    What are you playing?

Picked up, or rather finally started Ace Attorney trilogy on my 3DS. Finished the first game, in the middle of Ep1 of the 2nd game, which is atm a shame because i expected Phoenix to start off veteran pro but nooo gotta blank slate him i guess for tutorial purposes? idk how long it will last but pls Pretty fun, I always enjoy doing them active mystery solvings <- hardcore Danganronpa fan Cases did an overall good job of integrating all the characters involved- everyone feels important- and making you care for finding the truth -things get pretty srs- Ema > Maya pls Minor complaint is if you're marathoning the game, 3 investigative days on top of 3 trial days per episode can make things feel tedious. i hear the 2nd game does 2days/2trials so we'll see if i like it or not Enjoyed the 2000s 8bit Gameboy Advance Capcom musics or whatevers, reminded me of Capcom's other Megaman Battle Network BGMs I did use a walkthrough towards the end srryz, mainly for the investigations cuz it's like where the fk do i go next and what the hell do i have to show to the next prick in order to progress >< Miles Edgeworth image was unfortunately ruined because I knew @Mr Poltroon for like 3 years prior now and that's all who i could think whenever Edgey came on screen is friggen' Teegan from Versailles ._.

  2. The question in the title and the one in the post are actually two different things. Regarding the question in the title about the best looking title, this is actually a highly subjective thing. For example, Fata Morgana is regarded by some as a very good looking title because of its unique art style, but its production values are actually quite low. The backgrounds are just blured photographs, its not even voiced and only the main characters have sprites with very little variations. So what title looks best to YOU is hard to answer because it's so subjective. The best advice I can give you is to check out some titles from some of the most popular VN artists: Popular artists with cute moe art: - Kobuichi & Muririn (Yuzusoft) - Moe art with highly dynamic sprites - Nishimata Aoi (Navel) - Very popular moe art - Hatozuki Tsumiki & Mitsuki & Yakuri (Eushully) - High quality fantasy manga art more on the moe-side - Koku (Purple Software) - Good combination of moe and erotic art Popular artists with more mature characters: - Komori Kei (Ricotta) - Very good erotic art with more mature characters - Iizuki Tasuku (Hibiki Works) - Famous for the Lovely & Cation titles. Very good erotic art with more mature characters - Amasaka Takashi & Kaneusu Tato & Kazuma (Clip Craft) - Very good erotic art with more mature characters - G Yuusuke (Light) - Specialized in very stylish chuuni art - Kagami (Lilith) - Infamous artist specialized in erotic fetish art with more mature characters Popular artists with a more realistic art style: - Suigina Miki (Innocent Grey) - Very good mixture of realistic art with manga art and more mature and realistic looking characters - Sei Shoujo (Empress) - Infamous artist specialized in erotic fetish art with more mature and realistic looking characters - M&M (Astronauts: Sirius) - Very good erotic art with more mature and realistic looking characters The question about the production values is somewhat easier to answer since it allows a more objective point of view. In general, titles with high production values usually have the following characteristics: - Lots of event CG's - Lots of character sprites - not only for main characters but also for side characters - Even background actors are drawn (Very rare nowadays, but older titles like Clannad, Shuffle or Ever17 put a lot of effort into those) - All characters voiced, including high profile voice actors - Backgrounds are drawn and not cheaply produced blured photographs - Usage of high profile artists - Usage of special effects like animation - High profile writers and composers Titles with huge art content are hard to realize with just a single artist. For that reason titles with high production values usually have multiple artists, or one artists who gets several years time for it, like Komori Kei with Walkure Romanze or Sei Shoujo with Starless. Background art in particular can also be bought by an external company without having to bother your main artist with it. Since older titles usually have rather old fashioned art styles by todays standards, I'll split the answer in older and newer titles. Amongst older titles, I'd say the highest production values probably had MuvLuv Alternative, followed by Fate/Stay Night and Ever17. If it comes to newer titles, the top contenders are probably Eushully titles, because they also have a fairly high quality J-RPG included. Minori is famous for expensive high quality art but they usually have few characters and I'm not sure if their newer titles stand out as much as their older titles. I personally liked the character designs of their older titles ef, Eden or Supipara more than their newer titles. The Koihime series from BaseSon is also infamous for their high production values because their titles are extremely long with millions of voiced characters. MangaGamer still couldn't afford to bring over any of their newer titles. Innocent Grey titles also have very high production values even if they seem to be a lot cheaper than BaseSon titles. Otherwise MangaGamer wouldn't have been able to afford them - cheaper voice costs I guess. If I should make a personal pick of a title I played with the best combination of high production values and good looking art the it would be probably Kamidori Alchemy Meister from Eushully. The content was just insane and I really like their art style. In my subjective view, there are two companies which have an even better character art style - Ricotta and Clipcraft - but neither of those can deal with the pure mass of content of an Eushully title.

