  1. Luckily it's proving a lot of fun to translate this one so fingers crossed for all of you that I still have plenty of time and it remains this much fun to translate and progress should be good speed compared to previous projects. Kudos to @VirginSmasher for being persistent enough to find the necessary staff to get this project underway. Some experienced people there who have a history of success so it bodes well for this project.

  2. Kalmia8 released their newest 18+ Otome game: Ohimesama Datte XXX Shitai!!. Apparently their digital or download version will be released a couple day later on April 2nd. The premise is that the MC is a princess from a magical world where they’re much more open about sex and sexuality than we are on Earth and she comes to Japan to find a husband. She’s described as a “carnivorous” woman. Someone actively seeking out sexual contact with them and takes the initiative in the relationships . I really like the heroine. She is very pretty, cheerful, and flirty Official Site

  3. Hey, it's good to see an otome game with a flirty MC for once! ...But I'm not digging the art too much. Yes, the MC is pretty, but the boys seems weird somehow. In Little Miss Lonesome the art wasn't the best and it seems it became somewhat worse in this game I'm not satisfied with the h CGs either, naked girl and clothed guy is so galge, blergh.

  4. I didn't go into this VN expecting much. Judging by the cover (considering I am a bibliophile, you would think I would know better, lol) and the Getchu page, I thought it was going to be a half-nukige along the same lines as the Ren'ai Jijou series (since Otaku was written by the same guy). However, I was surprised at what I got... the first addition to my 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' list since Natsuiro Recipe in mid-2015. As a reference point, I almost never add VNs to the Chicken Soup for the Soul list. The requirements for it are just too strict (low stress, soothing, mildly cathartic, and overall something that leaves you feeling better about the world afterward). So, I generally expect years to go by between each addition to that list. I specifically select these VNs for their restful properties, so the ones on the list are the kind of VN you should consider going to when you feel the need to just take a total rest from the stress of your life. Now, this VN is a kinetic novel, which means there is only one ending and one story. In fact, there are no choices in this game. This isn't a bad thing, from the perspective of a game I'm adding to the list above. To be blunt, choices are a type of stress-factor at times, so it is nice to just be able to read the VN without thinking about choices or looking at a walkthrough. The story focuses on a young scientist named Kyouji (he's in his mid-twenties), who, at the beginning of the story, has just finished his second and third prototype androids. The important thing about these androids is that they have emotions and the ability to learn and think for themselves (in other words, human emulation and autonomous AI decision making). This story is about how the three androids and Kyouji grow together, and it is mostly a gentle story about the family they form together. The oldest android, Nect, is an 'older-sister' type who serves as Kyouji's accountant, assistant, go-between, and secretary. She is good at keeping him from breaking the household finances and keeping him on track to finish whatever work he has taken on at any given time, but she is also very caring and protective about Kyouji and her 'little sisters'. Lux is the second android, designed to be a reliable partner and possess a desire to help others. This quickly turns her into what Kyouji refers to as a ダメ人間製造機 (a woman who reduces men to helplessness through her eager 'help'). She loves nothing more than to do things for others, including her sisters and Kyouji, and she feels the most fulfilled when she is doing her level best to spoil someone rotten. Sphere is the third android, designed specifically to be like a younger family member. She hates being lonely and wants the affection of her family members, and she also has the most effective learning ability, eagerly absorbing information about human relations from movies, anime, manga, and books. Overall, most of the VN is gentle, heartwarming slice of life, with frequent bits mild comedy (mostly running jokes like Roppu's desire to be modified by Kyouji) and occasional h-scenes (yes, they are occasional). I honestly haven't felt this relaxed coming out of a VN in a while, and I liked the ending fairly well. I give this VN high ratings for essentially erasing my stress from the work of the last few days, lol.

  7. Hello again. Today, I have what should be a weekly update in progress. Here is what has been done so far. Translation: Prologue - 20% (350/1791) TLC Prologue - 20% (350/1791) Some pretty good progress here. We're planning on releasing a prologue patch eventually as well, so look forward to that. That's all for this week. See you later.

  8. Two weeks ago I've brought you an interview with Reine Works' Jackie M., where we talked about realities of OELVN publishing and the specificity of women-oriented western VNs. Today, I have an immense pleasure of bringing the spotlight onto one of my favourite western VN creators. Nami is an indie game developer and author of highly appreciated yuri titles, such as Her Tears Were My Light and Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet. If you observe VN contests such as Yuri Game Jam or NaNoRenO, or you read my post about the best YGJ VNs, you should probably be at least somewhat familiar with her work – and if you’re not, I hope reading this short interview will convince you to change that ASAP. Enjoy! ------------------------------------------------------ Plk_Lesiak: Hello and thank you for agreeing to this interview! Many people interested in the OELVN scene might know your Itch.io handle NomnomNami or at least recognize the style you use in your projects, but probably not much more. Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Nami: When I’m not making my own games I’m usually screaming about Disgaea, but most of my time lately goes into working for Lab Zero on their big crowdfunded RPG, Indivisible. Right now my life is work, work, work, so I’m afraid I don't have much interesting stuff to say about it. PL: Usually, developers that try their strength in the visual novel format have a strong connection to otaku culture and borrow various ideas and elements of style from Japanese media. How is it in your case? N: I've been a huge fan of Japanese anime/manga/games since I was like 10, and I’ve loved a lot of games that use a visual novel style format so it seemed really natural to me. I think my subconscious goal is to write things that feel like a Disgaea cutscene - I just really love Disgaea! PL: Disgaea is, above all, a strategy game series. Are there any visual novels that you think influenced your work? Do you read any Japanese or Western VNs nowadays? N: While these aren't pure VNs, I really enjoyed the original Ace Attorney trilogy, Hotel Dusk, and 999. Nowadays I don't play games that often, but I browse Itch.io a lot and try to check out what other people make for NaNoRenO and Yuri Jam! Read the full article at evnchronicles.blogspot.com

