  1. I think ultimately, us readers won AX , there's just so many choices, something for everyone and its not even the last convention of the year. Pretty content with the announcements.

  2. ANH16

    Starting soon

I'm ANH16 and while I am not reading visual novels yet, when I replace my broken computer I'll start immediately after that. I also enjoy watching anime although few are interesting enough to get me past the first few episodes and I also enjoy building gunpla.

  3. I'm currently playing Ai yori Aoi Umi no Hate, AXL's latest game by their 'unusual slice-of-life' team, and the setting is seriously bothering me. It isn't that the concept is boring... there is nothing wrong with the concept of people living on a massive self-repairing ship hundreds of years after the demise of land-bound culture due to global warming. No, the problem is the concept of the game and how it interacts with the setting. Ok, I can live with the idea that advanced culture was lost - deliberately or otherwise, and I can also live with the characters centering about 80% of their attention on day-to-day affairs. That is normal in a self-sufficient community. However, the idea that recreational culture not existing at all - music being lost entirely, for instance - is ridiculous. Wherever you get a community of humans, you have some kind of recreational culture, whether it is simple sports, drinking contests, tests of strength and stamina, or card games. To put it simply, people might be willing to let go of high tech, but they'll never give up being able to hum a tune while working. It is such a huge hole in the concept that I just had to shake my head in exasperation. This isn't the first time I've run into this kind of thing... for some reason, some writers, when they create a fantasy or sci-fi setting that justifies their story, gloss over elements like this that drive me nuts. Moreover, they ignore human nature and history. Even in a confined environment like the one in this setting, people still need recreation and will create it, regardless of the intervention of authority. The first couple of generations might have successfully abandoned culture as they knew it, but the later generations would have inevitably birthed a new recreational culture of some sort. So, the concept is just too ridiculous, at least in my eyes. Edit: In other words, 'If you are going to create a new setting with a purely human society, you have to justify every difference in a way that makes sense given human history and nature!'

  4. I don't know subahibi and i can't imagine how important a bestiality scene is, but 10-15 lines is actually a lot of lines. So much can be said with those lines, so much can be conveyed if used properly. For example: Thats like 13-15 lines i think. So it depends on the scene in the Vn and what's being said and how its used to invoke particular thoughts and feelings from the reader. All i'm saying is 10-15 lines can mean a lot.

  7. Mangagamer. Damekoi is one of the milestone VNs, we'll finally have a Maruto game in English, and Evenicle is the gameplay eroge I'm most interested in after the Baldr series. Sekai didn't do much outside their newfound yuzusoft obsession (three titles from the same partner in simultaneous translation, that may be the new record), so even though I'm pretty hyped for Nanairo Reincarnation, MG's new announcements still seem a bit more surefire. Frontwing probably decided not to reveal their major cards for now, JAST is dead.

  9. I get why Herkz is salty and it does seem kinda bullshit how they wouldn't allow the old team to continue their work, but he's assuming that no effort is being expended to pick things up where the old team left off, despite having no actual knowledge of what FW is doing. What he's saying is possible, but it still seems like a rather shaky position from which to tell everyone not to buy the game. FW has a good track record for TL quality post-chiruchiru, so I suspect that they wouldn't want to release Subahibi in such a shoddy state.

  11. But this is not a fan translation. This is a product that you paid for. If it was just another poor fan TL, that would at least be something, but this is an official TL. This quality is not okay for an official release.