    How are you doing?

If you ask me, studying abroad is overrated. I have seen some people spend a fortune on it without learning anything they couldn't have learned "at home". The issue is that you start by learning the basics, which you can more or less do anywhere. At the end of your university life (particularly if you aim higher than bachelor), your expertise has become so great that you can actually tell the difference between universities. At this point it would make sense to locate a university, which has specialized in something you can't learn "at home".

  7. Fureraba ~Friend to Lover~ Summary Springtime. The season of the cherry blossoms, and a time of new beginnings, new encounters, and new people. For Aoba Kyousuke, this new season marks the start of his second year in high school, and after taking a moment to reflect, and looking at the friends around him... All he can find is a dumbass too horny for his own good, and a weirdo who can't get over his strange fetish for lizard-humanoid creatures. Sure enough he enjoys hanging out with them, and he wouldn't ever think of giving it up, but something feels missing. A precious, valuable part of everyone's adolescence, and something he might just miss out on at this rate... What is that something? Why, love. So upon realizing this, he shouts out to the world-- "I WANT A GIRLFRIEND!" He'll need to give it his all, of course, because he knows that love does not come to those who just wait. Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order There are four heroines. In order to get into the routes proper, you must select the heroine in the choice screen (when available) and then select to talk about topics that interest her. This walkthrough will, among other things, clarify which topics interest a heroine. By selecting the topics within the walkthrough you will always receive a decent amount of affection and you may choose any combination of topics that interests you. Walkthrough Talk topics will be in brackets [] with the relevant questions for any heroine underneath between quotes "". Sometimes these questions will lead to further questions, which will be indicated by -->. Some questions seem to provide more affection, so I'll mark those with (EXTRA). (Will be removed in the final version of the guide) Not all possible questions will be presented, but there are enough that you will be able to move to the next stage. NOTE: For some of the girls, when you have one at stage 4 and another at stage 3 a jealousy short scene will display. Hiiragi Yuzuyu Mochizuki Rina Minahara Himari ??? Bad Ends and Flags Attribution This walkthrough is based on info attained by me, playing the game. Synopsis from NekoNyanSoft's website. [Review] Togainu no Chi

