    Hi Fuwanovel!

Hello, My username says "poptartguy87", but you can call me Isla. I also go by Papaira when I'm acting as a developer/artist. Some people also call me "Papa", "Poptart", or more ambitiously "Poptart Papa". I'm from the United States. I have two cats and I really love horror, yuri, and Arjuna from Fate/Grand Order. I first got into visual novels when I read Yume Miru Kusuri and Ever17 in middle school and I've loved them ever since...to the point that I took Japanese in high school just so I could work my way up to helping with translation projects someday. My backlog is atrocious, by the way. I joined because I thought it wouldn't hurt to have an account ready for whenever I wanted to jump into discussions. I'm shy, so it probably won't happen often, but hey, why not. Nice to meet you all! (My favorite VN of all time is Subarashiki Hibi if you couldn't already tell. I think Zakuro is precious.)

  2. Thank you @Mr Poltroon @Templarseeker @Thyndd @Funyarinpa for the kind words and sorry for dumping my problems onto everyone around here. I'm feeling quite better today (and not that much hungover, surprisingly). Drinking usually isn't my go-to coping mechanism, but it was actually my gf who got struck by all that stuff a bit more than me (especially the cat, who was for years her favourite pet and pretty much ignored all humans other than her when she was around), so, me binging VNs or anime alone like I usually do when I'm fed up with the world wouldn't do much to get her thoughts off all the crap that happened. As much as I can tell, I think it worked.

  3. Yeah, somehow these events know how to time themselves a little too well. Very sorry to hear about your cat dying. I still remember how hard it was for me to lose my dog. It wasn't because he died either; he became too destructive after spending a couple weeks at my cousin's house (a very regrettable choice). I wish you the best, and I hope you're able to resolve your family issues eventually. Oh and please don't become an alcoholic! I know I can be a bit of an idealist at times, so feel free to take what I have to say with a grain of salt, but I really don't think friends should be an emotional burden.

  4. Your welcome and it's alright to fall apart and be broken from time to time. Don't be ashamed of that. We're just human beings, we cope up with suffering by expressing through many kinds of outlets to expel it out of our systems. It's only a matter of time your going to feel a little better and refresh since you release it through writing which is actually a good thing. One of the harsh realities I learned throughout my life is that "pain" or "Suffering" will and shall always be part of our lives from past, present, future, until the moment the we descend onto Death's Door. There's no avoiding that, however one productive and sure way in making our lives easier is to "Choose" what kind of pain your willing to suffer, the good kind of problem that you'll enjoy solving like playing a complicated video game or something similar. Choose your battles wisely and always work for yourself before others, it's not selfishness, its called self-preservation for you cannot help others if you don't help yourself first... Heheh sorry I kinda went off topic for I can sometimes become philosophical from time to time, one of few ways I know how to cope up and heal emotional pain quicker is through reflexology or acupressure. It's a better option than going to a psychiatrist or psychologist and a waste of money in my opinion since they're busy asking you lame questions than treating the heart of the problem. Although you'll just have to endure it since it's a little painful if your not familiar with and if its your first time, after the session you'll get instant results in a day! Heck you can even learn it and treat yourself if your desperate or serious enough. I'll even give you a book about it if you like! Anyways hope my advice helps and take care!

  7. Register on this thread if you're interested in participation on a project and have the available time and commitment. Alternatively, you could look for a project yourself in this thread here: https://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/7108-list-of-projects-currently-recruiting/ Format 1) Handle (the one you use or plan to use): 2) Positions you can fill: 3) Types of projects (VNs) preferred: 4) Availability (edit this one as you get involved in projects): 5) (VNs most interested in producing an ftl for: 6) Motivation for joining in on ftl: 7) Conditions* (any additional conditions, under which you will or won't work): *Please mention whether you are fine with working on Yuri, Yaoi and Otome games. It is recommended you don't say 'anything' on your 'preferred VNs' section. You should always pick games that fit your interests or were good enough to keep your interest even after it has tortured you for several hundred hours. It's one thing to take anything when you are making money, it is quite another to do so when you are a volunteer. Example (by Clephas): This thread has various rules to ensure the highest accuracy and usability: -Do not register here if you believe you will be unavailable soon after. Commitment is necessary for projects. -Please make sure to click "Show 'edit by' line" when editing you post, or at least, add a date for when it was last updated if you can help it. -This thread will be heavily moderated to assure only posts which fulfill all the conditions will remain. -If you fail to follow the format you will be PM'ed and we will inquire about what you missed. You will then edit your post with the missing information or will have it edited by a board mod. -People who still remain on this thread will all be PM'ed by a board mod in order to ask whether they are still as readily available as they were when they registered. This will happen irregularly (but probably not more than 3 times a year).