    VN of the Year 1993

Year 1993 was... strange. Most of praised games of the year were blocked by me due to nukige nature of the games. Those games include Kawarazaki-ke no Ichizoku, Rance 4, Viper series, NOVA, Ayumi-chan Monogatari, Kindan no Ketsuzoku. And a lot of quality representatives that I don't even want to mention here are purest brainless nukige. It really looked to me as if the world got mad after the strict censorship of 1992. The number of VNs that made into my list slightly decreased from 4.08 in 1992 to 3.75 in 1993 due to increased nukige tendency. The notable features of year 1993 included: - Hard disks come as an early substitute for FDD, e.g. Rance 4 was released only for hard disks. - Games featuring 2 or even 3 screen CG scrolling got frequent - Multiple games heavily introduced animation to look like TV anime - Several works included percentage of watched CG and it stimulated pursue of CG rather than developing story - As games increase in volume they start to feel uncomfortable withing Command selection formula. Command selection is generally simplified even further to such extremes as three icons or 2-3 unique variants for each selection, sometimes merging with contemporary ADV system. Let's try and count what masterpiece level games we ended up with in 1993. 1. Bunretsu Shugoshin Twinkle Star 2. Can Can Bunny Extra 3. Cosmology of Kyoto 4. Demon City 5. HHG Heart Heat Girls 6. Kawarazaki-ke no Ichizoku 7. Nova 8. Marine Philt 9. Ooedo Tantei Kamiya Ukyou Vol. 2 10. Prostudent G 11. Rance IV - Kyoudan no Isan - 12. Words Worth 13. Zoku Youjuu Senki -Suna no Mokushiroku- So if we talk about which game had the biggest impact on industry - it would be Can Can Bunny Extra. From this work the Swatty goddess became a meme and the game is the closest thing to a contemporary high quality charage. But I just refuse to give this nampa game the credit of being the best VN of 1993. 3x3 Eyes ~Sanjiyan Henjou~ is a nice gore game just to my taste, but it has lots of shortcomings. Horror games like Marine Philt are one-time games that are only good while playing. Bunretsu Shugoshin Twinkle Star is mostly fun only for first two chapters. Cosmology of Kyoto is a gem, but it's too different from anything else to participate in the general race. Prostudent G is a bakage that I refuse to give credit. Words Worth is a great game, but it would appeal only to a very small percentage of RPG fans. H.H.G.: Heart Heat Girls is an amazing story but it's from a relatively unknown developer Cat's Pro and its production values are greatly lacking. Dark palette, average character design and CG quality just can't be the BEST game of 1993. So why not Demon City? It's quite a borderline game, but so is year 1993. It's from the same Cocktail Soft company that made most acclaimed Can Can Bunny Extra the same year, so it's only fair. Demon City has fantastic production values, very unorthodox setting, cool original protagonist, great shifting story. It's persistent, fun and never boring. It made the biggest impression on me and that's what counts.

  13. Hey all, I just wanted to let everyone know that Princess Evangile W Happiness was officially set to be released on July 28th. For those who haven't noticed this announcement yet, I post here to let you in on the good news. Princess Evangile was one of my all time top three favorite visual novels and since Mangagamer announced back in 2015 that they were translating W Happiness, I was extremely excited and now after waiting two long years or more, we finally have a release date set and I just pre-ordered my copy on Mangagamer! Both all ages and 18+ will be released on the 28th and Mangagamer is charging $35.95 for pre-ordering, which isn't too bad at all. For more information check out this link on Mangagamer. Pre-order your copy now. Too many people are pirating visual novels but when you do that, all the hundreds of hours of work the translators did is for nothing and if they don't get paid for the games, that's less funding they will have for future projects. Mangagamer is rather quick in the translation department as well, compared to some other translators. I expected about two or three years for W Happiness so this is no surprise. I just wanted to relay the good news so the countdown now begins. THERE IS 24 DAYS LEFT UNTIL PRINCESS EVANGILE W HAPPINESS IS RELEASED!!!

  17. Begrudgingly, Sekai- Novectacle's new project is a showstopper for me. There's no new Higurashi info (except Soon(tm)) or Chiru release date, so Mangagamer was underwhelming.

  18. I also recommend reverting back and finishing routes in this order Kasumi>Kei>Marie>Rea It is very important order if you want maximum experience from the game. Or should I say, in order not to ruin that experience. Also, DON'T SKIP ROUTES. Dies Irae is not something like Fate/Stay Night or other similar VNs. You need specific info from other routes or some parts will not make sense. As for heroines, personally I was not a fan of Kasumi or her route, but I am glad I finished it in the way it was recommended. To be perfectly honest, out of 4 main heroines, I liked Marie the most even though she wasn't written that well. Also, for me Rea as heroine dragged down her route, but route itself was EPIC.

