I'll just leave my feedback here since Prefundia may never get around to restoring my comment (which was marked as spam): Ninetail did a great job responding to fan concerns after the early info leaks: confirming an 18+ release on JAST, mosaic removal, and a free 18+ patch for the Steam version to be released same-day. Base goal seems reasonable and likely to be achieved. A gameplay trial (presumably released in time for the Kickstarter?) should win over SRPG lovers. $30 is VERY reasonable for a massive, complex game like this with high replay value. However, I do still have concerns: The project page seems rather "rough". The writing looks like the rushed work of one person without editing. I haven't played the demo yet, but I hear it suffers from similar issues. You really need a professional editor to raise this from "passionate amateur" to "competent professional" tier. There's so much love and care put into the original writing, and it's a shame to see it degrade in translation. At the very least, professional editing should be added as stretch goal #1. You mention that parts of the translation will be outsourced. To whom, and how much? What sort of quality can we expect? Can you give us a sample of their work or tell us what VNs they've translated? Honestly, I'd rather see professional editing and no TL outsourcing, especially with no samples of their work provided. Adding an editor to the TL workflow should increase both the speed and the quality of the translation. It's the industry standard method of localization. Even fan translations use editors, and they're generally easier to find than JP -> ENG translators too.

  4. Sprite is making excuses. Their problem is that their parent company hasn't produced anything new since the original Aokana (as opposed to the follow-ups/FDs). Their other subsidiaries are completely dead, and FDs rarely sell as well as original material (exceptions exist, but they are just that... exceptions). To be fair, there definitely is some contraction. Japan's economy isn't looking good (looking at yet another recession), and the otakus of my generation, the generation that mostly created the 'moege boom' (no, I didn't coin it, I translated it from a friend's sarcastic comment a few years back) by becoming obsessed with SOL have less money to play around with, as they start thinking about retirement. The generation below us (in Japan) is a lot less laser-focused on SOL (fantasy being the big thing right now), and as a result, more money is going into easily available (and cheap) webnovels and LNs. Nukige still retain their relevance (there will probably still be nukige until the fall of civilization or the generation of sex VR using neural links), but visual novels increasingly don't have the material the younger generations want for the rest of it. There will always be a 'core market' for SOL (because nostalgia for youth is an eternal theme), but it is definitely going to shrink. The simple reality is that a lot of companies are already trying to adjust to the new reality by testing the waters in new genres (just look at Navel, for instance), but I really have no idea where things are going to go from here beyond a feeling that the current way of things isn't going to last a whole lot longer (relatively speaking, for someone approaching middle age). Edit: Incidentally, this is just my opinion, based on what I've seen being put out over the last year and a half... the amount of VNs trying - usually in a really half-assed manner - to break out of the charage/moege mold have been increasing in proportion to the rest. There are still a hugely disproportionate number of SOL-focused games, but more and more it looks like the producers are trying to grab the attention of a different generation. My generation in Japan had a toxic level of SOL obsession, and now that they have less money to play with... SOL eroge just aren't as much of a priority. Of course, chuunige (my favorites) aren't in great shape, either (since chuunige companies are historically reliant on the sale of goods and long-term sales over initial game sales). However, in absolute terms, this is a much bigger blow to SOL (though in relative terms a bigger blow to my favorite genre).

I don't like hentai Or rather, I don't like any of the hentai I've seen so far, but you know, that's just captain obvious. I well COULD like hentai though. Very often I'm watching or reading a very hot scene in anime or a (all ages) VN and think to myself "wow, if this was a hentai and went all the way through with this premise and character building, it would be hot af". Unfortunately what you can see in most of the hentai out there is just very ludicrous sex scenes with no logic whatsoever. Am I supposed to get off to some drawings and voice actors doing funny noises with their mouths? Nah, come on. I don't like 3D porn either for pretty much the same reason. Give me a believable couple, a believable development and a good story to go along with, and I'm not made of stone

  9. Personally, I can't read any nukige, really, I already find most H-scenes in eroge boring so you'd understand I'm not exactly fond of reading a story who only revolves around the sex. Also, eroges with rape scenes. I can handle a lot of things, but that makes me extremely uncomfortable.

  10. I mean, sure, I also "hate" dense main characters for plot convenience, poor and out of the blue h-scenes... like everyone else, but hate is too strong a word. I just find that slightly annoying, but it doesn't ruin a story for me. If I had to tell something that in my opinion is capable of ruining a potentially good story, that would be hypocritical moral righteousness. What do I mean by that? Well, surely you have seen a lot of stories sabotaged by it, since it affects most of all the content we receive from Hollywood. It consists in ignoring all and every piece of logic in both plot and character personality as it was portrayed to that point to alter a result that, the writer consider, would be too "outrageous" for the public to accept. Because you know, the most important aspect of a story is its educational value and its capacity to not offend anybody Fortunately this doesn't happen too often in japanese media compared to american media, which is one of the main reasons I consume more of the former. It still happens though, and when it does and the story had potential, it pisses the fuck out of me.