  8. On December 31, 999 AD, the Pope Sylvester II, an infamous blasphemer, who received his post by beating the Devil at dice, solemnly celebrated the last Mass. The bell rhythmically tolled the last moments of mankind before the Judgment Day. “Our Father in heaven, save and protect us sinners from the infernal flames and the hellhounds that bared their fangs to tear our souls.” It didn’t help. The end of the world came right on schedule and showed no mercy. Only a few fortunate managed to escape the cataclysm on a remote and unknown island. This community subsequently spawned the first Pastor, the hierarch under whose government the new state grew and flourished with time. Eventually, new Pastors came, and with them changed the flock. Changed until the handmade paradise was stricken with the deafening thunderclap — a murder was committed. Then another one and another one… At that time arsons, cattle rustling and robberies began. Gradually, the darkness superseded the sunlight… Lambs grew weary of being laid under a hatchet, so they cried and crawled to their Pastor, begging the Father to hurriedly deal with the flayers, restore order in the common house. Thus, the Devoters appeared, the hope and support of ordinary people, their defenders and protectors, making silver linings seen to the hearts tormented by injustices. There is no cold fierce enough, no heat hot enough, no storm or hurricane deadly enough to stop the Devoters from fighting the wicked with seething zeal and ready swords. They live for the sake of their people. And for the sake of their people, they would die. This is their story, unveiled and unadorned, exactly as the Pastorate chroniclers told it over many generations. Howdy, dear ladies and gents. So, that's how it starts. How it ends will depend on your choices made during the game. As of now we're about 80% ready and plan to release the first episode in april. YOU CAN ALREADY CHECK OUT THIS DEMO ON ITCH.IO It's worth giving a shot I promise. Our TWITTER is out there too. To cut is short: you serve in a special force service that resembles both FBI and Inquisition. You're given an elder partner who is really street-smart and has been doing these drug busts and crib raids for too long. Together you gotta figure out who offed the Prefect of the province and why they did it. That's you - Leonard Pinterro That's your partner - Vinnie Boyd That's what the gameplay actually looks like Also we do have a battle system. It's done in the form of a card game. To reveal more info about the setting, the universe we decided to include the Velvet book which is the encyclopedia of the world. It encompasses most important concepts and notions. I would describe this game as a mix of The Wire + Training day + Mad Max + The Wicker man and maybe some "best" parts of GULAG. Please stay tuned for updates and new info for Project Pastorate. Soon we will have other news. Thank you very much for your attention, ladies and gents. ONE FAITH. ONE FAMILY. ONE FORCE. ALL HAIL PASTOR!

  10. I love thinking about sound design in visual novels. To keep this post short I'll just post my two favorites. I've always been fond of SubaHibi's "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus". Whenever this played when Ayana popped up I nodded and went "ah, it's Ayana-san". It feels more like "Subarashiki Hibi" than any other track in the OST to me for some reason. And then there's Narcissu's "Suppressed Lies". It really does feel like a song about suppressed lies. It weighs down on the heart and gives off a very lonely feeling, much like the rest of Narcissu.

    Hi Fuwanovel!