Nitroplus sure is popular and there's always hype surrounding their games. Their imprint Nitro+CHIRAL receives the same treatment by the BL fanbase. And that was one of the reasons that I was afraid to approach their games. Overhype frequently kills anime and manga for me, and I believe that the more a media is popular, the more parroting we see instead of legitimate opinions, I can't even count the times I read reviews that, if you erased all positive adjectives, you ended up with nothing. Even so, I tried to play this game because its plot was genuinely interesting. Too bad it got so easily abandoned halfway through the game. Game's cover is more badass than the game itself Togainu no Chi, Nitro+CHIRAL's debut title released in 2005, tells the story of Akira, a champion in some turf war style game, that got falsely accused of a crime. Japan is in a pretty post apocalyptic state and its society is falling apart so he had almost no hope in ever clearing up the misunderstanding. Except a woman named Emma appears before Akira with a deal to free him. And for that, he have to enter another game, this time a battle royale, named Igura. Accepting the terms, Akira travel to the ruins of Tokyo, where Igura take place. The world building is well done and full of good ideas, that unfortunately falls flat when you reach the character routes. The game takes its time to explain all rules of Igura and show all of the weird quirks the game master added just for fun, just to gives us like two fights and then shift the focus of the plot to something else. Of the five routes, only one actually elaborate a bit more about Igura and that ended up being my favorite route. Of course, they tried to tie the Igura plot with the game's true plot, but the excuse they used still doesn't make Igura actually important for anything. This feeling of disconnection between the beginning and the later parts of the game was so strong that it almost made me want to try the game's trial. Like, the prologue had special portraits for characters that had only one scene worth of appearance (the game have three or so base NPC faces, but these guys are different), three completely useless character had sprites, there's a fighting sequence with some homeless people that acted like wild animals that's never explained or even mentioned again. I do wonder if the game was supposed to be one thing and because some development problems it became something else... Even Akira is sad with how the game turned out... Now for the characters. First we have Akira, the main character, and mostly a silent badass type of guy. Or that's what we expect him to be based on the prologue. For a said champion, he's overpowered way too easily by pretty much any character that cross paths with him. Add the fact that after 90% of said defeats his opponent states how pretty Akira is and how much he wants to rape him (of course, stating too that he doesn't care if he's a guy), and we have one of the most "damsel in distress" MC I ever saw. The thing he said the most in the entire VN is "let go!", seriously (his "hanaseyo!" just played in my mind). Sure, he accomplish some things by himself, but nothing end game tier. He just goes where the plot carries him, over and over again. And to make things worse, his development is tied to the fact that he should warm more to others and not to his uselessness in combat. Among our five heroes we have: Keisuke, the clingy childhood friend; Rin, an energetic shota; Motomi, a laid back older guy; Shiki, the edgelord that goes around killing guys with a katana and vanishing the next second; and Nano, a mysterious guy that says a lot of things that doesn't make much sense. We also have bad endings with Arbitro, a super eccentric guy, and his two bodyguards Gunji and Kiriwar, but they're pretty short and not really plot relevant. With the exception of Shiki, all of the others have some character growth. Personally, I loved Rin's and Motomi's routes, since it developed well not only each character, but also the couple. You can see them growing up and moving on together. Keisuke is your typical childhood friend route, but his route have a twist that's sadly repeated in every single route, making his route completely pointless if you don't care too much about his character. Nano's route had a good start, but guess he was a bit too detached for a medium length game, so his development was way too rushed in the end. Shiki's route is a complete disaster that I'll talk about in the H-scene part of the review, because his route barely had anything else. "No love for an older guy, huh", Motomi thought, remembering how N+C put him out of view in the blowjob part of the h-scene... The h-scenes... sigh. There's eleven scenes in total, and only three aren't rape. And they aren't even dubious consent scenes, it's no consent whatsoever. And most of them are totally gratuitous. There are more routes than consensual h-scenes, so... you know what to expect. I could actually forgive such a ratio if this was some dark and dramatic story. It's not. It's the actually the same annoying BL cliché that plagues a lot of older works: rape turned love. Guy A forces himself on guy B (usually the MC) because "he can't express himself very well". But no worries, because the rapist liked the other guy all along. And the one raped can see beyond the abuse, guy A have other worthy qualities. And then, happy couple ending~ Aaaaw, can I vomit already? I mean, what? How can they even call that romance??? I know the game deals with some dark themes, so the least they could do is treat it with seriousness and not like some "cute" shipping material. Although this description here fits mostly Shiki (except one of his bad endings, that actually depicts some sort of mindbreaking), there's one more character that had a rape scene that came completely out of nowhere, for no real reason and it so happened to be the only h-scene of the route... My headcanon is that one of the "drugs" (drugs are never named in those media, huh?) they use actually turns them into rapists, but who knows the right answer. And when that's not the problem, we have the unnatural dialogue. "But we're both guys!", oh I didn't even noticed, thanks for telling me! "I don't like guys, it's just you!", he's a guy regardless, give up. "I don't care if you're a guy, you have a pretty face!" (actually this particular quote wasn't in a h-scene, but in a rape attempt scene) I thought that was the norm for BL MCs, how is that not gay? The game really goes out of its way to basically say "NO HOMO!" sometimes... There's so many turn off moments that only positive thing I can say about the h-scenes is that Akira's voice actor do an AMAZING job, one of the best h-scenes voice acting I heard. Nano!!! Please don't sleep!!! I swear Shiki's route is almost over!!! The art is nothing really special. The background can get a bit repetitive with so many gray tones, the CGs are good, better than the sprites, the usual stuff. The soundtrack on the other end is pretty good, enhancing various okay moments to something cool. It sets the mood just right, the song that plays in the bonding/emotional scenes in particular had such a lonely vibe, I liked it a lot. And the good ending song is so beautiful I constantly hear it (and I feel obligated to share it). And, because it's an old game, I had to add one more section to this review: technical stuff. It's a known fact that this game have some compatibility problems with windows 8.1 and 10. Back when I played it in windows 8.1, I had to do several "tricks" (compatibility mode with windows XP, put it in high priority in task manager) to unfreeze the game after loading a save file. I had to change the tricks (clicking in specific points in the screen, don't ask why) to play it in windows 10, but after some updates it's now completely unplayable for me. Some people had more luck and said tricks still works, others never had any problem, but are you feeling lucky? Nitro+CHIRAL released a new windows 10 compatible version, but, as you can guess, you can't use the english patch in this version. Another way to play this game is grab the all-ages PS2 version that even added a new route. Even then, I couldn't really bother with reading this again. It's storytelling is so outdated and filled with bad BL stereotypes. But unfortunately there's so few BL translated that this became some sort of mandatory reading.

