  1. Hello again. Today, I have the third week of progress updates. Editing has finally started for the project, so that's pretty nice Translation: Prologue - 46% (829/1791) TLC Prologue - 27% (486/1791) Edit Prologue - 16% (279/1791) We are still looking for a dedicated TLC as the other translator is only doing it for the prologue. Also, we are looking for people to fill in the QC position as well. If you think you are capable enough for either of these positions, please PM me. Also, everybody can view live progress on this project from this website. I'll put it in the original post as well. https://cookie4.com/projects/haruuru/progress/ That's all for this week. I'll see you next week with some more progress.

  5. I basically went with this distinction here. I believe it would be common to consider this "yuri". As this is an all-ages title and there is no explicit sexual content, shoujo-ai may be more appropriate. (At least by VNDB standards.) However, I assure you there is romance involved. You tell me bats, you tell me.

  7. Ebi-hime is one of the very few OELVN developers who managed to establish themselves as reliable and respected creators even among the JP-centric visual novel fans. Having released over 20 titles since 2013, both freeware and commercial, she is probably best-known for her yuri titles, such as Asphyxia and The Sad Story of Emmeline Burns, and memorable horror stories, such as Sweetest Monster and The Way We All Go. Most of her work stands out through uncommon, Western settings, a deep connection to English culture and literature, and artwork that diverge in various ways from generic, anime-style illustrations you can find in most EVNs. Blackberry Honey, ebi-hime’s latest commercial VN, is both a very typical title for her – with its yuri themes, Victorian England setting and interesting stylization – and an unusual one, as it the first project of hers to include explicit sexual content, through an optional 18+ patch. So, how did this venture into the world of eroge turned out for the OELVN scene’s star creator? The game has its share of interesting and surprising moments, but the overall pacing is painfully slow and predictable, even for a romance Blackberry Honey follows the story of Lorina Waugh, a young, poor maid that starts working in a rural residence of Bly, after being sent off in disgrace from her previous job, in unclear circumstances. Being mistreated by some of the older maids in the estate and Lady Constance, the young daughter of the owners, she struggles desperately to hold on to her position, so she can financially support her mother and sisters. After being hurt while performing a pointless chore for Constance, she stumbles upon the Bly’s unusual, foreign-looking parlour maid, Taohua, sparking a relationship that will completely change her life. Hello, Kiri desu. On this week's blog we will be going over why blonde hair is so bad that I claim it to be. First on our list is that many blonde girls are gaijins (foreigners.) First example is Lena from Senren Banka: She just memes around and uses Nippongo (Japanese) all wrong all the time saying fucked up things. Also look at those massive boobs she has on that pic + that beautiful neck. SMH Just absolutely adorable. HONTO KAWAII Second example is our ninja enthusiastic A-chan from FloFlo Just like Lena she has some wrong (very) impressions of Japan. Here we can listen to her talk. Absolutely cute. Second on our list is that blonde hair is often related to gyarus or delinquents. First one of these beauties is girl called Reina from Kirikoi. She is one of my favorite girls. Girls that are always happy and are not afraid to take skin contact and comfort you when you are feeling down are truly precious treasures. Second beauty is Ria from Kirikoi too. She is a delinquent but actually cares for others efven though she doesn't show it. Very good. Third and last thing on our list is that some of them are TSUNDERES. Tsunderes are literally the best thing that has happened to the humanity (after blondes.) No other explanation needed. -END-

  9. I added Poll to the main topic. I see in walkthroughs the black hair heroine isn't always named so I put a vague name just in case unless it's ok to put her actual name.

  11. Nice review there! I remember seeing this on steam before it was released but I had no idea it was a yuri title. I'll have to get it next time it's on sale. The world needs more Yuri

  12. The distinction between shoujo-ai and yuri as it's used on VNDB is a very technical/artificial one, at least nowadays. Most people will consider any VN with primarily GxG romance or even romantic subtext between female cast a "yuri", while many western otome will have some female/female romance routes. Outside of database environment where such clear distintions are necessary, actual boundaries are much less clear.

  14. Actually, this looks vastly more interesting than those Sono Hanabira yuri shovelware titles. The art is really stylish and somehow reminds me a bit of Liar-soft's Steampunk titles. The story sounds interesting and with mystery and suspense 3.0 tags on VNDB it seems to be right up my alley. Somehow completely missed its release though - the title wasn't really on my radar for some reason. I might even pick that up as one of my next story titles. There aren't a lot of other story titles I'm interested in left anyway, and Aoshiro already proved to me that yuri stitles can be pretty decent story titles too. Such a shame that Flowers was so disappointing (at least the first part).

