  1. The list in this thread is no longer being updated - any future updates will appear on my blog, in this article. The Steam Creator feature is quite a neat thing and I think it can be used to promote quality VNs and good brands on Steam, which are now always at risk of drowning in the sea of crap that gets published on the platform on a daily basis. The devs and publishers are really jumping in to make use of the new tools, so I thought it could be a good idea to already start working on a comprehensive list of creators that are worth following from a VN fan's perspective. When I think it's comprehensive enough, I will publish it on the blog, but for now, I will appreciate all the feedback on the format, descriptions I use or the profiles I might've missed. I've only started going through the profiles and I know new creator pages will be popping up every day in the coming weeks, so this will be a prolonged process. For the descriptions, I include only titles available on Steam in them and state some pretty obvious facts, but I would like this to be somewhat useful even for people that know relatively little about VNs and want to find good sources of those on Steam. --------------------------------------------------- EVN developer and publisher profiles Sekai Project (localization and publishing company, mostly focused on visual novels; World End Economica, Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius). Ebi-hime (critically-acclaimed Western VN developer, most well-known for her yuri and horror titles; Sweetest Monster, Asphyxia). 3. This is my fourth time replaying the Light VN, Vermilion Bind of Blood, and to my startlement, I realized that my only commentary on this is is in my ancient VN of the Month Thread on the forums. So... of course I cannot leave my beloved public ignorant of this game (though I've made a habit of recommending it to everyone, like Evolimit). Vermilion was the first chuunige made by Light's second team, and it was my first experience of the team's work. It is also probably that team's single most balanced VN, and it is the only one I call a kamige, albeit with a few reservations. The protagonist of this story is one Kashima Toshirou (who is referred to in the Western fashion as Toshirou Kashima throughout the whole game). He is a former samurai from the era just before the opening up of Japan by Perry's black ships who became a vampire. Now he is a gloomy man who serves as a watcher for the vampiric community of the fictional American city of Foggy Bottom. Toshirou is something of an anomaly amongst vampires in general... and most seem to hate him instinctively (there is good reason for this, though few ever know it). He considers all vampires merely to be an extension of humans, denying the vampire legend that most believe in, and he has nothing but contempt for those who allow themselves to drown in their power and the arrogance born from it. This game has four heroines. They are: Anne Portman- The first heroine. You are forced to play her route first (probably because nobody would want to go after her if given a choice). Unlike the other heroines, who are more or less easy with their lives as vampires, Anne is a timid, kind-hearted girl who is fundamentally unsuited to being a vampire. Her role in this game is quite similar to that of Kasumi in Dies Irae (more as a contrast in the form of a 'normal person' than as a real heroine). While her character is less than inspiring (that she is a heroine is the only flaw I see in this game), her path is actually quite good, though less so than the others in this game. I did and do find the ending worthy of mention, because it is... pleasant in a sad sort of way. It is also surprisingly uplifting, coming back without being tainted by my dislike for the presence of a Victim A heroine in a chuunige VN. Sherryl McGregor- The victor of the heroine polls twice in a row, Sherryl is Toshirou's long-standing partner in both work and the home. Their relationship is a 'don't ask, don't tell' one where they don't talk about their pasts. It is an easygoing relationship, but it is fairly obvious that Sherryl fell for him decades ago. If I were to compare Sherryl to a translated VN heroine, it would be the adult Cal Devens from Phantom of Inferno, albeit with a century and a half of experience under her belt. Sherryl was born in Victorian England, and her experiences in the slums there shaped her base personality. She bluffs, she fights, and she has a temper... but underneath it all, she is as soft as a fuzzy teddy bear when it comes to Toshirou. She is also a talented singer, a skill she shows off at Casanova, the bar near the office. Her path is the most revealing of Toshirou's past (in fact, that is its structural purpose, though that doesn't interfere with its quality), and it is a fun ride... Her ending is actually pretty hilarious as well as touching, because it is probably the only path in the game where Toshirou manages to move on to some extent (Toshirou is very very stuck in his ways). Sherryl also grows a great deal as a character in this path (as a matter of course) and it is a pleasure to watch. Nina Orlok- The Principal (political leader of a Diaspora, which is the name given to vampiric communities) of the Western US Diaspora, a young woman forced into a position far beyond her personal power by her powerful blood father's will after his death. She sees her duty as the only way to repay her father's trust in her, and she constantly struggles with the gap between what she wants to be and who she actually is. That said, she is actually a quite capable political leader (a given, since she isn't dead or imprisoned, despite being a youngling in a position that would normally only be allowed to an ancient vampire), with a core of strength hidden under the girl struggling desperately to fulfill her father's hopes. I sincerely enjoy her path, each time, because her growth as a character is inspiring, especially once she gets past her father complex. Toshirou in her path is probably the most samurai-like (in the classic sense), and the battle that closes out this path is the third-best in the VN (behind two of the fights in the Grand Route). Ariya Takajou- The Jaeger (vampire hunter) White Pile's successor, who has come to Foggy Bottom specifically to hunt Toshirou Kashima. Driven by her desire to prove herself and a latent fear born from her experiences as a child (her family killed before her eyes by vampires), she endured training that would make a Marine recruit run away screaming to obtain the ability to almost match the physical abilities of a vampire (it is something close to inner qigong). She despises all vampires and sees them as inhuman monsters, but her meeting with Toshirou fills her with a personal hatred, as his obvious (to her) difference from other vampires drives her to obsess over him. Ariya's personality (on the surface) is very... twisted. She is probably the single most sharp-tongued heroine I've ever encountered (she makes Kagome from Comyu seem pleasant), quite naturally using insults in a tactical fashion to get vampires to lose their heads and simply because she doesn't like people. In her own path, she also develops a rather... twisted sort of love for Toshirou (and it is love, mixed with hate, gratitude, and intense sado-masochistic lust). I always rofl at the way she changes in this path, and the ending... is actually really really cool. Grand Route- The Grand Route of this game focuses on fighting the antagonist who was the root cause of the conflicts in the VN, as well as dealing with the origins of vampires in general. In this path, Toshirou finds himself facing his past and looking into the future in a way he doesn't in the other paths. This path also has two of the best fights in the game, including the final face-off between the antagonist and Toshirou himself. This path also gives a really significant insight into the mind of a side-character whom I loved... Klaus, the previous White Pile. The ending of this path is bittersweet and faintly sad (as is common in a lot of chuunige true endings), but it also gives you a sense of completeness, closing out the VN nicely. Side-characters worthy of mention Isaac- Isaac is the bartender at Casanova and plays a key role in all the paths. He is Toshirou's one true friend, and his personality is a cross between a hedge philosopher and a boy who never gave up his dream (and never will). His (oddly troubling) life advice frames a lot of the game's key internal conflicts, and his influence can be felt throughout every part of the game, to some degree. Klaus- The previous White Pile, an elderly Jaeger who fights with a gigantic stake (think a log from a log cabin with its edges carved into a spike-like tip and you get the picture). He is a warrior to the core, a man who hates vampires absolutely and has made a living sacrifice of his life to cleanse as many of them from the world as possible. In contrast, his unstinting love for humanity, including its flaws, is awe-inspiring in its strength, and he has an absolute faith in humanity's potential to rise above its own filth. He saved and raised Ariya to be his successor, and she is perhaps the only chink in his armor other than his personal hate (he normally sees vampires not as individuals but as harmful insects to be crushed) for Toshirou. He loves her deeply, in a fatherly fashion, and it is his love that is perhaps Ariya's greatest salvation, though it is also her second greatest weakness.