  14. I'd recommend you to through you your expectations out of a window, it's a good idea to do that every time you start a new VN, or you're risking to be disappointed simply because of these expectations. This happened to me a few times. Also, if you know nothing about Umineko, then go in blind, it's the best way to experience its story. But perhaps you should know that the story becomes way more unique starting with episode 2. Also, don't expect another Higurashi.

  24. Fate/Stay Night I think it is still top notch quality wise the amount of effort put into their sprites alone are still fabulous. The way they are able to expertly choreograph their fights without animation is amazing. Muv Luv Alternative also has some amazing quality put into it especially with the battles and the individual sprites ability to turn their backs to you Aoishiro which I recently finished also has quality through the roof And yeah anything Innocent Grey makes because they completely stand out from the crowd. Their style and artistic direction are impeccable. They make some beautiful shit yo.

ok.. it says here that. 1. you can pick what outfit/hairstyle when you enter separate routes. 2. if you pick the same girl over and over again it's still possible to enter her route even if you make mistakes on the choices. 3. if you can already confess to the girl you chose and yet you still haven't confessed to her you, you will land on a bad end once you meet 6/24 4. there's a jealousy event if you have a girl with lvl 4 affection and another girl with lvl 3 affection. (there's no cg so it's up to you whether you want to trigger that event or not. 5. if you press F12 you can make the girls naked. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (it doesn't work on CG btw) i left out some parts we already know. like once you get enough affection an event will trigger and the affection lvl will rise. and the topic choices will change once the lvl rises. and once you see all 4 events you can chose whether to confess or not.

