    My Future

The whole point of the post was to bitch about the people who think anything beyond "this person thinks these VNs are trash" when I say "these are trash" so eeeeh. Recommendation-wise, normally I would go beyond that, because for someone who doesn't know me, saying something is bad doesn't help with anything, so I'll give you that. Still, Eclipsed *probably* heard me talk shit about enough VNs that he knows what I mean when I say something is trash, lol.

    Root Letter

Root Letter Summary "If fate allows it, I wish to one day be able to meet you, Max." Takayuki, 32, is casually cleaning his room when he discovers an ominous letter. The sender? His pen pal Aya Fumino whom he exchanged letters with during his high school days 15 years ago. Filled to the brim with nostalgia and curious as to why Aya would have written such a letter and how it mysteriously appeared, he makes his way to Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, in search of his long lost companion. Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order There are 5 endings: Crossing Paths, Cursed Letter, Princess of Himegamori Forest, A Government Plot, and The Bond of Marriage. A Government Plot and The Bond of Marriage are unlocked upon getting your first ending. I would recommend going Crossing Paths -> Cursed Letter -> Princess of Himegamori Forest -> A Government Plot -> The Bond of Marriage. Route Guideline All of the routes / ends are based on your P.S. replies to Aya's letters at the beginning of each Chapter. Upon getting your first ending, you can use your Smartphone's SKIP function to jump to the beginning of the next Chapter. Sadly, you cannot skip Chapter 8 and have to play through it when trying to get into routes. Crossing Paths Cursed Letter Princess of Himegamori Forest A Government Plot The Bond of Marriage Gallery Unlocks Upon achieving your first playthrough, you'll unlock the Gallery on the main menu, however you will still need to do things to unlock each section. Ironically, there's no actual Gallery / CG compilation. 1. "When you achieve the traveler's goal in each location..." - Unlock Script (can view the entire game's scripts) 2. "If you can make the secret cocktail of Matsue..." - Unlock Guidebook 3. "If you can track down Shimane's vanished mascot..." - Unlock Music 4. "If you clear all of the routes..." - Unlock Mystery Actress (Voice Actor Commentary) Attribution This walkthrough is based on info attained on http://www.playstationtrophies.org/forum/root-letter/298564-quick-trophy-guide.html with some adjustments made by me.

    My Future

This thing pops up in almost every discussion comparing the merits of different works and it always makes me pissed. Of course taste is subjective. Of course this is my opinion, and the purpose of the post was to make that known. Of course no one is wrong by liking any of these works. Jesus christ, it's like people have a hard-on for saying obvious things. It feels almost insulting that someone would think I'm either trolling or that I believe in some objective VN rating thingy because I said something was trash, bad, mediocre, good or great. I just don't care to add "but hey that's just my opinion" to every time I talk about something since people ought to know that already. ...But this is just a giant offtopic rant, lol. Fata Morgana is slow. The whole first chapter didn't capture me, and there was this period when I was starting to read every other chapter where I didn't care about anything that was going on, and it lasted far too long for me. The artsyle is weird. I guess when I got used to that it helped with giving style to the game, but for a large portion of me reading that it was offputting. I like that experimental works like that exist, and I find it a healthy thing and am overall happy it has its fanbase, though I'm not willing to support it and am not part of that fanbase.

Flowers is the only one which isn't trash, asides from I/O, so go for that, lol.

  6. You have literally no basis for this (most likely false) claim, so the rest of the paragraph after it is bunk, founded on a false premise.

  7. JAST has established a pattern of releasing an eroge, then several months later releasing a non-adult version on Steam. They could easily release both versions at the same time, if they wanted to, but they don't. Why? So they can charge eroge fans full-price and give them the satisfaction of playing the game first, then sell a value version of the game on Steam to a larger audience. Furthermore, the free Steam keys to JAST users encourage their fans to give them good reviews on Steam in those very important first few days of sale. As a business strategy, it makes sense. As for the price difference, it's useful to keep in mind that JAST has limited control over its pricing. Every price change has to be negotiated with the original rights holders. Japanese companies expect eroge to be priced higher than non-eroge, and therefore JAST is obligated to price them that way. From that perspective, perhaps JAST acknowledges that allowing users to purchase the cheaper version and add the adult content back in could secure them sales they wouldn't get otherwise. Indeed, if you look at OELVN developers, they operate quite differently. Whenever there's two versions available, I almost ALWAYS see them priced the same, and adult patches tend to be official and free. The cultures are completely different, and in this case I'd say that OELVN developers clearly understand their audience better. The non-adult version modifies some scenes and adds a few bonus missions, including some additional story content that appears to be separate from the main story. It largely looks like gimmick content intended to lure Japanese fans into purchasing both versions (and it's not yet clear whether the low-res CGs from the PSP version will look out of place in the Steam version). That's in contrast to the PS2 version of Aselia, which seems to have added significant content to the game.