  4. I want to start doing reviews of VNs that I have physicals of where I both review the VN itself and show of the physical edition. I figured I would start with the most recent one I have completed which is Starless. First I guess I should mention what kind of VN Starless is. Starless is a hardcore fetish nukige, so if that doesn't sound interesting to you it probably isn't something you are going to like. I guess I should first start of with the general plot, though I will avoid spoilers. In the VN you play as Sawatari a young man who is looking for a summer job. After finding a sketchy looking adverticement he ends up applying for a two week long job as a servant in a mansion belonging to a rich family consisting of a mother her two daugthers and one son. During the interview Sawatari finds out that the job is more like that of a sex slave rather than that of a normal servant, though due to the high wage and not wanting to back down after all the things they had done to him during the interview he decides to stay. The next day a woman named Mitarai who is in desperate need of money also applies for the job and reluctantly accepts it due to her suituation. After this you follow Sawatari's daily life as a servants of the family for two weeks. During these two weeks you and the other servants of the mansion act out the messed up desire of the family as you try to keep your sanity. Throughout your stay you learn pieces of information about all the shady and messed up things that the family is doing behind the scenes and ultimately your aim is to get yourself and Mitarai out of the mansion alive and with your sanity intact. Some things that I liked The art of this VN is really good, I suppose rather than me telling you about it you can look at the pictures bellow or you can look at the screenshots at vndb. As for the music I liked it quite a lot. I found it to always work with the mood of the scene. The main character is actually able to think and I found his inner monologue to be interesting. I really liked how they built up the different mysteries in the mansion, it was quite fun not really knowing what secrets were hidden in the basement and the shady things the family did behind the scenes. The characters were well writen, their distinctive personality really showed. After the first few days they start having sexual lectures and I found it interesting not knowing what type of lecture the next day would bring. I felt that this was quite good for building up anticipation for what would happen next and keep you playing. The VN has a rediculous amount of sexual content since it is a long nukige, I would estimate that the VN is about 40 hours long and most of it is just sex scenes. The genitalia is really well drawn. It covers pretty much every fetish you can think of, excluding fetishes found only in fantasy VNs, you know like monsters. Some things that I didn't like While the music is good there are few tracks compared to the length of the VN, this makes it feel somewhat repetative. During one part of the VN there are a lot of scat scenes, the high amount of scat scenes was something I really didn't like that much. Towards the end of the common route and during most of the endings I found the content to be too extreeme for my liking. During the last parts of the VN I honestly just wanted to get it over with. This is of course based on taste, but if you don't feel up for a lot of really messed up things I would advice avoiding the title. Too many bad endings in my opinion. I really hated the secound daugther of the family, though since the family are the villains of this VN I can't really call that a bad thing. Also while I despiced her I do remember being at the edge of my seat everytime she was involved with something just waiting for her to do something horrible. Guess this is more of a neutral point. Some of the content is censored due to legal reasons, things like scat and beastiality. This can be restored easily by using an unofficial patch, which to my knowledge is pretty much actually an official patch that they had someone else publish to avoid legal problems. While it is easy to fix I think it is somewhat annoying not to have all of the VN on the disc. In conclusion This is a high quality long nukige with good writing, art and music, but it is not for everyone. This title is only for those who really want a completely messed up nukige with a ton of fetishes ranging from slightly messed up to absolutely horrifyingly messed up. Personally I really enjoyed the first part, but as I got towards the end of it I found it to be way too extreeme for my liking. As for whether or not I would like to pick up any other VNs from Empress after this my answer is no, the reason being that I hated the later part of it. While I wouldn't pick up another similar title I am glad to have experienced this title since it was quite a unique experience that I haven't really had before. Translation As for the translation I found the translation itself to be really good, the lines had a good flow and captured the different characters personality quite well. However one thing I found annoying about the translation was that there were a lot of typos. It seemed to me like the one translating did a really good job, but that they then just didn't do proper quality control afterwards. Pictures of the limited edition In advance I would like to appologize about the pictures bellow not being that good, I am not really good at taking pictures and my iphone's camera isn't the best either. Outside of the limited edition box The inside of the limited edition box. The artbook is to the left and the DVD case for the game is to the right. The game itself as well as a user manual and a card with a code for starless that can be used through Jast USA. Of course the DVD works for the game so the code is just an extra. Here are some samples from the artbook As for my review of the limited edition I would say that it is really worth it, the box looks really good and the artbook is really nice to take a look in. If you think of picking up the title I would really recommend going for the limited edition. When I wrote this post the limited edition was available, but it has now been sold out and been replaced by a regular edition.

