today (spoiler: it's dead, or maybe it's not dead, or maybe it's complicated). Then we talk about the past and present of today's Fuwanovel. Turn up the volume when bee speaks, he can't into audio editing.

  4. I'm a huge fan of those. Your game looks nice and I see a lot of effort being put into everything. Sadly, there seems to be not much that could actually interest me enough to even give it a try. If you're willing to listen to feedback, let me tell you this. One of the biggest pet peeves of the industry is that monster girls genre relies too much on fetishism and erotic content, instead of trying to tell stories. I'd say 90% of games and vns including monster girls are typically rpgs or rpg maker porn games and it became stale years ago. I don't mind them being fetish fuel (it's only understandable from such perspective) and there's nothing wrong with porn either, but it's about time devs should try to actually start telling interesting stories, or at least try to incorporate those into the gameplay. Old folks like me get bored with the same exact thing being done over and over again. I'd like to see more games, that bring something new to the table. I think monster girls are an interesting subject for fantasy-based stories, which could discuss interracial relationships, racism and prejudice or even practical outcomes from such beings existing alongside other races (obviously, we're talking about us - humans - most of the time). It's definitely something that gives a lot of space and freedom for really interesting tales to be told and more or less - something I truly root for.

    What are you playing?

For what it's worth, Yumiko's route was also my least favorite. I liked her character, but her route was for me, as you said, pretty uninteresting. My favorite routes were definitely Sachi's and Amane's. Without spoilers, Sachi is a big hit or miss and I ended up loving it (it might be totally different for you though), while Amane's route is the most generally considered "solid route overall", and it's many people's favorite. Makina is also pretty interesting... as long as loli stuff doesn't weird you out And as you've already experienced during the common route, her lines are gold, so you ain't getting bored. She was my first Grisaia heroine btw, being the order I followed Makina -> Sachi -> Amane -> Michiru -> Yumiko. It's often suggested as a starter route because it provides a little more insight into Yuuji's character, which is appreciated when it comes to understanding his interactions in the other routes down the line. Michiru... I adore her, but her route doesn't harmonize at all with the rest. Really, if you feel like taking a break from Grisaia, reading Michiru's route can ironically have a similar effect

  7. Anybody here likes monster girls? We develop monster girls game and want some input about the story and how can we make it better, It's free to play About This project is still revolves on a man named "Minoru" yes that is you presumably. He is a net and gaming addict that loves to be the top of everything related to game. He was about to finish his current favorite game only to be abducted to another world. Where in this world he lost and search for the way home. He must collect the lust and libido as a key to become stronger and open the way home. The system is RPG Maker default with some gimmick here and there. While there is a lot of meme and reference we inserting, we still hope you can enjoy this game. [SC RPG-August Release] | Siluman on Patreon there is freebies of art-books and sketchbook if you become a patron for only $1

  9. 1. The game ends without really telling us what happened to the "universe" of the VN, what happened to all the characters, etc... 2. The classic VN where the protagonist does absolutely NOTHING, when there's absolutely no dialogue between the characters and for some random and divine reason all the girls fall in love with him. 3. The cliché VN where you're a guy who changed into the "big city" and then 10 years latter you go back to the town you lived before and there is the infamous childhood tsundere friend, a girl that is silent and do nothing but read, the tomboy, a male friend that love playing games, same game, same history, different universe. 4. The VN where you stay locked in a romance route and you can do nothing else but follow that route. 5. When there's a problem and the protagonist isn't clever enough to see the OBVIOUS thing that he should do, and when you less expect, you need to choose a path, both path are bad, and you can do nothing but choose one. 6. A VN that the protagonist is nothing but a spectator, he has no dialogue with the other characters, everyone is talking, but the protagonist says nothing, something around Persona 5, even though P5 indeed has some dialogues, its not that much, considering that he's the "leader" of the Phantom Thieves. 7. A VN that shows h-scenes without they being necessary to the history at the ocasion. 8. Last but not least, the VN that you interact with no one but girls, you have no male friends, you have no male parents, you have no male neighbor, it's only you and the girls (I'm not saying that i dislike girls). I can't say that i hate a non-interactive, but i love making decisions and seeing how they affect the development of the history.

  12. I was wondered why central heroine is only Hiwa, then I saw that it is again episodic game. I am sorry, but 50$ for standard DVD-case box for 1 part of game is terrible for me. No... Unfortunately, no. I can think about full edition, but... Really, I can get nice wonderful package of eroge from Japan for the same price... Even buying physical Japanese edition would be costs less...

