  1. I went to go take a look at Maitetsu's Steam page, only to find it hasn't actually got one. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the game doesn't wind up releasing on Steam after all. And if it does, it will only be because the game's promotional materials (at least the ones up on the game's site right now) aren't pushing the sexualization angle. They push the slice of life angle, none of the characters are explicitly underage, and the main character isn't a grown man with an explicit avowed interest in little girls. Sure, it might be a lolige. But they're not marketing it as one. Whereas The Key to Home sure seemed to have been designed to be marketed that way from the get go. I checked out their Steam page awhile back. It had a screenshot that was obviously supposed to look an awful lot like a footjob without actually being one. It's just much more open and obvious about it, and guess what? Steam has the right not to sell something if they don't want to. It is their service. They obviously know about the porn games flooding onto Steam. They've chosen to throw up roadblocks (the patches thing) but have continued to allow it. They don't need to do that. Nobody has a right to sell their stuff there. If Valve decides "we're not comfortable allowing this title on Steam", they can do that. I'm fine with them doing it because they're worried about bad press if the story somehow blew up. I'm also fine with them doing it because Valve as a company decided 'this makes our skin crawl, we don't want this on our store'. I would not be fine if Valve said something like "if you publish that game anywhere else, we'll never talk to you again". That would be censorship. Valve deciding it doesn't want to carry Imouto Paradise or Suck my Dick or Die or The Key to Home isn't censorship. No one has a right to be heard using any platform they demand access to. That's not how it works. Other folks have the right not to associate with you, if they don't like you. Steam is not a public utility.

  2. BTW, I think the absolute world's record is Nekopara Vol. 1, with 9-months-old heroines. Non-human ones, but it only makes it slightly less horrible. <please don't ban me>

  4. Every market has scumbags. Believe me my family experienced something similar in the past. The VN market is just smaller so it's easier to spot the shit. I always knew Wingd Cloud was a shitty company, with shitty games but I never expected them to be this fucked up.

  5. Well I don't mean there's anything wrong with the first 1/3 at all - just that the intensity of the last 1/3 is so amazing it's hard to stop watching. Not that you don't know that already. "Let It Out" is one of my all time favourite anime theme songs EVER. I carry it around with me in the car and listen to it regularly (along with Starlight, also by Miho Fukuhara who is a truly amazing singer) but it annoys the heck out of me that the audio in it is clipped; so much so that I bought izotope software specifically to declip these two tracks by her. You're not the only one who likes 2003 better, but that would be the less common opinion. I found FMAB 1000x better than FMA, but to each their own.

  6. Doesn't this kind of go without saying? Sure, SP can put SFW pictures on the steam page from the story, that look harmless enough. But if Valve was to do just a bit of research into the game, they'd find a super long list of loli porn scenes. (The game has a LOT, unlike your normal eroge with a loli heroine, which might have one or two.) If the suggestive poses in The Key to Home is pedobait, then Maitetsu is super pedobait. (I mean, have you seen some of the scenes in Maitetsu?) The story and the H parts of the game are separated, so you can easily put just the SFW parts onto steam and cut out the H, but seeing as the game is technically still tied to a massive roster of loli porn, I'd think Valve would see that as pedobait regardless of the H being removed, simply because it clearly was designed with loli porn in the game originally. I don't disagree with the removal of The Key to Home off Steam at all. In fact, I agree with Nandemonai, I think it makes sense. It does make me wonder what will happen to games like Maitetsu in the future, though, as Valve clearly aren't happy with "pedobait" games. Maitetsu is not your standard eroge that just happens to have a loli heroine. It's loli train simulator 9000. (/ω\)