  15. Thx for pinning the thread, I am also confident that I will manage to keep the list updated, so it shouldn't end up like most of the old lists.

  20. do you already solve this problem yet? guess i found new workaround for this... i tested this game yesterday try this: lets assume this is the japanese text これは日本語テキストです。 これは新しい行です。 you want to make it looks like this: これは日本語テキストです。 これは新しい行です。 so do this: これは日本語テキストです。[r] これは新しい行です。 <move this to the new line with Enter put [r] instead of \n and after that, hit enter so that the text split to the new line let me know if this works, but if you already solve this problem, just ignore it.

  21. Umineko, definitely. I can't really say much without spoiling the whole VN, and those who read it should understand why I chose it, but, basically, its uniqueness is basically the main reason why I like Umineko so much, and it's what sold the game to originally.

  22. Well, it's the common problem with the community-ran databases and wikis that sometimes people who contribute to them just don't put enough thought and effort to make their contributions actually good. To be honest, I have no idea how it's possible to make a game where ending tags wouldn't be a spoiler, at least a minor one. I think, vndb developers should just make it so that it's impossible to set these tags to "not a spoiler". I just looked up what popular VNs are marked with "only bad endings" without spoilers, and it's just stupid. Talking more generally about spoilers in vndb tags, I'm pretty torn on this issue. To be honest, if you care about spoilers so much that you prefer going in completely blind, you shouldn't read vndb tags at all. For example, even the tags like "Osananajimi heroine" are technically a spoiler since some people may prefer to learn about heroines only after they start a game. So, it's quite obvious that the line between something that should be tagged as a spoiler and something that shouldn't is pretty vague. But here we must remember why tags exist in the first place: they are mean to help people to choose that VN they want to read next. I think, no actual spoilers should be allowed, but the tags should give the general idea on what the game is about thematically. In that sense, I disagree with @SeniorBlitz, I don't think more genre-related tags such as "Nakige" or "Utsuge" (or "Denpa") shouldn't be hidden, unless there is a massive tone shift in the middle or something like that. In most cases these tags are a) basically the main selling point of the game; b) are so vague that you basically get nothing about the game from knowing them. Like, the only thing that you get from the Nakige tag is that the game is going to try to make you cry at some point. Does this count as a spoiler? I don't think so.

  23. In my opinion, if the setting is in Japan, then definitely keep the honorifics. Otherwise, remove them. That's the best way to go about it. Hentai generally means pervert though.

    HELP!!

Assuming you want more serious type of mystery: Umineko series - a must read. Personally I consider this to be the best VN series ever. Story is very well written, characters developed. Furthermore, its soundtrack is amazing. Just make sure to read it in the right order. Also, the entire story is very long. From what I heard it took at least 90-100 hours to complete it for most readers. Kara no Shoujo series - this is another great detective story, but I have to warn you. If you have weak stomach and cannot handle horror elements (dead bodies at least), you might want to avoid it. Sharin no Kuni - probably the closest thing that I can recommend as something similar to G-Senjou, though not really a mystery VN. Not in terms of plot, but rather feeling it gives. Though, G-Senjou was vastly superior to me.

  25. Saya no Uta for having two major endings suited for whether you felt sympathy for the main couple or not. That's something that is not talked about enough for that VN.

  26. Honestly dude, it'd be better to criticize the editing on such a line instead of the translation aspect if you have no clue about the TL Chuee does have major issues admitting his editing is below average after all.

  27. DDLC - mostly because of all the visual tricks and interesting details the author used to enhance the horror. CUPID - because of the unique choice system (being a voice in the head of psychologically unstable protagonist) and non-chronological structure of the story.

  28. Editing aside, in terms of the tone used, the translation is pretty much exactly the same as the Japanese line. It's just someone casually asking their parent if they can turn on the TV. Nothing is lost in the translation at all. (There is no form of title used for the mother, and everything is said in plain forms.) I get why some people might have an issue with the editing of said line, but saying it changes the meaning from the JP line is simply incorrect.

  29. If you don't know japanese and are admitting that you're not an expert at it, then I don't know why you're commenting on its faithfulness. Either way, the language being used in the japanese version is very casual, so equivalently casual language is being used in the translation. The english version of those lines pretty accurately depict the tone in the japanese lines. I would like to know how you think japanese families talk to each other, if not in this kind of casual tone.