  40. I know it's a joke, but at one point I actually decided to make a translation project open source. I'm not ashamed and since it's actually an interesting story I will share it. Musumaker was released on the 19th of December 2008 (disc only). On the 25th, somebody on HongFire published extraction tools and a translation started (that was quick). People just uploaded the files as attachments on the forum. I showed up in 2011, downloaded all the scripts and wrote a script to convert them into a format the VN engine could understand. This allowed the text to show up ingame, something nobody had accomplished so far. However it turned out that the project was nearly dead and only one translator was left. Fearing that the translation project would die completely, I ended up putting all the scripts on a git server and made it public. Software development has a tendency to attract people by simply sharing the source code, be an interesting project and be at a visible location. I figured translators could show up in the same way. Well that didn't happen. Some people showed up, but never really accomplished anything useful. I added a script to make a progress report, which would then always be in a specific file on the server. People could then see the progress without asking. In 2015 the focus changed from just keeping the project alive to quality. The whole translation was re-translated to improve quality and a 15% patch was released. This did create some hype, but it didn't turn into new translators. Late 2015 we moved from HongFire to Fuwa because HongFire is not the place to be if you want to translate a VN. Besides HongFire seemed to be past its prime at the time. That didn't help regarding recruiting more translators. Early 2016: merge with Luna Translations and worked moved to Majo Koi Nikki. The target quality for Musumaker suddenly became the same as MKN. May 2016: Musumaker HD remake was released. When I had to move the translation from one engine to another, I decided to start over and use the workflow used in Luna. This required a new file format (partly due to the new engine as well) and as such it made sense to use a new git repository. This time it became closed source. Status today (2.5 years after the 15% patch): more than 50% translated, 1.1% translated during the last week. Quality is higher than ever and around new year 2017-2018 recruits started coming in. In the end I will actually not recommend using open source for a translation. However there is no question that the translation of Musumaker, which has now lasted almost a decade would have been long dead due to inactivity had it not been due to having a public display/proof that it was alive. In fact the translation has done a number of things I would not recommend doing due to high risk of low quality, but in this case it was needed and the end result will not suffer from it.

  41. Luckily it's proving a lot of fun to translate this one so fingers crossed for all of you that I still have plenty of time and it remains this much fun to translate and progress should be good speed compared to previous projects. Kudos to @VirginSmasher for being persistent enough to find the necessary staff to get this project underway. Some experienced people there who have a history of success so it bodes well for this project.

  42. Actually I am able to do the whole translation, however I will NOT work without a translator that is better than me to translate check what I've done. Doing To Heart 2 without a checker was very soul destroying since I simply could not be sure that I got it all right. I'm a decent translator, but not professional quality, and two translators back to back checking over a script has a massive effect on accuracy. Back when I finished To Heart 2, I described my accuracy at the time as 95% literal accuracy, 85% nuance. 85% nuance isn't good enough for this game; it simply has to be over 95%. Even if there was another translator that could do 85% nuance, that would have made a massive difference because every translator has different areas they know well, and two 85% translators back to back ends up with about 98% accuracy. This is the main reason I want another translator. I don't want people reading the final translation and going "well he fucked that kamige up", and this game as you can see increasingly from those who read Japanese that are posting on this thread truly is god tier status. I'm confident in my writing skills which is why I feel up to doing this but I want the final version to be a solid representation of the original work so English writing and editing that looks fine but isn't entirely accurate isn't going to cut it.

  43. The heroine paths in this game are incredibly long and the common routes (there are two of them) are short. This means you spend a lot of time with each individual heroine, which is a huge plus... but it also means that all the character development normally done in the common route gets done in the heroine routes.