  19. Seriously...? Well that sucks. How do we know they won't cut more from the game while they are at it. I know that is really paranoid, but if they already cut one thing, they might have cut more. How do you know they cut something? I couldn't see anything about that on their twitter.
    1 point
  20. No, because no matter how popular herkz is (he's reasonably popular), most buyers will never read fuwanovel, reddit, 4chan, or herkz' tweets directly, and will have no idea about any of this stuff.

    How to extract an H-code

If you want an H-Code for a PPSSPP, you have to find one yourself for every game you want to hook. Here is everything you need to know: http://agth.wikia.com/wiki/Cheat_Engine_AGTH_Tutorial Alternatively, you can use HAT. When using HAT, you don't need an H-Code.

  22. So, basically, herkz didn't do any work on subahibi for a whole year during the license negotiations, even though the possibility of them just straight up buying out the script sounds very likely even to a bystander like me. Way more likely than hiring him to continue the job. And so now he decided to play the usual drama queen right before the release because his work ended up unfinished without even knowing what happened to the script afterwards. I know my words are rude but it sure sounds like the genius herkz alright, would be a pity if the game ends up jinxed as a result.

  23. Well, that's not what I'd expected from Frontwing announcements when I'd heard word 'plenty announcements' earlier, just like Kryt said in regard of JAST. Especially because I prefer them to had announced the secret projects directly instead of keeping it secret. Oh well. Anyway, as for secret projects thing it could subjected to many speculation (Duh) but perhaps it could be Goo's new project seeing that Island was announced at last year AX. The only way to knew is that we must wait for months though, just as Frontwing promised there. As for Wonderful Everyday, finally we got the release date there which is good. As for the content that was cut, to tell the truth I prefer that they cut yaoi scene but no problem here (I'll just need to tolerate it I suppose). Oh, and actually the supposedly disturbing sex contents was quite low though, so it's not like that it matter much imo. Well, I'm going to look forward to August then. PS - By the way, one of the chapter did had the title 'Sunflower' so I think it should be enough warning if you want to play Wonderful Everyday (Subahibi) there, @Vorathiel. PPS - Well, herkz was what I called quite eccentric person just like Moogy so it might be best not to take him seriously imo. Although maybe he was still angry though that Frontwing released Chiru Chiru directly without his knowing (Probably).

  24. Not sure where you've been listening for your ZERO news, because they updated the Kickstarter just in the last couple of weeks. Here's the most recent post with relevant information: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/muvluv/muv-luv-a-pretty-sweet-visual-novel-series/posts/1859716. It does not, for instance, include an actual release date announcement, but at least they think they're close (though I've very recently heard some rumblings that their public messaging has been overly optimistic this whole time and likely still is). At any rate, nobody knows "how long do we wait", but at least they are quite clearly working on it.

  25. What's a ppsspp? I thought you just meant psp but had a stuttering problem, but idk. Either way, I have zero clue on how to even get H-Codes for VNs, so sorry. Just wanted to say I'm very sorry about your stuttering issue, the rest of your post was good, so you must be working hard on it. Good job!

  26. The scenes aren't considered individually, they're considered in relation to the work as a whole. The game itself might, it might not. I'm no lawyer, I just read up on this stuff because it interests me. My point never was that these games are / aren't obscene. The law is incredibly vague on this point anyway, it basically is applied on a case-by-case basis. My point was that if it does go to court, the disclaimers won't really mean a whole lot.