  7. Kamio Ami- the main heroine of Semiramis no Tenbin. She is hedonistic, brilliant, manipulative, and incapable of trusting others. She is also a surprisingly good person when the situation allows for it, but since most of her life has not been one where the qualities of a 'good person' were beneficial, she rarely shows it. The main reason I like her is because her personality is so out of sync with what we consider the norm... a typical state with me, since I tend to base my interest in a character on idiosyncratic personalities and behavior rather than on impressions. However, even when it comes to impressions... Ami is deliciously scary (and erotic) on a purely human level. Shigure Sora- Devils Devel Concept's protagonist. 99999 out of 100,000 people would run screaming if they met him... anywhere. I've described him in detail elsewhere repeatedly, so I won't go into it, but his personality is a combination of high intelligence, feral desires, and obsession. Driven by whim, instinct, and desire, he should be an easy character grasp, purely based on this... and probably the protagonist most misunderstood by his game's heroines in all of VNs. Elceranto de Anoyance- A female main character from Draculius. If there is a character who, to this day, is the definition of my ultimate immortal heroine, it is her. 'Belche' as she is called, is a five-hundred year old vampire born in Ireland who served as the head maid for the protagonist's father until his unfortunate demise. She arrives at Jun's door shortly before he awakens as a vampire and becomes his mentor, maid, second mother, and overall the person closest to him throughout the VN. Once known as the 'Witch of Kyoukan' (a word for the harshest level of the underworld in Japanese mythology, which has an equivalent in Dante's map of Hell, which is probably what it refers to), she is considered to be one of the most powerful/deadly vampires in existence by the Hunters, becoming more deadly the more enemies she has to face (She would make an excellent Servant, lol). Her base vampiric ability is called 'Dead Copy', which allows her to imperfectly replicate any physical object whose structure she has entered into her memory (greatly expanded since becoming a vampire), up to and including body parts and machines. Tokiwa Itsuka- The protagonist of Houkago no Futekikakusha. I can't spoil this VN by giving a description of what is going on (not knowing what is going is key to a full appreciation of the prologue), but Itsuka isn't really striking in personality, looks, or ability. No, what makes him stand out is his ability to endure. I don't think I've ever seen a character endure as much crap as gets poured on him while remaining sane in a VN... or at least not in the detail in which the writer portrays his inner suffering. For Tokiwa Itsuka, suicide is a betrayal of those who depend on him, and the path lying before him is a horrifically bleak tragedy that is already in its final stages when the story begins.

  8. But They Claim To Have No Knowledge Of This Being Done And Say The Devs Did It, Actually, So Who The Fuck Knows, But Yeah It Was Nutaku Releasing It So We Remain Suspicious That Looks Like Pedo Bait Any Way You Slice It Honestly This Isn't Weird At All Holy Shit --- I mean, the headline would be less snappy if you told the truth. But you wouldn't be spreading misinformation, which is always nice.

  9. To what extent could you map out the VN scene? All the various fandoms, the EVN vs JVN split, translated vs untranslated. Using the VNDB voting stats, I did a little analysis of the VN fandom and came up with some clear clustering. I hope you enjoy it~ https://bunnyadvocate.tumblr.com/post/168412595697/visualising-the-vn-market I'd love to hear any suggestions for other categories to investigate as I'll do a follow up post in a week's time.

  10. ... aside from Japanese, which I assume every one of us here is pretty fond of So I had this idea and thought that could be interesting since from what I can see we are a fairly multicultural community. That should ward off the stereotypes or at least level it out somehow. So, with your consent, let's get started. As a huge language nerd that I am, I cannot for the life of me list all the languages that I happen to like, but let me at least call out some names, soshite, kono forums wa weeb dakara, let's weeb it up a little by providing some animu songs as samples. Arabic: I love its sound to bits. So badass yet so beautiful. The grammar is nothing short of amazing, you've gotta love semitic non-concatenative morphology. Song Slavic languages: particularly Czech, Polish and Russian. A lot of palatalization and sibilants, along with monstrous consonant clusters. They sound elegant, rich and complex but also sweet and cute. Song Song 2 Song 3 Hungarian: I like slavic, and Hungarian phonology, in spite of the fact that it doesn't have any relation to the slavic family (it's finno-ugric) kinda has a similar touch to it. That aside, I'm a big fan of agglutinating languages with vowel harmony. Song Turkish: have I said that I love agglutinating languages with vowel harmony? Besides, Turkish grammar is incredible, probably the most regular language on Earth. Song Chinese (mandarin) : I'll be honest with you, for the most part of my life, I didn't like chinese at all, nor any tonal languages for that matter. However, due to repetitive exposure and interest in its grammar, little by little I grew to like it quite a bit. Nowadays I find chinese to be a fascinating language with a ton of amazing linguistic features. Don't let the basic appearance of its grammar fool you, chinese is a very complex language at heart. Song German: fairly typical right? Everyone loves German these days. I guess it's the trend right now, probably born due to the number of german bands that started to crop up during this century. Not my case anyway. For me German sounds magical and unique. It's my favorite germanic language along with Icelandic. Song Aaaand I'll stop here. There are a lot more languages that I'd like to talk about, like Welsh and celtic languages, Icelandic, Swahili, Hawaiian, Nahuatl... But the list would not end and sadly I can't provide weeb stuff of those Now it's your turn. Let's see what you guys like, it should prove to be fun and interesting. Also, if you are ok with it, I'd be nice to know what languages you already speak, in order to see how this affects your taste. For the record, my native languages are Catalan and Spanish.