  7. Since it was bumped once before, I don't think it will really matter if I do it as well. My personal answer - not likely. Why? The main reason is the content of VNs. It was mentioned before that VNs have sort of stigma which would cause problems, but that stigma exists for a reason. Lets look at VNDB. It has over 22k VNs in its database. How many of them have actual plot which is more than "MC sleeps with a girl and a short sidestory"? 300-400? That is about 1.5%. The remaining 98.5% are already dragging the potential down. Now, how many of them is actually good and carries some sort of message? Answer is not many. Many of them are further ruined by useless h-scenes. The vast majority of the world enjoy porn, but would never admit it loud due to the reactions of others. H-scenes and cliche high school setting are like cancer killing its victim. Now, lets look a little further. VNs by their very nature consists of routes. In order for them to reach that great of the level, all of the routes have to be amazing in quality. For example, Steins;Gate. The true route is without a doubt one of the best stories I have ever read in all forms of literature. However, side routes were not good. How could something be rewarded if you had to say something like "the main part was good, BUT that part was trash"... Thematically, such VNs as Umineko - for obvious reasons, ML Alternative - war, PTSD etc., S;G - space and time, cause and effect, Baldr Sky Dive - human, machines, AI, KnS - tragedy, loneliness and acceptance, have potential, but there is just something dragging them down.

