  1. It's been bothering me that Fuwanovel uses HTTP for the main website and all subdomains (including these forums) and immediately downgrades all secure connections to HTTP via a redirect (301). This is concerning because all requests such as logins, sending session cookies etc. are transmitted in plaintext, making it trivial for a man-in-the-middle attack to steal user credentials (and users tend to re-use those on multiple sites even though they should know better) or hijack sessions, they can read all messages and intercept or modify them at will, including sending the user to their own site while making it appear as fuwa (there are also many other good reasons to switch everything to HTTPS , but these are currently the most pressing issues). To prevent this, HTTPS should be enabled everywhere and should be enforced by enabling HSTS to avoid attacks such as those of sslstrip. (ignore the next paragraph if you already how to fix this issue and just haven't come around to do so yet - though at least the first part shouldn't take very long at all and the second isn't too bad either) One possible solution: Since Fuwanovel already uses Cloudflare, you can fix part of the connection very easily: Go to Cloudflare -> Crypto, set SSL to Flexible (should already be that way, really we want Full (strict), but that might involve more steps on your part, see below), and enable HSTS on all subdomains (hard to go back on, but you shouldn't ever want to go back on it anyways), you also might want to redirect everything to HTTPS one way or another. This fixes the issue for the connection between users and Cloudflare, however the connection between Cloudflare and your servers is still insecure, so make sure your web servers support HTTPS (might involve some tweaking of configurations or proxying in the worst case if your web server doesn't support it) and you have a valid certificate set up (certificates from Let's Encrypt are free and easily automatable, don't see a reason not to use them), then set the Cloudflare SSL setting to Full (strict). Now the connections between Cloudflare and your servers are secure as well. (You could optionally set up Authenticated Origin Pulls to make sure you're only responding to traffic coming through Cloudflare.)

    Hi! How's it going?

Hello everyone! Nice to meet you. My name is Kenibatz and I like casual visual novels. One of the VNs I recently played was "The Shadows that Run Alongside Our Car" by Lox Rain. I was very impressed with "Shadows" and it was one of the games that prompted me to learn how to make Visual Novels. I also like the cute VNs made by Nami. Anyway, I'm happy to be here and I hope to get to know more of you. Have a wonderful day!

  4. As in previous years, it's time to embolden our avatars with a Christmas theme in order to combat the secular liberal elite. Unfortunately, I am busier now than before, so while I can offer the below image containing a good sample size of hats, I cannot accommodate requests to place one on your avatars with my madd image strats. But you can still, like, I dunno: look through the previous topics in case you still have the same avatar and I already Santified it. copy&paste your own damn Santa hat. wait for somebody else to, as in previous years, inevitably do the image editing in lieu of me (this is why I voted for Trump you job-stealing immigrants). So here's the shizzle: If you're using MS Paint, ensure that your selected secondary color is the default white, enable transparency with the select tool, and then you can select and drag the hat with a transparent background. If you're using GIMP or Paint.NET or something, then, well, you know what to do you fancypants nerds. Merry whatever

    Out for Jury Duty

It isn't so much idiotic as it is a result of both sides of the case acting for the sake of their constituents. In the case of the prosecutor, they want jurors more likely to go along with their case. In the case of the defense, they want jurors more likely to be sympathetic to their client. In the end, those who walk the center road of opinion are the most likely to remain, since extreme cases on both sides will almost always be excluded if both sides are competent. The system breaks down occasionally - incompetent defense lawyers, prosecutors deliberately choosing jury members likely to be prejudiced against the defendant - but in most cases, things work out fine. Also, considering that they pay you only forty dollars a day for what can sometimes run to nine hour sessions, it makes sense to give jurors an out by acting crazy or prejudiced.

  14. Suguha's story was completed in the FD, so it would be in serious bad taste to bring him back for another round... but who can tell with otaku media? Edit: Understand, I'm fond of historical fantasy... but a large part of Chusingura's impact for me came from the degree to which Suguha's character evolved along the way. Thus, it is in serious bad taste to even consider resurrecting him for a new story, since he's lost most of the immaturity that made his personal side of the story so interesting...

  22. For those who are wondering about jury duty: I got rejected inside ten minutes without an explanation, lol. Moreover, I spent four days reversing my sleep schedule so I wouldn't be groggy and zombified... what a waste of effort. Anyway, I finished playing Shukufuku no Kane last night but didn't have the time to post on it, given how I needed to go to bed eight hours earlier than my usual time. This is the second time I played this game,, and I had to shift the vote upward in response to my somewhat less biased opinion on it. This VN is a high quality charage... it doesn't do anything more than be a high-quality charage, but it is that, at the least. Shukufuku no Kane is an 'ojousama-ge', a type of charage where all the heroines are from wealthy families. Moreover, the protagonist himself is that most unlikely of all things... an average guy who turns out to have been the grandson of a really wealthy old man who wanted him to succeed him. Upon his arrival, he is immediately met by his cousin, Maria, whom he meets for the first time. Maria's first words upon meeting him are that she has no intention of marrying him, in classic soon-to-be tsundere style (seriously, Studio Ryokucha is one of only about two or three companies I've played that can make tsunderes attractive). Anyway, he has a duty to decide who he is going to marry within a year, given to him by his grandfather in exchange for paying off his father's debts (his father being a decent music teacher but being absolutely incompetent at finances). That is the primary motivation for picking one of the heroines in this game. Now, the four heroines in this game are separated into two types... the ones the old man is fine with him marrying from the start and those he rejects out of hand. If you want to experience a classic 'protagonist overcomes the objections of _____ to marry said girl', pick Saya or Urara. If you want a path where you resolve personal and interpersonal issues to reach love, pick Maria or Kanon. I'm going to be blunt... while the characters in this game are excellently developed, the actual paths are decent, and the setting is well-constructed... this VN falls short in the ending department by several degrees. Why do I say this? Because the second the conflict is resolved, you have about ten seconds before the path ends, leaving you wondering what happened to the characters afterward. This is actually several degrees worse than the average charage, since even most of that genre has some kind of aftermath in which you get to see and hear how the characters settled down in the wake of the path's events. It is also the reason why I kept my new vote below an 8 on vndb (8 means 'potential VN of the Month' level). It is possible for the ending of a story to ruin everything that came before, lol.

    Out for Jury Duty

Can't you pretend to be incredibly prejudiced to get out of jury-duty? I've always questioned the validity of a system where the fate of the defendant lies with 12 people who really don't want to be there xD

  25. A'ight, here's my take on it. I'D PREFER IT IF YOU DROPPED THE JAPANESE THINGS Honestly, I think originality and cultural differences explored in VNs can only help to expand the medium. Why set something in Japan (or incorporate Japanese thingmies) when there's a wealth of things to be explored on your home turf? Basically, go for it

    JRPG with romance...

No, it's not. The Working Designs localization is brilliant like every Working Designs product is. And the PSP version of Lunar is a terrible port which disimproved the difficulty of the game in a way that every battle in the game can literally be won be mashing random buttons. The PS1 version of the game is the only version worth playing. Speaking of Working Designs, the Growlanser series is a good choice if you want romance in your JRPGs. The characters even say "I love you" to each other which is something that happens so rarely in JRPGs that you could probably count all games where this happens with your two hands.

  27. I think that it's normal to focus on the girls more (except when you're reading an otome), ahaha. I know that I normally do that, even if I am a girl. I think that the vast majority of male characters, especially in bishoujoge, are really dull. But Michel from Fata Morgana is one of my favorite characters in anything. Contrary to the many eroge protagonists that all feel like copy-pastes of each other, he's incredibly well-fleshed out and unorthodox as a character.
