  1. I only knew it because someone else who knew it got worried my secret project might be Baldr Sky and contacted me. I'm not sure if it was really such a well-known secret (no idea where Moogy learned about it). And I was just as surprised as anyone when SP announced their partnership with Giga (I naturally assumed Aroduc had started working with them at some point). On another note, in my practice, Japanese companies take ages to clarify even on the simplest matters (literally multiple weeks to answer a single yes or no question). It would be pretty funny if Aroduc blew the fuse while SP was simply waiting for Giga to respond.

    Fuwanovel Confessions

Confession 1: Fear me, for I have returned. Confession 2: Messaged a girl I've been talking for months on end now to finally ask her out and she suddenly stopped responding to me. This feeling must be true despair.

I had written a long and interesting (and fairly in-depth) introduction of myself and the studio of indie developers that I founded, but when I tried to post it, I got an error. The site wouldn't let me backtrack to where the text was written and I had not been smart enough to copy it before clicking to submit the topic. So all of that is now lost and I am sad. Too sad to type it all out again. So instead, you will get a short version. I am Eiliya, of Eternals Developing. We are a small studio who focus mainly on producing erotic games. I am 32 years old, currently studying game planning and development in Tokyo and I have a fairly long history with visual novels that start with the early Rance games from Alicesoft, back in the early 1990s. I have played too many games for me to keep track of them, but some of the big titles include Fate Stay Night and Tsukihime, Higurashi and Umineko, the Muv-Luv series, almost all games from Alicesoft, Eushully and Softhouse Chara, as well as all the nostalgic games from the Asenheim Project. That's it for now, nice to meet you all and hope to get a splendid experience here in the community. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either here in the thread or in a private message and I will do my best to get back to you. If you have any questions regarding Eternals Developing and the projects we are working on, I would ask that you visit the thread I plan to make in the original VN section of the forum in the near future. Thank you for your time, and have a good day. //Eiliya

^ Anyways, I prefer mosiacs. As for the reason, honestly I have no idea. I just like it more than some half assed drawing of a schlong I guess. On that note, I wish companies like Mangagamer would make a "restore mosiacs" option for uncensored games. That way everybody gets what they want.

  8. Almost done with Princess Evangile. So much absolute stupidity in that one, I can't even. It makes Harukoi look like a literary masterpiece. Also, the bad ending is such a shameless "fuck you" to the reader, I'm frankly impressed. Go ahead, click on the spoiler tag, it's not spoiling anything whatsoever.

  9. KnS2's ending problems got nuttin' on Remember11's disgrace of an ending ~~ You'll get some 15 hours of enjoyable mystery-suspense-dread in exchange for an hour of an incomplete/cliffhanger ending that only answers the tip of the iceberg of questions, do it ~~ I was supposed to read FataMorgana next, but frankly I need a break from reading all of these abstract scenarios and am itching for something more... normal. ish. with dem fictional modern day jp town / high skoo settings. Don't worry, I finished Fate/Stay & Ever17 two years after saying I would, the same rule will apply to Morgana. Hopefully. What? Flowers? All girls high skoo Innocent Grey with fem protag? That's too hypey. I'm going with ef - a fairy tale of the two, cuz akaritan's reading it

  10. I'm Eiliya, the founding member of Eternals Developing, a small studio of indie developers that mainly focuses on erotic games (we do have other projects in the air as well, but I will refrain from mentioning them here). Since one of our games is fairly close to reaching the point where we can release a demo, our programmer suggested that we start trying to spread the word of our game. Fuwanovel was among the sites that he suggested, so here I am. Let me introduce the game. Hellscape - The Scelus Empire is what I like to call a patchwork game. It's intended to feature aspects from various types of games, such as the narration system of visual novels, the turn-based combat of old-school rpgs and the city building/governing of many simulation games, mixed in what I hope will be a fun and engaging experience for any player. The main focus of the game is obviously going to be the story told and when the game starts, only the visual novel narration and the rpg system will be available to the player but as the story moves on and future episodes are released, new features will be added to the previous version. Warning: From here on is the details of the game. While there will be no actual such images on display, the game is erotic in nature. If this bothers you, this read is not for you. Also, if you do not really care for what the game is about and only wishes to know what you can do to help, there are links at the bottom of the post. Story: You play as Taranoir, a demigod that once ruled over Hellscape, the mightiest empire in the Abyss. Due to the goddess that created you having been captured by enemy dieties, you have now lost your divine powers and the mighty empire is crumbling into chaos. In order to survive, you escape to the mundane world with the intention of gathering enough followers and worshippers to elevate yourself into goodhood, thus regaining the power you need to rescue your divine parent and retake your lost homeland. And what is the best way to go about doing this? Conquring the world, of course! Seeing as how walls of text are usually frowned upon by the community, I put the biggest chunk of text into a spoiler. It contains details about the various systems we plan on using, so if you are interested, please do read it. For those of you who want something that is a bit less heavy to handle, here's a video demo of the first few minutes of the game (note that only the visual novel aspect of the game is being shown): Since I do not know if I am allowed to post links to crowdfunders, I'll refrain from doing so. If you are interested in helping me out, drop me a private message and we can solve the issue in private. Thank you a lot for having taken the time to read thus far. It means a lot to us.