  8. Lovely! First, enjoy and have fun, this game is, imho, built around having fun, not having the best servants and that stuff. In saying that here is my 2 cents First, daily missions, I would pay attention to them only in that you want to be able to hit the 40ap consistently as fast as possible if you want any chance at levelling servants up at any decent rate. I would highly use support servants for this and paying attention to attributes (example on a saber day use a 90 (or high) level servant) as they do double damage and take half as much, making the farming for you much easier. Gold embers are what you want for levelling up. Other than that they are just their to get you quartz fragments to give you free quartz Second, This game is designed so that you can complete it using non rare servants. In saying that, take a look at G&A Reviews for a good breakdown on ANY rare servants you get as they give you the pros/cons and what craft essences work well for them, how you can use them with various servants, and it honestly makes using servants much easier as they give you a good look at even lower level ones. In saying all that, especially take a look at their video on the 3star and below best servants for each class. Servants such as Hans, Hassan, Cu, etc are notable but most people don't know that servants such as the fat Caesar are actually pretty damn good. (although this was done at the early start of the NA and doesn't tell you about all the new 3star servants that came out. Third, Liz is a great unit imho for lancers and Marie is a fantastic tank and meme lord. Mash becomes amazing later as a fantastic tank/stall unit with 0 cost (later in the game this becomes MORE important than rare servants). Fourth, My code and ID is here, add me, i'm in a battle atm but i'll accept or add you when i can. My CE aren't usefull for farming as I'm currently doing the Onigashima event...but my servants themselves should prove useful for you. Fifth, Limited gacha, roll only if you REALLY want that character, otherwise look up a review and see if they are worth rolling for. Lastly, Play with all the characters you want, and appreciate all that you got. You would be surprised at how utterly amazing some 1,2, and 3 star servants are even beating out 4 and 5 star (i really wana grail hassan to 100...) P.S. Remember you CAN move the Support unit around in your party.

Also don't use apples until your AP pool is at least 100 or so, otherwise it's just wasteful. The best value for your money would be only buying quartz for the roughly bi-annual guaranteed 5* gacha, in which you're, well, guaranteed to get one 5*. And most servants are roughly equal in power. You should roll for servants that you like instead of holding out for some powerful servant you don't particularly like. Oh, and this site is great http://fate-go.cirnopedia.org/master_mission_us.php#nav Edit: You can only use paid quartz for the guaranteed 5* gacha btw

  11. I think you should also add Frontwing. Nekonyansoft has published one quality title on steam so far and is working on more at the moment so they might be worth adding. Sol Press is also working on quality titles though they haven't released anything yet. Also if you want to find the different publishers in the west you can use my list of all VNs officially released in the west since I have the publishers there as well and most of them have at least published something on steam. Of course you would have to check the quality of their VNs before adding the company, but at least it should be somewhat usefull to make sure you don't forget a company.

