  1. Okay, so I try to find this out on twitter and all I get are people saying because characters are gay, or its super edgy, or nonsense. I've played half of the first game, and I think its a god awful game with very few redeeming qualities. The characters are one dimensional and predictable, the investigations are bland and dry, the trials are an absolute mess with 30 different types of gameplay mashed together to create some ungodly mess of a classroom trial. The trials are just utter chaos. Poorly done music beat game, shooting random words down, shit all over the screen, its damn near impossible to play and know what the hell was going on. I found myself just mashing buttons until things worked half the time. The fact that so many people like it shows that, clearly, I am the one in the wrong for thinking this is a terrible game/series, so I ask those who like it, sell me on this game. What exactly am I missing? I'm not looking for a response telling me that, "the game just isn't for you." I want to know why people who like it, like it. I've yet to actually see people explain why they like it, aside from the, "OMG THESE TWO ARE SO SHIPPABLE!" type stuff. Posted in this board because I expect this thread to get as messy as the game is.

  2. Hi! I've been lurking this board for quite some time now and I guess it was finally time for me to make a profile account and start introducing myself. I'm a 30 year old (Happily Married) gamer who fell hard for visual novels and dating sims hard during his teen years and that love still burns quite strong to this day (something I'm trying to share with my wife, although she hates the emotional Nakige ones). I remember my first encounter with them was with True love and Season of the Sakura (Dem anime clones!) and I just sort of enjoyed the concept of a game where the object was to be loved and to find love when it was a time when games were reaching new peaks in how violent and edgy they could get. I remember wanting to play the new hotness of Japan which at the time was Sentimental Graffiti and To Heart...two games to this day I still haven't played despite my many years of taking Japanese during my college days. Anyway. My hobbies are all over the place but I'm first and foremost a video gamer. Always have, always will. I am blessed with my job being able to reflect that love and passion, I work at a market and research firm strictly for the video game industry, something which I hope to be able to take advantage on as I always try to be vocal about my support on visual novels of all kinds. When I'm not talking about games or my jobs or visual novels I enjoy movies, going to the beaches of sunny San Diego California, and generally enjoying life with my wife and my adopted son(dog), Zorro. I'm hoping to meet friends here real soon. P.S. I love Majikoi. Momoyo and Benkei are best waifus.

  4. So sad... I would've loved to have the 18+ version on PC. I crave more KonoSora so bad. So bad.

  5. Ain't that the truth. Half the fun of Fate/Zero was in observing Urobutcher try to deal with this pile of black and white morality that he just doesn't do. In the end, half the time she's waaaaay over there dealing with a subplot, and the other half is spent on her being lectured by pretty much the entire cast taking turns.

  6. And then comes her own route, in which she's apparently forgotten how to do the sex for no explicable reason. So weird

  7. Heh, you should see the levels of ridiculousness in the h-scenes in the otherwise superb Ayakashibito. Although, since I'm a horny bastard and the h-scenes in FSN are few and far between it really didn't bother me..... unlike the entire first route of the vn. Saber is RIDICULOUSLY overrated. You should also keep in mind that FSN was the follow up to Tsukihime which featured similar h-scenes, which was a pretty big success. So I doubt they were put into the narrative for the sake of the story, but rather for the sake of sales numbers. Kinda like how today Type-moon refuses to do anything except godawful spin-off projects for FSN.

  11. I don't think the main class trial minigame, the one where you have to shoot "truth bullets" at bad arguments is all that bad. It's not very engaging, but it's serviceable. Some of the other minigames are kinda bad, but it's one of those things where you can overlook the bad qualities of the game in order to appreciate the entertaining insanity it has to offer.

  16. No. It's unironically and genuinely very good for the reasons I laid out. It would only be better if it had a better overarching plot and better characters. "Chaotic" isn't inherently a bad quality.