Most archetypes (modern tsundere and loli especially), terrible and predictable writing and story direction, unimaginative cg's which could just as well have been taken out from other vn's, utterly useless protagonists without a real personality, school setting......, too long common routes, protagonist acts like an asexual throughout the common route before he bursts out (i love you > kiss > sex) within the span of five minutes somewhere in the heroine route There are probably quite a few more which i can't think of atm.

  12. Hey, don't you know about the fantastic amounts of amateur porn? For me the most exciting is seeing a regular girl doing whatever. I'd say amateur is best. Besides, amateur covers every imaginable fetish, like hentai. Do you think people could resist uploading those dirty things, and that they would remain in the realm of 2D? No way! As for what Thyndd says -some H scenes work for me, some don't. First of all, I need a proper context: it has to be well conveyed. In some games (for some reason I'm thinking of Clockup's "Eroge" because that's like the last one I played) you can really tell what's going on. It's IMMERSION. But immersion means nothing if the scene doesn't click my button. So I need both well-done scenes, and scenes that interest me. The umpteenth plain missionary or virgin sex with a timid girl (sometimes it's the case, usually not) doesn't look very interesting. For example, I like cowgirl IRL because it gives a lot of pleasure and it's exciting, but it's so common in eroge that for me it's vanilla and I tend to boo to it. If I'm not being "cowgirled", it isn't half as fun. For the record, it's not only H scenes in eroge that have immersion problems, a lot of modern videogames with gameplay don't feel immersive.

  14. About to start Gin'iro Haruka. Been looking forward to this one as i really enjoyed Tone Works other 2 VNs. Recently finished another playthru of Katawa Shoujo as well as Tokeijikake no ley line Part 1. I still love KS just as much as my first time and Ley line was very enjoyable, highly recommend it. Ah and I also managed to get my hands on the pulltop 15x15, cost a pretty penny but worth it.

  20. How on earth would taking corruption scenes out of a game about sexual corruption be in any way satisfactory to the primary audience? That's literally the main selling point. It's a core gameplay mechanic and has entire story arcs devoted to it (optional, but incentivized by gameplay mechanics). The gameplay is great but you can't just excise a major theme and claim it "wasn't important".

Are there any services like Dropbox or the ones you mentioned where you don't have to create an account? If not I could send you the script as a text, which you can save as a .CT file via Notepad++.

  22. Okay, I stuck with my little pet project and now I can finally say "It's done". I spent way more time on the final touches than I'd like to, but at least I learned how laborious polishing a piece of software really is. Moreso if you're not skilled in programming. While the port isn't perfect, it's to the best of my abilities and (I think) worthy of True Remembrance so that I'm going ahead and release an all-OS build. As always, this port is completely unofficial and all credit belongs to Shiba Satomi, insani and all the other awesome people who made the Japanese and English version of True Remembrance become reality. I didn't produce anything new or even better, I only did some petty coding and image editing. To experience the VN as it was intended, read the either the English version handled by insani or the original Japanese version. Naturally, if there should be any complains I'm going to take the port down as I don't want to cause anyone trouble. It wasn't the original intent of this project, but it would be nice if this port will be useful to other people. True Remembrance is such a beautiful tale (and beautifully written on top of that) so if some more people can (re)enjoy it because of this, I'm glad. Through this project I learned a lot about coding a VN in Ren'Py and how it feels to be on the developer side of things, but I also learned much more about True Remembrance. Turns out I more or less misunderstood the story when I read it the first time a few years ago :). Recognising all the foreshadowing on consecutive 'readthroughs' was one of my favourite parts as well as learning always new aspects about the story - Even if the most interesting questions are only vaguely hinted, so I'm not sure if my current theories are correct or not. In any case, while this project took more effort than I expected, I also learned new valuable things. And that's enough of me, back to the port and its technical details. The port is as true to the original as possible, but it wasn't always possible to exactly recreate the behaviour of the KrKr2/KAG3 version. In some places I also made some conscious alterations on the GUI to make navigation easier and the VN joystick/gamepad compatible in case anyone likes to use those. All (slight) changes are are more or less restricted to the GUI, looks of weather effects, the readback screen and used fonts - I would never dare to touch the story. There's also a new config/preferences screen (in place of a dropdown menu) which has some more options than the KrKr2/KAG3 version and functions now as a navigational hub. I also added the possibility to disable the readback and get the default rollback back in case anyone prefers that system over the other. The custom mouse cursor can also be disabled just in case since I read somewhere that it can cause slowdowns on some systems. There shouldn't be any bugs left, but let's see what I missed :).
