  1. Roughly 950 titles now, pretty sure I am done adding all officially published english VNs now, for real this time. If anyone notices anything missing or anything wrong please tell me. Considering the amount I have added there are likely to be some mistakes here and there.

  2. Ebi-hime is one of the very few OELVN developers who managed to establish themselves as reliable and respected creators even among the JP-centric visual novel fans. Having released over 20 titles since 2013, both freeware and commercial, she is probably best-known for her yuri titles, such as Asphyxia and The Sad Story of Emmeline Burns, and memorable horror stories, such as Sweetest Monster and The Way We All Go. Most of her work stands out through uncommon, Western settings, a deep connection to English culture and literature, and artwork that diverge in various ways from generic, anime-style illustrations you can find in most EVNs. Blackberry Honey, ebi-hime’s latest commercial VN, is both a very typical title for her – with its yuri themes, Victorian England setting and interesting stylization – and an unusual one, as it the first project of hers to include explicit sexual content, through an optional 18+ patch. So, how did this venture into the world of eroge turned out for the OELVN scene’s star creator? The game has its share of interesting and surprising moments, but the overall pacing is painfully slow and predictable, even for a romance Blackberry Honey follows the story of Lorina Waugh, a young, poor maid that starts working in a rural residence of Bly, after being sent off in disgrace from her previous job, in unclear circumstances. Being mistreated by some of the older maids in the estate and Lady Constance, the young daughter of the owners, she struggles desperately to hold on to her position, so she can financially support her mother and sisters. After being hurt while performing a pointless chore for Constance, she stumbles upon the Bly’s unusual, foreign-looking parlour maid, Taohua, sparking a relationship that will completely change her life. 4. Here is a list of VNs officially released in english, I will likely not update this list anymore after August 2021 as I don't see much of a point in it anymore with improvements to the search function of vndb. Orange text means confirmed for an official english release while yellow text means that a part has been released but not the entire VN. I have also made a list with the ones with physical release, this list is sorted the same way as this but also has info on where the titles can be bought and if it is available List of physical english releases of VNs MangaGamer (Store) Sekai Project (Homepage)/Denpasoft (Store) JAST USA (Store) NekoNyan (Store) Frontwing (Homepage) Sol Press (Store) Shiravune (Loves DRM, especially Denuvo) Visual Arts Fruitbat Factory (Store) MoeNovel (Burn in hell) Cherry Kiss Games (Homepage) Winged Cloud Degica Aksys Games (Store) XSEED Games (Store) NIS America (Store NA, Store EU) PQube Others (Japanese) Others (not japanese) Himeya Soft (Bankrupt) Hirameki International (Quit the VN market) SakuraGame/Paradise Project (Machine translated, do not buy from them)

  5. Umineko hands down. While it is one of the best known and the most popular translated VNs, many people seem to ignore how unique it actually is (and I am not talking merely about the fact that it does not take place in high school). If we include VNs, LNs, WNs, Manga and western literature, I have read over 3000 volumes of literature (though majority of which consist of manga), but I am yet to find a more unique story. Umineko is: Murder mystery Modern Fantasy Commentary on the detective genre And does a lot of other stuff romance, philosophy, breaking the 4th wall etc. Furthermore, it claims to be a kinetic novel (aka no choices) and technically has only 1 relevant choice for the ending, but manages to crush even that, by making player do not a physical, but a mental choice how to treat this story. At the same time it can be both: pure murder mystery without fantasy elements and a pure fantasy story. I could go all day, but I think this much is enough for the explanation.

  6. Despite the fact that I listed Sanoba Witch as finished in my VNDB list, I actually never finished Nene's route before. I stopped when the consequences of Nene's contract was revealed as, well, I don't like sad and depressing moments in VNs and this seems to be heading in that direction. So I left the route and completed the rest. This was over a year ago. Having read through the trial of Riddle Joker again, I suddenly felt like I had heard Ayase's voice actress before in a previous Yuzusoft game. Turns out that she voiced Nene as well. Becaause of this, I felt like replaying the VN again. Just finished Nene's route. I must say I'm feeling pretty awe-struck. Not only was the route damm well-written imo (gave me the feels), but the route 'twist' was very memorable as well, mainly because I have never experienced something like this before (although I must add, my VN experience is far more green when compared to some of the more esteemed members of fuwanovel). For sure, Sanoba Witch is the most unique VN I had read so far because of Nene's route (I understand saying the VN is unique purely because of 1 route is not very convincing. Doesn't matter. I don't intend for this topic to be serious ) Guys, do share with us your unique VN / VN moments

  7. Done! Most of the old lists are pretty outdated, so this is a nice edition to the VN board. Thanks @bakauchuujin for making the list!