  13. I finished the first Volume of DareSora, and it is a bit hard to judge, because on one hand it is pretty short (as to be expected at this price point) and on the other hand it likes to keep its cards close to it's chest and doesn't tell you a lot about what's going on. By the end you are left with a lot of questions, but since it's a mystery and I would like to know what's going on that's good. The visuals and the voice acting are nice and I was honestly surprised to see a choice in this VN, although I would suspect that those don't have much long lasting impact on the story. Despite being a rather simple choice it was interesting in the context of story of DareSora. But getting the last few achievements was a bit confusing because it's not really clear what you have to do for it. Overall it was a good offering for the price and I think you can't really go wrong at this price, but it's clear that this is only the first volume and there is no conclusion so all the critics considering episodic releases still apply. I would never the less like to see this continue.

  14. Playing through 999, which has great music, good characters and an incredible final twist. I emulated the DS version on my laptop, and understanding that final twist made me decide games could tell stories that rivaled my favorite books. That not only led to me finding out about visual novels (and consequently Fuwanovel), but also led me to decide that games were something worth seriously investing time and emotions in. Perhaps I'd have had a different life if I hadn't seen a stranger adamantly recommend 999 on a Turkish fan forum for Nintendo games, especially because said love of games ended up destroying any study habit and self-discipline I had. But here we are, 5 years later.

  15. Well, I get to cross an item off my VN bucket list today - I finished off The Fruit of Grisaia. Just the Yumiko route, mind, but still, I'm really happy about it as it's one VN I've been wanting to read since having finished Katawa Shoujo, which means, in essence, about as long as I've been reading VNs. Unfortunately, though, I didn't really like it and I'm quite underwhelmed thus far (probably due to having overly high expectations). Part of that is probably because I wasn't actually all that interested in Yumiko (I stumbled onto her route by accident) and the other part is most likely because I found her route to be, well, underwhelming. The Fruit of Grisaia Yumiko route spoilers Things aren't all bad though - I really liked the SD art, and the common route sections were great too. I also like the music, and the extras portion of the VN is the best I've come across yet, with several options I've not seen before, like being able to choose specific scenes to replay. I really like the amount of options they packed in there. I'm still hoping (and expecting) that the other routes will be better, and I'm going in terms of least interested to most interested, so will read the Makina route next, then Sachi, then Amane or Michiru (still undecided) before finishing with whichever route from the previous two I haven't read yet. It is entirely possible, though, that I might make a pit stop and read eden* before continuing onwards.

  16. I mean, you're supposed to feel happy and relaxed at the places like that, and the story of Narcissu is just outright depressing. And the problems it raises are a lot more down-to-earth than in most similar VNs, and the story requires some serious thoughts to be understood, so I really just wasn't in the mood for something like that. In my case, my brain just decided to cancel out all the sudden negative experience in favor of all the interesting things I saw in Greece, because I honestly feel like the whole story just went over my head. Actually, I'm not even sure 100% I really finished it back then, because I somehow really can't remember how exactly it ended. I just remember that I guess, I just really need to reread it at some point.

  17. Because it's a story that makes you want to grief for a little bit, and summer resort really isn't the place for that? Would at least be my guess. I would say the best way to enjoy it is reading it on a rainy autumn day with some time to spare for an evening walk to collect your feelings and thoughts after you're finished. I finished Root Double and, well, my feelings on it are very mixed. The overall plot is incredibly complex and the writers manage to pull it off without leaving even the tiniest plot hole open. The way some new information makes you see previous events in a completely new light is impressive. The endings are satisfying (even the numerous bad ones). When it picks up the pace it's very engaging. But there are just too many things that annoyed me to really love it. My main critique is that the storytelling lacks focus. Instead of focusing on the bigger picture it tries to explain every tiny detail. When a bigger twist happens you have to watch most of the scenes again that were impacted by it. When you learn that character X was actually working for organization Y the story doesn't just give you the information and a reason for why the character did it but you have to watch flashbacks about what their relationship to someone important to them was like, how that brought them into the mindset to work for Y, how they made contact to organization Y, and so on. Usually I'm a big fan of "show don't tell" but in Root Double the over-expositon sometimes really breaks the flow of the story imo. Especially since it's often implemented quite mechanically. A major part of chapter 4 is structured like this: Find person X -> short action scene -> flashback -> repeat for next person. At the point you go into the flashback you usually already know too much about the character to really be surprised by what happens. Additionally the story often shows you scenes several times, only from different perspectives that often don't add that much that it couldn't have been handled with less repetition. All that being said, it's still pretty good (I rated it at 8/10 on vndb). I'm just frustrated because Root Double wasted too much of its potential to be really amazing.