  27. I think this is mostly a question of consideration of audience. There's certainly something to be said for targeting your translation for an audience of non-Japanese speakers who have nonetheless been steeped in Japanese culture, but there's also something to be said for tuning a translation to try to capture a broader audience, hopefully without losing that venerable audience of enthusiasts. This is, I presume, the line that most VN translations try to walk these days: increasing accessibility without sacrificing the accuracy and context that, understandably, the enthusiasts demand. And it's important to understand, with a work of fiction or poetry especially, that the translator's goal is (or at least should be) to give their audience an equivalent experience to what the original author intended for their own audience. Consider page 73, paragraph 2, of this book I came across while looking up some translation theory: IMO, as the translation critics the VN community have become, we have a tendency to get too hung up on extremely small-scale meaning equivalence (i.e., is the joke exactly the same as it was in the original?), and to be too willing to sacrifice the bigger-scale equivalences in experience (i.e., is the joke funny?). The explanation stretches pretty well, too, if you consider "equivalence in experience" as implying that, for instance, a joke should be about roughly the same topic, or a reference should share as many characteristics as possible, like how old the thing being referred to is, what various cross-segments of society think about it, etc.

  28. Oh, no, my dear Majikoi! Why, why JAST? I will never have my sweet time with maids... Better start learning moonrunes, because now I definitely have all the time in the world. Also, FLOWERS -The volume of summer- (Winter 2017), JAST, come on! As for the long-awaited 18+ Maitetsu, I still have a doubt that we'll get the full version without the most controversial content being cut. It's so loli and with Steam coverage, so it could potentially raise some SJW hysteria. But if Sekai would have chosen to make the unofficial patch (like JAST with part of SD), I would forgive them all the sins. Their upcoming lineup is so huge right now, that I'm scared of how many Kickstarters it would take to release everything. Still, it's funny that the only thing I'm really interested in is Damekoi. I like "adult protagonist" tag. Anyway, great AX so far.

  29. Reminder that https://vndb.org/v20433 was also a thing, not to mention this other little game you may have heard of, https://vndb.org/v15538. I don't think they're shy about picking up moenukige.

  30. - Planning: 100% - Writing: 35% - Sprites: 50% - Programming: 50% - Backgrounds: 100% - CG: 20% - Music: 100% (royalty-free, unless an artist is hired) - GUI: 40% (currently looking for artist) Sprite Art, Writing, and Programming: Eirrir CGs: Bana, Ameriya Backgrounds: Bella Hsiao Music: Royalty-free Music (for now?) Any feedback about the demo would be greatly appreciated! The flow of the story and the style of writing are the things I'm most concerned about at this stage of development. Feel free to be brutally honest. For those who have played the demo, 1) Which version did you play? Windows, Linux, or Mac? And did you run into any bugs or glitches? 2) What was your overall impression of the demo? Did you enjoy it? Did it keep your interest? 3) What did you think of the animated backgrounds (i.e. the heat wave effect)? Did it add anything to the experience? Currently, there is an option in "settings" to turn the heat wave on and off. 4) How was my overall writing? Did it flow well? Was there any moment that you felt the dialogue was awkward or stilted? 5) Was there anything that you didn't like about the game or that you want to be changed? Do you have any suggestions for improvement? This question is especially important because I'm still at the stage where tweaking and changing things around is relatively easy. 6) What was your favorite aspect/part of the demo?

  31. Magical Marriage Lunatics Decent fantasy charage, but no better than decent. Typical of Moonstone. The Most Forbidden Love in the World While this game counts as a classic, I can guarantee it is going to cause trouble, considering that it openly states in-game that Mitoko is underage. Nanairo Reincarnation A kamige and a great choice in general... though I'm curious how they plan to deal with the plays on kanji and the uniquely Japanese concepts. Senren * Banka One of the better games from YuzuSoft... Dracu-riot... do I need to say anything more at this point? I posted about it when it first came out, but I don't have the energy to dig that post out of the graveyard right now, lol.

  32. Majikoi, now that's interesting. Will be nice to see an official release of that. Question is: When will they release it? It's a pretty long game, and... JAST. So... 2044? 2045? Anyone want to place some bets with me?