  8. This is a great season. While it may not have any 10/10 masterpieces, there are half a dozen shows I'm really enjoying and looking forward to each week. That's one of the best strike rates I can ever remember. Demichan, Youjo senki, Kobayashi-san, Konosuba2, Little witch academia, and half a dozen others that I'm enjoying, a handful of cute tv shorts, and not to forget a new reference for shit anime in Hand Shakers.

  12. Started reading Little Busters last week; finally finished a route today (Komari). So far, the game is a fair bit under my expectations, unfortunately. The common route was quite long and boring—pure slice of life, essentially. I was expecting something similar to Rewrite where they toss in some mysterious developments or otherwise once in a while to spice things up, but that was pretty much absent in LB. While I never expected to like Komari, I had high hopes for a lot of the other characters. So far, though, they don't seem THAT great... Futaki apparently doesn't even have a route in the normal version of the game, which is a big disappointment. (PE translation isn't released yet? I reckon I'll have to read the Japanese version later, then.) Saigusa is... okay, but she also annoys me quite a bit, which I didn't expect. I do like her mischievous nature, though. Kurugaya and Rin exceeded my expectations slightly, and I really like the latter's mix of being an antisocial and blunt tomboy. Nishizono is about how I expected her to be, and has potential for best girl. Not sure what to think of Kud yet, besides that she is cute. The music is good, there are several tracks that I really like already. But all of them are action/cheery tracks, and I don't find most of the melancholic ones to be that good. Hopefully the remaining ones I haven't heard yet are better. Also, it actually feels like there are too many tracks... or rather, the game just throws them at you too quickly. I wish they'd instead introduce them more gradually, and reserve some for specific scenes. Anyway, now to try to get onto Rin's route...

  13. Well, yeah. I'm sorry about my statement earlier here. To be honest, redundant was the first thing that I think when seeing the 18+ patch. But maybe it's not so redundant then if 18+ version price was twice of Steam version there. I want to say more here, but maybe I better save that for later.

  14. Agreed. I don't understand it either Mr Poltroon, I love it and it just keeps getting better. I don't even know why I want Tanya, who's so evil, to triumph as well. Whatever it is, the writing and execution is excellent.

  15. Google Analytics tracks unique visitors. It tells me I've had 47k unique visitors to the Sakura Swim Club installation guide. The numbers I gave before were page views from Blogger. The quotes around "redundant" indicated the tone of my response. The response was in fact a mild gesture of disapproval towards the quoted content. While I'm aware of the release (I was actively tracking the forum thread where it was posted) and I did tweet it to my followers, as well as add it to my censored eroge list and the list of VNDB releases, for various reasons I haven't actively promoted it. JAST is permissive of such patches though so feel free to share them, and I do believe there's other users who will be interested.

  17. So Slowly and slowly, Youjo Senki is becoming a 9/10 anime for me. Interesting evolution for the main protag, also the whole Fullmetal Jacket reference was cool, and i like her battle spirit, she is basically- a mix between Erwin Rommel, Hans Guderian and Adolf Hitler, which is quite cool actually.

  19. The art is a million times better than most OELVNs I have seen, and the fact that you guys have voice actors is really nice. Looks very promising at first glance at least. The only thing that bothers me a little bit is the use of the word "nekos" instead of just "cat girls." It is a little bit weird, seeing as this is an English VN, not a Japanese one.

  23. Watched all available episodes of Youjo Senki. I knew, from the premise, settings and opinions, that I'd like it. What I want someone to tell me is why: Why do I, who loves all that is nice and fluffy, like a show about an extremely egotistical person and gruesome war?

  24. Haven't heard the full soundtrack yet, but so far in Kikokugai, Sworddancer I is my favorite track so far. First time it plays it perfectly sets the mood for the fight scene, and really compliments the in-depth description of the fight itself. Of course, I gotta include Soul for the Sword.

  25. Probably. It'll be, like, in English and stuff! All of a sudden the Japanese original will go, like, poof! Ruined!