  11. Maho Roba is the latest release from Akabei Soft 3, the subsidiary made by conglomerating staff and resources from a number of Akabei Soft 2's other subsidiaries. Now, this game is in a different vein from the games previously released... in the sense that this company has done pretty much everything but a fantasy charage since it was formed. ... I'll be straight with you. My first thought upon finishing this game was that it is exactly like another half-dozen 'average quality' fantasy charage I've played in the past. The protagonist, despite being an adult member of society with an interesting job, somehow ends up working as a volunteer at a girls' magic school. He is a natural magician... who can only use one spell effectively. Moreover, for some reason the role archetype chosen for him in relation to the girls at the dorm is 'lucky sukebe who is the target of constant abuse from the heroines'. I don't think you can get any more cliche than that. Considering how the way the story is set up makes his job and previous experience and maturity irrelevant and constantly reduces him to just another 'sort of perverted protagonist making excuses', I found a lot of reason for irritation throughout this game. The heroines aren't much better... Shizuru is a standard straight-laced tsundere with an inferiority complex toward her more capable older sister (seen this over seventy times), Konatsu is the 'deredere heroine reunited with the protagonist' archetype, Kuon is the childish but brilliant loli who is afraid of strangers (yet another 'classic' archetype), and Teru is your standard 'Love? Can you eat that?' innocent genki heroine... The two heroines unlocked by completing one of those four are a bit more interesting (the ancient principal and the lonely genius magician), but their paths don't really show anything more interesting than those of the previous four heroines. By the time I finished this game, I was so immensely bored with the dull cast of characters and pathetic attempts at humor that I was falling asleep in the middle of my day. About the only thing that was consistently funny was the borderline yandere moments Konatsu showed sometimes (always momentary)... and I felt the protagonist only grew less interesting with time, as he regresses to a hormone-driven teenager during the paths. In short, while this might be a decent choice for someone looking for a really average fantasy charage, it contains every flaw the charage genre tends to inflict on itself in spades, except excessive ichaicha (that was actually decently balanced in most of the paths) and a lack of decent epilogues (though why they went through the trouble to give a solid epilogue to each of these heroines, I have no idea).

    What are you playing?

Finished Mayuri's route in Flowers and I'm pretty disappointed in how abrupt and unfulfilling that ending was it felt rushed and unsatisfactory. I mean don't get me wrong I by and large really enjoyed Flowers but I think the characters deserved a better ending. Looking forward to the next one though

  14. Kazami Yuuji- when i first read the VN he was a type of MC that was very rare, he doesnt make stupid decisions, he is not like "FRIENDSHIP IS EVERYTHING!" etc etc, nowadays more common though. Oh and his quotes are the best The Amane song~! Hinaori Kagome- I really liked her personality, downright arrogant but it was funny, her route was the best too

  22. I just realized that Dustmania Grotesque doesn't have a proper synopsis. Apologies to anyone seeing this on vndb for the first time Also for a proper entry: Seeeki! Bukkake Bokujou! ~Oshiru Ippai, Seirei-tachi o H ni Shiiku!~ Cum on down to the peaceful Bukkake Ranch, a good old farm out of the way from all the commotion and hubbub of the town, a place where you can relax and enjoy a quiet life with your four elementals: the salamander girl, Sara, the slime girl, Myil, the kobold, Korin, and the harpy, Papy. Life is good on the farm. That is, until the Demon Queen shows up your front lawn, demanding you create the legendary Slut’s Stone before she decides to wipe your farm off the map.