  30. Umineko hands down. While it is one of the best known and the most popular translated VNs, many people seem to ignore how unique it actually is (and I am not talking merely about the fact that it does not take place in high school). If we include VNs, LNs, WNs, Manga and western literature, I have read over 3000 volumes of literature (though majority of which consist of manga), but I am yet to find a more unique story. Umineko is: Murder mystery Modern Fantasy Commentary on the detective genre And does a lot of other stuff romance, philosophy, breaking the 4th wall etc. Furthermore, it claims to be a kinetic novel (aka no choices) and technically has only 1 relevant choice for the ending, but manages to crush even that, by making player do not a physical, but a mental choice how to treat this story. At the same time it can be both: pure murder mystery without fantasy elements and a pure fantasy story. I could go all day, but I think this much is enough for the explanation.

  31. Well, for starters, that sentence doesn't even make sense because it reads "Mother, am I able to turn on the television?" Second, it's douzo not dozoi.. And third, that's a very formal way to say that. A lot of people aren't going to speak to their parents like that. Here's what the actual lines were in Japanese テレビ付けていい? どうぞ Also for this "What I meant is the they took the original jap text and translate it in such a way that only a typical, say, US family would say and not a Japanese" Japanese families speak Japanese not English, so there is no 'way' that they would say English.

  32. Hmmm, well, let me give you a wild card. Read the fourth chapter of higuarashi, Himatsubushi-hen Lemme explain why, it's a prequel to the other three and it's oddly light-hearted (compared to the rest of the chapters). A quicker read than the other three. Arguably, the lightest horror imaginable with adorable looking characters especially everyone's favorite Rika-chan. It has some slice of life elements until the mystery begins.

  34. Yep, that's Japan alright. A man wears a phallus-shaped hat during Kanamara Matsuri (Festival of the Steel Phallus) on April 1, 2018 in Kawasaki, Japan. The Kanamara Festival is held annually on the first Sunday of April. The penis is the central theme of the festival, focused at the local penis-venerating shrine which was once frequented by prostitutes who came to pray for business prosperity and protection against sexually transmitted diseases. Today the festival has become a popular tourist attraction and is used to raise money for HIV awareness and research.

  35. Umineko is the most worthwhile and interesting VN out of the ones in that list. Followed by Danganronpa 2 (provided you've played the first one, of course). Steins; Gate is great too. I find Grisaia is meh.

  40. for those out of the loop, billy mitchell has been in the spot light for his world record breaking records for donkey kong, the original 1981 arcade game and ms pac-man. including his famous feat of being the first to reach the kill screen in ms pacman, a screen that not even the devs knew about. the man has continued to break records for years at the twin galaxies, an american organized video game record tracking company. back in 2007 there was a documentary called King of Kong that mostly took place in twin galaxies and followed billy mitchel and Steve Weibe as they went head to head for the world record of donkey kong of over 1 million points. Steve came out of nowhere and achieved this feat on both video and in person at twin galaxies and was the first person to ever break a million points. less than a week later, billy mitchel brings in a video he claimed to tape a long time ago that was questionable at best and said that he in fact got over a million points first. twin galaxies took the questionable tape as evidence and declared billy was the first to reach this feat. well now the tables have turned as billy mitchell, years later for continues questionable scores and tapes, twin galaxies has declared that the tapes billy has used were in fact doctored and that his scores would be wiped from twin galaxies record and he is now banned from the establishment. the videos include those of footage from emulators which arent against the rules but billy has stated that hes never used an emulator before, despite all evidence saying otherwise. also audio in his footage that seems to be tampered with. apollo legend has a youtube channel with all the details and was probably one of the head people responsible for calling out another cheater in the video game world record breaking community, todd rogers. rogers achieved a score in dragster, a 1980 game released for the atari, that was found out later to literally be impossible to make. like, there have been people trying and trying and cheating to see if this score is possible and it isnt. the only it could be is if the evidence todd had brought forth was in fact false. todd was later striped of the world record from guiness and twin galaxies and was also banned from tg. todd was also the coach who verified billy mitchells scores for donkey kong and, come on. we know we can take his word for that, right? so there you go. two legends of the gaming industry brought down by their own ego. they couldnt handle been the best at one point and had to go for always being the best.