Woah! Hello! I was not expecting this many replies! Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone. I was a bit of a strange kid in middle school (before YMK I was a big fan of Yume Nikki; I don't think most middle schoolers have the patience to play a depressing walking simulator), so I guess you could say I'm an outlier. I was primarily attracted to it because it dealt with tough subjects, and the OST was beautiful. Though I have heard of other people having Yume Miru Kusuri as their first visual novel. Thank you! I still think your name is great. Isn't she? Even though she takes forever to talk, I still like listening to her lines because her voice is so cute. And that scene breaks my heart. It hurts even more if you've read what it's referencing...Night on the Galactic Railroad is pretty depressing for a children's book. Thank you! I'll be sure to get in touch when I've finally annihilated my backlog.

  16. Thank you both for the responses - they're really helpful. I think I'm just going to leave the account as is and if such a conversation happens then set it to private: it looks like they recently made an update so you can hide all game activity from people which is handy. Going to try not to worry about it, otherwise. :(. Really sorry to hear that :(. Losing a pet is not fun at all. Not sure what to say that might help, but I really hope things will ease up (dramatically!) and stop being so difficult and painful :(. There's one thing to add though re the cat - take as long as you need to to process everything. Even if it takes 6 months, or 6 years, you'll probably know when you're "okay" but don't put yourself on some sort of timeline and then attack yourself for still struggling to deal with its passing. Oh no it helps a lot. I agree completely with you, and I think it's part of the reason I'm so concerned - I like talking to them otherwise and don't want to be wrong about having trusted them as much as I do.

Hello Isla, and welcome to Fuwa! It's nice to see another yuri enthusiast on the forums. Hopefully our ranks will continue to swell until... If you need any recommendations for good Yuri just hit me up. Also, oh I heard of Soundless before that's pretty dope that you've created it. I'll need to actually play it at some point.

    Hi Fuwanovel!

Welcome to Fuwa. It's always nice to see new people who seem to love VNs like the rest of us. I really like those two. In fact I would say YMK is a great VN because it dares to dig deep into some serious problems, which a lot of people prefer not to talk about. Because of this I would imagine the intended reader is somewhat older than the average intended VN reader and possibly aimed more at experienced VN readers. However considering this was your introduction and you are here anyway, I might have to rethink the age group. Being shy is fine. In fact it can be hard to be a thinker and not shy at the same time, meaning a certain amount of shyness could be a positive trait, at least in some cases. Just make sure you don't go overboard in shyness and end up not posting when you want to post.

  29. I have 17 hours in Pillars of Eternity 2 at the moment...loving it so far. It is definitely made for multiple playthroughs. Haven't had a huge amount of bugs but apparently one thing did glitch because for whatever reason one of my characters has the funny looking hat from 1 and he's supposed to have burned it.

  43. Good news everyone! I have an immense pleasure to announce that the important challenge outlined in the first post of this thread was taken up by the amazing @HELYEES. At the same time, I want to make clear that it is NOT any kind of bribe connected to the upcoming Panzer Hearts review. My opinions stay completely unbiased and pure, like an otome protagonist in the prologue chapter. And I will stay by this claim even if presented with evidence to the contrary. Now, behold! Once more, huge thanks to @HELYEES for making this absurd idea come through, I hope I'll be able to make use of those pretty soon (definitely not for Panzer Hearts though).

  44. Did you even read what I wrote? Here is a summary: translation tend to be incorrect lines can appear like they are somewhat correct without being so, creating a false sense of trust in the translation quality translation doesn't take context into consideration no consistency, like an object or person can change name, which hides it's the same object no editing. You focus on decoding the text rather than on the contents of the text, which hurts the reading enjoyment What more do you want me to explain? Imagine two people with a boat and they discover a hole in it. A says if they put it in water, it will sink. B says we will never know unless we try it. Why this story? It's because A is very absolute and it's based on knowledge, possibly even experience. B will accuse A of eliteism and wants to go ahead regardless of what A says. It's kind of like the same in this thread. If you already decided to follow the path of machine translations regardless of what other people say, you will see other people as obstructions unless they praise your choice. Same here. If you want to use the software you mentioned, then I won't stop you. My point is (as I have written more than once by now) about recommending using machine translations to other people. Any guide or recommendation should have the disclaimer that there are serious objections due to severe quality concerns.