  44. I see a pattern in this and it's more general than what it seems at first glance. It's about the classic "you have to think like me". There are plenty of examples of this. It's very clear in politics where you can be called deplorable for just disagreeing on which politician to vote for. There are however lots of examples unrelated to politics. Few examples related to psychology. Introvert vs Extrovert While introverts have a high degree of "other people can do as they like", extroverts have a tendency to expect other people to act extroverted and they announce whenever they think somebody doesn't behave according to "extrovert guidelines". If a person have no interest in being the center of attention at a party or even showing up, that person is declared to be a loser. The same goes for a person with too few friends because apparently having 1000 friends on FB is a goal in itself. Introverts tend to care less for how cloth looks, but wearing something, which was the fashion 10 years ago is so not accepted by some other people. Asperger syndrome This diagnosis is likely to be removed in the next revision of official diagnoses due to being applied to people it was never intended for. However if we look at the core criteria for this diagnosis, it aims towards people (primarily children), which are different. On top of usually being introverts, they don't like crowded places like schools, mainly due to the noise level. They have a tendency to have a major interest, which they like to study, usually alone. This interest can be anything, but is often mechanical in nature (trains is a common interest). They don't mind studying insignificant details for hours and they build up a wast knowledge of the area and you can ask them anything and they usually remember. The problem with this description is that particularly the interest part of it fits most engineers, which has given it the nickname "the engineering disease". Most engineers tend to like studying "insignificant details", like engine parts, software algorithms, math problems etc. All those problems seems to be unimportant to psychologists, which by now has labeled them as deviation from perfection. One example would be Joseph Whitworth. He became obsessed with measuring small distances and in 1840 he achieved being able to measure a millionth of an inch. Just wanting to measure something too small to be seen provides a not insignificant score on the AS scale. He then proceeded to make a standard for screws, which made them interchangeable and it's this thing, which allows you to go to the hardware store and buy screws and bolts and know they fit whatever you need just by reading the numbers on the box. He also started making guns where barrel and bullet fits in size, making them long range and accurate enough to allow aiming in a way we understand as aiming. Somebody else quickly took his method of measuring and applied to it making cylinders and pistons for steam engines. This almost eliminated the problem of leaking steam around the pistons, which made them a lot more fuel efficient. This in turn changed railroads from something in coal field areas to a global thing because now they were beating horses in operation costs even in countries without coal. The importance of Joseph Whitworth is likely not possible to over estimate (but have you even heard of him? I didn't in school). The reason why I bring him up here is because if he had been born today, he would have been labeled as Asperger and put in counseling and possibly medication to make him normal. He would need protection against his own weird ideas. There is no room for being different anymore. Einstein has been labeled with Asperger, though luckily not until long after his death, meaning it didn't cause him any problems. Anime/VN/Japan I see little difference in this. There is some guy, who doesn't understand and doesn't try to understand what he is talking about and then he flames people for having interests, which are different from his interests. That he brings up childish as a psychologist (if he is that) is interesting because according to psychology, there are 3 categories: child, adult, parent and each person consist of something from each. Since only the child is able to have fun, people with little or no score in child aren't able to have fun at all. In order to be happy, it's important to have a non-insignificant score in child while at the same time it should not over shadow the others as that would make the person irresponsible. I wouldn't call it childish to follow orders. In fact it's actually a grown up thing to do. For instance there is a law stating that cars should drive on the right side of the road (or left depending on where you are). A child would go "me first, me not listen" and go everywhere while grown ups will understand that it's part of a greater plan to avoid traffic jams. You become one piece in a giant puzzle and you understand that it is in the interest of everybody including yourself that all pieces match perfectly. Another example would be to obey queues when going through a door. If you want to skip ahead in the queue, you risk ending up in a jam because too many people are in the door at once. The talk about Japan and WW2 makes no sense whatsoever. If true, then explain why what he claims to be a result of losing WW2 was present even more strongly in the 1930s than it is today. I wouldn't put too much into "somebody on the internet" flaming people out of ignorance and intolerance. The people he talks about do exist, but he puts it in way too general terms. Going back to the car example, it would be like saying people drive cars because they want to drive around a block repeatably honking the horn to annoy somebody. It has likely happened in rare cases, but it's not a general trait of car owners.

  45. My father opened my minimised VN that was in the middle of an H-Scene. His non-reaction makes it seem like he didn't even realise what it was. Could be, since he was looking for something else and immediately minimised it once he realised it wasn't what he was looking for.