  8. No, I'm not turning into Thatcomicguy and his daily threads. Something serious for once. I know that VNDB tags have their share of problems and open spoilers is the one thing I hate the most, even more when it's something related to the ending of the VN. Like, more than once I saw things like "only good endings", "only bad endings", "unavoidable harem ending" and "parting ending" as unmarked spoilers and with strength 3. And they were literally the first tag I saw in said novels. Not cool. So I wanted to hear some opinions. Should tags like these really not be marked as major spoiler? Sure, a fully visible "unavoidable harem ending" doesn't look like a deal breaker for me, but "only bad endings" is. Even if the VN is the most utsuge-ish thing ever, I want to have that 1% of hope, so don't show me the "only bad endings" tag... And if someone REALLY wants to see the ending tags because they are so sensitive to content, they should go and click the show spoilers to spoil it only for themselves. What you guys think? EDIT: I promised that this is gonna be serious so I'll not comment that both my likes and my posts ends in 69.

  10. My biggest regret with this game is, perhaps, that most plotpoints go nowhere. Spoilers follow.

  11. for me, yes, i keep them... sometimes, i just feel awkward change honorifics like: senpai with senior, or sensei with teacher, or even remove them? i feel like it lose its impact... beside the honorifics, i also keep anything that reader already familiar with, something like: lolicon, ecchi, hentai, or other terms as well, how suppose we translate lolicon in english? p3do is a bit much isnt it?

  12. Unrelated note to topic: Was reading a thread about it in VNDB that it has similarities to Totono, andChronobox. The way Salvato hides the secrets also feels like he copied from FNAF series lol. But yeah, saw some video play-thoughs on it and it's definitely unique ~~

  14. If you don't know japanese and are admitting that you're not an expert at it, then I don't know why you're commenting on its faithfulness. Either way, the language being used in the japanese version is very casual, so equivalently casual language is being used in the translation. The english version of those lines pretty accurately depict the tone in the japanese lines. I would like to know how you think japanese families talk to each other, if not in this kind of casual tone.

    What are you playing?

Just finished It's my own Invention and Looking-glass Insects in Subahibi and quite frankly speaking, they are both screwed up (though not nearly as disturbing as I thought). I have never been so infuriated at the protagonist, especially Takuji who's really quite clearly screwed up in his head (desk scene ahem). Aside from that though, I really like how they connect to each other, with the perspectives of both Takuji in Invention and Zakuro in Insects explaining the cause of In conclusion, now that the worst is behind me, I can now finally look forward to the good stuff.

  16. Hapymaher... the style of the game in itself is extremely unusual, but the story is also pretty unique amongst VNs. Semiramis no Tenbin... I don't think I've ever come across another VN like this one. Nanairo Reincarnation... you'll see it if you play it.

  18. You almost never hear it worded that way, though. The first person usually asks, "Do you care if I do x?", and the second person responds with yes or no, usually with something like "go ahead" or "feel free" attached. You don't respond with, "No, I don't care if you do x," which is indeed rather abrasive. Here in Freedom Land (or at least my part of California), we basically use those two phrases interchangeably. I wouldn't say it's weird to hear either one.

  19. depend on how often/much they say the names, here is an example, i translate a game with english name: Crow, in japanese it says Kurou some char call him Kuro, while other also call him Kurou, like "Kurooooouuuu-kuuuuun...!" with the obvious visible "u", so i keep the long vowel instead...

    Ending tags on VNDB

I'm with you on VNDB and spoilers. It's annoying when one of the first things you see spoils half the VN, if not more. Add to that that it seems that a number of VNDB editors don't care about spoilers. Sometimes I wonder if an editor decided to brag about knowing as many spoilers as possible. This mean you can't comment and none of us can like you or this line won't stay true. I guess I have no choice but to like you as a person instead of liking your posts

  21. I did and this happened (spoiler alert): Nv played CC before so that's not what I meant. What I want to say: see the picture in the top post; that's not a typical jap conversation. Instead, it's what you will usualy find in countries like the US. The entire VN is localised like that, which I'm pretty sure is not faithful to the original jap text at all

  24. This kind of question is always tricky. "Do you mind if I turn on the TV?" "No." Which means "Yes, you can turn on the TV". The issue might be with 'care', which isn't often used like this. The meaning should be the same, more or less, though...

  25. Went with something a bit different this week. Clephas has taken over, throwing the members into arenas even more messed up than before, with all kinds of mysterious dangers lurking around every corner. I redued the number of people in this chapter to four, as I'm on vacation, and felt like spending a bit less time writing this time around. Which is also why the chapter is a day late. Still, hope you enjoyed!