    A Tribute to Tiag

In response to my friend @Mr Poltroon's grammatically-questionable-but-nevertheless-generous patronage, I've decided to utilize my artistic skills and produce a drawing that does justice to his favorite character, Kilometers Edgeworth. In short, I labored to reproduce the following piece that I found on an insider artists' hub known as Google Images: (I forgot to replace the transparency in his eyes with whiteness, so please don't use a dark skin or he'll look scary and deformed.)

  46. This review was written by fun2novel and edited for grammar and style by Clephas. Etatoto review The mystery genre is one of the most interesting and captivating genres in fiction (Clephas: We are all entitled to our opinions). While there are many mystery vns out there, finding one that has an addictive, twisting plo, and a satisfying ending is a difficult task. It is even harder if you’re looking for something really unique and different from the usual murder who’dun’it, detective, mystery plots... Such as something that will make the reader doubt and rethink what they think they know but also gives satisfying answers. Welcome to Kieta Sekai to Tsuki to Shoujo -The World was Prayed by The Girl Living A Thousand Years- or Etatoto. Okina Seiji comes back to his home town for a visit. After his arrival, he reunites with old friends and makes new ones, goes to school with them, and spends time bonding with them. However, the real reason for his visit is the mysterious death of his mother, and his goal is to find out the truth. Nothing goes as planned, of course. As the story progresses, the mystery grows more and more complex, questions are raised, and more mysteries are uncovered. This is ALL you need to know, as saying anything more than that will ruin the plot. So, if you’re looking for a good mystery visual novel that is not quite the usual kind of mystery, something complex and twisty, this is a game for you. It’s not quite as complex as the Infinity or the Zero Escape series, but it’s definitely worth your time. In terms of art the game made a few odd artistic decisions. While the backgrounds looks great, and the main characters are all drawn well, some of the characters look as if drawn by a completely different artist than others. On top of that, their sprites look rough and sketched in comparison. CGs have a similar problem due to a strange artistic decision to draw the h-scenes in one style and the other CGs in a different one. The non-H CGs look rougher, almost sketched. These CGs still look good and match the atmosphere, so perhaps it was an artistic decision rather than a budgetary one (Clephas: It is Lacryma... it was probably just a fumble). Speaking of production values, the music deserves special recognition. The music is superb, with a variety of deep soothing compositions, atmospheric music, emotional music, and perfectly timed moving pieces. However, there aren't a lot of them, so they might come to feel old with repetition. That said, the music is so good that it shouldn’t be a deal breaker for anyone. There are a few low points in Etatoto’s writing as well. Most of the characters are not especially well developed and leave you much to be desired. Though, this wasn’t a huge deal breaker, as the story was good enough to pull all the right strings. The reason for this is that most of the game's focus goes into the story, rather than the characters. The romantic elements are a bit sub-par as well, since almost every route develops its romantic relationship in exactly the same way, with pretty much the same amount of time spend on each heroine and with the same ‘date’ spot as everyone else... Not to mention, it takes a while for the story to get going. The first few hours were very difficult to get through, but it is still worth it, in my mind. Those slow peaceful times are used to introduce the characters as well as do some clever and obscure foreshadowing about the events to come. On a technical side, things aren’t perfect either. The auto skip function doesn’t work as expected (Clephas: Lacryma's technical staff sucks), and sometimes it just doesn’t work at all. At other times, it takes a little longer to load the backgrounds after you resume from a saved game. These are relatively small annoyances that could (and most likely will) be patched later; so, thankfully, they don’t become an obstacle for enjoying the experience of the VN as a whole. In conclusion, talking about Etatoto is difficult without spoiling the intricate details of its plot. It’s the kind of VN where you should avoid searching for more information than is contained within this review. This gives you a good idea of the pros and cons of the game, and with a little patience, a mystery lover will get hooked on what is probably one of the best mystery visual novels in a while.