    Fate/Grand Order

Hello and welcome! I've sent you a request; you could use my Servants if you'd like (no Jalter though). Weekly missions are also known as "master missions", which are pretty easy to complete. More often than not, you'd complete them without even giving a glance at what is required. As for daily missions, I'd recommend going for the 30 AP ones at the maximum, since the 40 AP ones have a high chance of getting your party wiped out (especially the Berserker, Archer and Saber ones). You don't really have to complete all of them since mana prisms are actually easy to obtain from other avenues and they are just AP traps anyways. As for other general advice, DO NOT spend your Saint Quartz on reviving your team when they get wiped out. I think I've mentioned this on the previous page, but if you are going to be a f2p player like me, saint quartz aren't going to be infinite. Also, pay close attention to Class Affinity and the enemy classes you can expect before starting a quest. I usually visit the FGO wikia to check the class of the enemy boss for each quest so that I can adjust my Servant lineup accordingly. An example would be something like this: Last but not least, ensure that your Marie gets her second skill and max it out asap since that skill is very useful in surviving long battles. As for Liz, well, I can't really comment since I've never used her before.

    What are you playing?

Finished Rina's route in Fureraba. Pretty much the best route in the game, and 2nd best girl overall (Yuzuyu still best girl). And that was the last route. Fureraba finished! Kyousuke's near infinite enthusiasm (and childlike antics) won me over as one of my most favorite protags so far (top 2 currently). Now what do I read next......?

  16. Seems like your questions were largely addressed without me. Anyway, I'm the current theoretical leader of the reviews team, but I don't actually have much control of the reviews hub in general, and I'm not entirely sure of how it even works, to be completely honest. I probably have the ability to hook you up in theory, but I have no idea how. Hopefully Nayleen does. Sadly the reviews team itself is for all intents and purposes dead. I haven't had the time to watch over it like I should, and there are no more active contributors. I don't think anyone will be added to the team either until we either find a new team leader or I suddenly get a lot more time on my hands to properly manage things. I'm reluctant to add anyone else if I can't be around much to oversee things.

  18. Saku Saku: Love Blooms with the Cherry Blossoms Fully Translated Summary Spring is the flowering season, the season of the cherry blossoms. It is the time for first meetings and partings, when the buds start sprouting. Yuma is a second-year student at Mihaya Academy who listens to love problems from girls at the school and gives them thoughtful advice. This has made him quite popular and loved, resulting in a 21,000 yen (taxes included) ‘love bounty’ placed on him. The girls came to him with problems ranging from jealousy to infidelity. Having heard about so many troubles related to love, Yuma lost any desire he had for it. One day, a mysterious girl appeared before him. She had never been in love, but she believed that it was a wonderful thing. She asked him if he would like to be in love, and that as a love fairy, she will help his love come true. A girl who cannot fall in love. A boy who has no interest in love. If they end up falling in love with each other, how will the world change? Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order There are 5 routes. Mio (childhood friend), Konami (blood-related sister), Yuri (Easily embarrassed Disciplinary committee chairman), Ann (Student Council Prez/Senpai) and Tina (Shinigami). Tina's route only unlocks after Ann's route. Walkthrough You probably won't even need this Walkthrough, since the choices are so straightforward. Nevertheless, here you have it. If you find you are missing certain choices, they may be choices tied to the adult content. If your version of the game does not include these, do not worry. Should you be missing any CGs, consider selecting both choices during the adult sections. Konami Route Mio Route Ann Route Yuri Route Tina Route How Flags Work and Other Useless Notes Attribution This walkthrough is based on info attained by playing the game over 20 times, trying pretty much all relevant combinations of choices. Summary stolen from Hau Omochikaeri (according to VNDB) Thanks to CalneCA for telling me how Tina's route works! [Current Tasks: -Make sure the choices remain accurate after official release. -Make sure there are no further choices during the H-Scenes]