  23. Well, as far as I understand, Main Character is supposed to mean Protagonist here, so I'll stick to them. I personally never keep lists of favorite protagonists or favorite heroines. I like some characters, dislike some other ones, and am mostly neutral to all the others. When it comes to protagonists, it's also really important for me that they have unique personalities and aren't meant to be generic self-inserts. Without any meaning to the order, here is a list of some protagonists I liked: Yuuji, Grisaia. Well, I wouldn't call him a really well made character from a critical point of view, but he is one of the rare ones whose thoughts I really liked to follow. And he is pretty cool, I guess. Takeru, Muv Luv series. I don't particularly like him as a person, but I believe that, as a character, he is actually really well made, with all of his motivations having a clear cause and meaning. Another important moment, it's actually scary how much his emotions during Alternative coincided with my own emotions while reading it. Okabe, Steins;Gate. Well, this one is a bit of a fraud on my part, since I only watched the anime and read a few chapters of the VN. But if I actually finished the VN, I would probably put him at #1. Battler, Umineko. I just like this guy. Yuki, Subahibi. It would be pretty cool if she was a protagonist for a full VN, though it wouldn't work in that case.

  24. Haha, that's funny. Because i think that German is one of the ugly-sounding (without any offense ofc) launguages. I can say that, because i've been learning it for a couple years now. Apart from Japanese, there aren't many that i like. I'm a Slav myself, but i really like Russian. And that's about it. Since you also provided some songs, I'm gonna take this chance and share some russian folk music Song

  26. Since a main character doesn't necessarily have to be the protagonist I will say Usami Haru. She is not just one of the romanceable heroines because we see a lot of the story from her perspective and she is essential to the story in ever way. She also outpaces the romantic competition by country mile. Usami is brilliant, beautiful, ruthless and potentially lethal.

  27. Emiya Shirou. I know everyone hates him, and it's probably amazing that his name is coming up at all in a favorite main characters thread, but I really do think he stands out as an interesting protagonist with excellent character exploration. His code of ethics and perseverance makes him all the more respectable to me, and he's pretty frekin hype in UBW and HF. Go easy on me.

  28. As for that matter, I did choose Patch 2 for the patch since it was the least bothersome to apply. Although you need the Japanrse version of Konosora though, and unfortunately Patch 2 was incompatible with Steam version of Konosora. So if you could get the Japanese version there, I would recommend you to just use Patch 2 instead. Have fun in regard of Konosora there. PS - By the way I did try Patch 1 with Konosora Steam version - or to be exact MoeNovel version back when this was released. I didn't like that the CG gallery was messed up because Pulltop did cut the number of image that was showed in the gallery, and as the result we couldn't view all of the unlocked CGs because of the limit.

  29. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipping_(audio) It's a hangover of the "loudness wars" that CDs were made closer and closer to their loudness limits because psychoacoustically things sound better if louder and everyone has their volume control set to the same level. Unfortunately those loudness wars pushed things too far and there is no ability in digital to cope with "too loud" and it ends up creating awful sounding square waves (which are also potentially damaging to speakers). I listen to fairly high quality audio and also like to listen loud so these anomalies sound terrible. If you load up a track into a waveform editor you can see it as the waveform always reaching the top and bottom extents of the graph.

  33. Protag in IMHHW is pretty standard (though he does have a bit of a backstory). Yes, I was talking about Kotori. Her route is soo good (I even teared up, due to how feel good one scene was). The first Grisaia game can almost be considered standalone. If you're going to get the 2nd game, you may as well buy the 3rd game as well (2nd game is a massive teaser for the 3rd game). And speaking of Eden of Grisaia, the +18 version of due out very soon (it's reportedly in testing right now). But yeah, get lots of free time on your hands before you start reading that series xD

  35. If the point of the VN and the developers was to take an stance AGAINST promoting crimes against children they didn't do a very good job and the message doesn't convey AT ALL... Specially not when your main artist draw just loli hentai and the art in the VN itself depict children in very suggestive posses or in places that you would relate to a jav and I'm not just saying that while I look at the cover and one of the girls (they all have between 8 and 11 yo) has like a condom in her mouth, yes, yes I know, it's probably just a healthy food or something that will turn that little girl into a strong woman : D

  37. I don't like conspiracy theories, but it's either just a fairly poorly constructed clarification (language barrier?) or there's something seriously fishy about it. I mean, she doesn't have a contract because she "trusts her boss so much"? After years of working for the same company non-stop? Also, it's the only company in the world that needs talented artists and she wouldn't have money to buy food without it? Like Narcossis said, it really doesn't prove anything. No example of her supposed commission work for other companies, no specifics on her relationship with Winged Cloud. Just "I'm happy, nothing to see here, don't look any further". It doesn't mean that the allegations are true, but they're strong enough to be worried about (and to blacklist Winged Cloud, I've considered buying Sakura Dungeon out of curiousity but definitely won't do it now).