  9. This list is entirely devoted to VNs that serve to provide healing, light catharsis, laughs, and warm fuzzy feelings. Understand, most of the games on this list will be moege, charage, or nakige, with almost no exceptions. Some of these, I would not rate highly by my own tastes, but in the eyes of someone seeking this quality, would be awesome. I WILL NOT provide a translated list, as the last time I played a translated VN was more than three years ago, and thus others would be a better judge of what to include in the translated portion of it (hint, hint, Kaguya, Steve, and other Fuwa vets). A great story is generally not a requirement for this type of game, which is why I didn't always give them as high a rating as they would deserve from fans of the genre. Heavy drama (outside of the 'it is definitely going to end happily' type that you get in nakige) is not acceptable. I am going to be very picky for this list, as games that leave you with a bad aftertaste or leave you wondering why you bothered waste people's time, lol. (Hoshimemo would be borderline out of bounds, if you want a clear marker of what not to include. This kind of game has to be almost devoid of violence and meant to heal or soothe) Untranslated: Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no (seriously, this game is my universal recommendation from this type) Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru ~Futari no Elder~ (rare example of sequel far surpassing the original in every aspect) Toppara Zashiki Warashi no Hanashi Sukimazakura to Uso no Machi (yes, this starts out kind of sadly, but its generally light nature and characters definitely make it soothing) Koisuru Natsu no Last Resort (as I said in my comments on this game, it is like a much weaker imitation of Uruwashi no) Clover Days (another recent addition, perfect example of a light charage with no serious drama that isn't solved relatively quickly) Chiisana Kanojo no Serenade (pure moe, stops just short of moeblob, totally light, no really serious drama) Kaminoyu (no human heroines... but this game is enormously soothing and decently funny) Shiro no Pikapika Ohoshi-sama (this was the game that came to mind when I thought of making this list) LoveKami Sakura Bitmap Strawberry Nauts Tenshin Ranman - Lucky or Unlucky!? Natsuiro Recipe AI Love: Koisuru Otome wa Kikai-jikake YES I am being very picky about this list. Not every nakige is soothing/healing for the reader, and not every moege is capable of providing easy laughs and adorable cuteness. The basic reasoning behind all of these choices is: emotional release from sympathy/empathy with the characters and an overall sense of relief of pent-up non-violent stress for the reader. I could have put up to three times this many games up here if I'd been less picky... but then I would have been wasting the readers' time. Have fun, yall.

  10. The game itself is fairly straightforward and likely does not require a Walkthrough, but I am nevertheless documenting my choices as I go. This means that it should take at least a week to be finished. It's really easy to savescum as well, so you can do that if you need to. I plan to have Hiiragi's options all written down by tomorrow. Finally, I might consider reformatting the choice, uh, format, if anyone's got better suggestions. I know I'll change it a bit, just not quite sure how, exactly.

  11. Yeah, exactly. I kind of find it funny how they promote the h-scenes as if they are still marketed towards guys. Are they, I wonder?..

  12. Well, I loved PE but I also didn't like Noble Works and Hatsukoi 1/1. Both VN's don't have a story and the character were imo not really good. I don't know why people say that Noble Works is similar to PE... It isn't! Noble Works is more a comedy VN with no story. I would recommend you to read: - Chrono Clock --> At first I thought that it won't be a good VN but I was wrong with this assumption. I liked Chrono Clock more than PE. There is a nice and heart-warming story with a great romance and it's the first time that the Incest-Route was the best for me. The incest route dosen't focus on the "incest" part actually but it's more about "family". - Grisaia no Kajitsu --> Be aware that the common route is very long! But it's one of the best VN out there in english with an awesome MC. 2 Route's focus on romance (Yumiko and Sacchi), the other have a really good story as far as I know. But if you really like romance then start with Yumiko's route. I loved her route very much and imo I have never read a better romance route. Furthermore I mostly skip the h-scenes because they aren't really romantic but in Yumiko's route it was my first time that I actually read all h-scenes in a route. They were actually very good and cute. Every route in Grisaia no Kajitsu focus on the plot and in Yumiko's route you also have a good romance. Personally, I love storys were the MC does everything to protect his girl. - Dracu-Riot! --> It's from the same company as Noble Works but it's a lot better. The story is average but we have a Story till the end of each route. Furthermore it's funny and I liked the romance. - G-senjou no Maou --> Well, it isn't your average VN. The Plot is really interesting but the romance is a little bit too short.

  18. Ikinari Anta Ni Koishteiru was pretty bad for me https://vndb.org/v5240 I got fooled by the VNDB intro page and hunted down a copy. It turned out to be fake though, at least the heroines were definitely not like that at the beginning, and I dropped the game a short while into it. The dialogue was pretty damm awkward, and the massive amount of verbal abuse 2 of the heroines hurled at the protagonist turned my stomach and make me cringed badly

    Otome game writers

Oh, hey, this is still much better than I've expected. I really imagined the JP VN industry to be a complete sausagefest apart from a female artist now and then breaking the combo. :> I wonder if there's a correlation between those damsel-in-distress protagonists Clephas despises and writing team being male, or the social expectation are so pervasive that even women write such atrocities into existence. ;]