  17. I just liked the experience of Class Trials, they were pretty hypey and thrilling for me and it was nice to get to watch everything unravel with the backs and forths and asspull twists. Never thought they were overly complicated/messy, and definitely didn't think the gameplay was ever hard/frustrating. Characters are def. one dimensional and the style/atmosphere a hit or miss, most people who end up liking/disliking DR usually find out after Chapter 1, since the rest of the game / series will be pretty much rinse repeat. With more craziness. The game's just not for you :3

  18. The difference is I don't play games for a living. I research them. SO every damn information you could think of that I could quantify and sell as valuable information to publishers and developers I research, record, and put on a report. Although I did QA for awhile (testing for those who don't know) and that alone almost killed me. It was a stupid graveyard shift for a triple AAA game that flopped hard on the PS4. Anyway thanks for everyone's welcome.

  23. I think my main problem actually now that I think about it is how much it goes against Saber's character. Especially the part at the end when Shiro busts in her butt. It is secretly a alternate universe... The need to make another proper F/SN game. If Nasu can use "magical semen transfer" for story purposes he can easily make up some kind of excuse to make another Fate game. That's what I was playing. Thanks, I got a kick out of that picture I think it's going as my profile picture. Lol I guess it kind of make sense if I think about it.

  25. Also, one of the reasons for Nasu's half-hearted efforts when it came to the Saber and Rin sex scenes was the fact that his own setting made it so that sexual contact was one of the most convenient ways of forming a magical connection, unfortunately. The scene that replaces it in the Realta Nua version isn't much better or less awkward, but at least it has the virtue of enthusiasm, hahaha. Sex in VNs rarely makes sense, in any case.

  27. What kind of question is that? We're going to bang his wife, obviously.

  28. There is no such thing as a good Type-moon h-scene. Nasu hated including sex in his games, and this feeling is shared by a lot of chuuni-specialists (also known as 'high-and-mighty-prudes). However, he did so because people didn't buy VNs without h-scenes back then. Even now, only the most established brands can get away with it in Japan... or otomege companies (with the occasional anime/manga to VN convert).

  31. There are two reasons to get away from the raw script files: As everybody mentioned above, you really want to be able to view every version of a line side-by-side. Having the original, TL, edit, and TLC lines all next to each other when you're working is invaluable to me, as an editor. I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this already, but: you're likely to introduce bugs and not notice them until you're playing the game, if you modify raw script files. Accidentally delete a blank line somewhere and you can cause two lines to elide, for example (seen this multiple times already in the raw Kirikiri script I'm working against now...). Every extraneous engine instruction in the script file someone is editing is an opportunity to screw it up. Instead, you should find or make an extractor/restorer to put them into some other format for people to work on. Everybody else is saying "spreadsheet", which is a fine rough idea; you can also do something more sophisticated like JSON, with a tool to allow reading/writing the document in a human-friendly format. I also strongly recommend using git (or any VCS, really, but git is popular, good, and free) to store the files, whatever format you use, since it allows you to: diff any two blocks of work, notably including, for instance, 1) the changes you're about to make visible to everybody else, and 2) the changes somebody else made that you want to double-check easily restore an old version if someone screws something up The downside to git is that it's a real pain for non-technical people to work with, so if you have those, you'll want to create a thorough "getting started" guide for people on your team so you don't have to constantly re-explain the same things. Git will also makes conflict resolution more in-your-face and thus easier to resolve correctly. We use git on MajoKoi and I use the ability to diff random revisions all the time, both my own ones when I'm double-checking before pushing my changes, and other peoples' when I want to see what they're doing.

  38. The best way imo is to have the lines on a spreadsheet (i used google sheets) so you can add the translated lines (as well as the tlc and edited lines) directly next side the original ones instead of directly editing them in the script files. This requires some extra tinkering though which I have no clue how to do but luckily I wasn't the one in charge of this process. If you can't do this then I'm sorry to say there probably isn't a great way to handle the scripts other than just opening them with notepad++ and replacing the lines. I suggest having a copy of the original scripts opened in notepad++ as well so you can have a split view for comparison.