    VN perspective?

Honestly, the true answer really depends on the story and the way it is told- even more so the latter than the former, seeing as retelling the story from a different perspective can change the entire feeling and theme of the story- and since I hate the average moege I have no definitive or sufficiently broad answer for you, I'm afraid. There are some VNs that propose original approaches to the issue though: Infinity VNs, I second- namely Ever17 and Remember11 deal with the concept in an incredibly entertaining and mindfuck way and they're in my top five for that. Same goes for 999 and Virtue's Last Reward. The House In Fata Morgana has you part full and part limited omniscient as well as first person bits, it really jumps around with it and makes absolutely incredible use of that- VNOTY. Umineko is similar in that it has many different perspectives, and it really helps that the broad cast of characters means you can see a ton of character interaction that could simply not be reasonably spun and revolved around a single protagonist- a great strength especially in a VN with a large cast as large as Umineko. As for the "blank, self-insert protag" as opposed to "protagonist with personality", I'd say having a protagonist with a personality of its own is far superior. I do sympathize more with self-insert protagonists since the common archetype is similar to me, and it creates better engagement, but it crucially harms the story: The self-insert story gouges a hole in itself to accommodate the reader. Feeling like an outside observer to a story with a far better and fleshed out centerpiece is something I personally find far more enjoyable. However, that doesn't mean one should enjoy feeling like they are incredibly different from the protagonist and their personality- the challenge of the writer is to create such a protagonist that their troubles, emotions and thoughts line up as harmoniously as possible with the reader(s), that the reader learns the same lessons as the protagonist, that the reader and protagonist live the same life, dance to the same tune- enjoy days of serenity and happiness, worry at negative plot developments, and never forget the deepest losses and the brightest smiles. That is not to say that creating a protagonist at odds with the targeted reader's morality/expectations is a bad thing at all, though. Saya no Uta pretty much does that, for example: A jaded, selfish and evil outlook at the world that, I presume, didn't exactly resonate with most readers. However, SnU would not be the same without it- sometimes, it suffices to be able to comprehend and/or infer the personality, thoughts and motives of the protagonist- however, the closer to the reader a protagonist is without losing their own identity, the easier it is to create emotional engagement.

Go read the Infinity series, they love to tackle your very question in their plot, do it!! In general I consider myself observer. Never insert myself as protagonist, even for the blank slate ones.

I voted for JAST, MangaGamer's style but personally have nothing against amateur work, those can be just fine too ... The question was "Do you prefer" so I answered according to that but if it were to be like for example "Decensored CG - must or must not", I'd say "not a big deal, I'd accept any".

  16. I actually thought the same but when I saw the pictures on the artist's spots, I thought in myself - no need for pictures on Fuwanovel for these xD ... I have read the entire post, I think he made several repeats of himself (in the parts where he speaks about how much of what was completed) but overall it did give enough info to make me interested a little bit ... Though it needs a little bit of formatting here and there, overall it looks fine to me (I am used to reading posts like these on the net all the time but I agree many will just skip it if's a very long post without pictures like this) ... I don't think that there are many people on Fuwanovel that are interested in these kind of VNs (maybe I am wrong?) but since it is a VN with gameplay elements I think it can become preety fun, who knows, maybe it becomes popular like Sunrider and some other VNs of that sort ... I'll be honest and say that I actually like the art, that picture at the beginning of the post looks uninteresting but the actual artist's pages look awesome, not Japanese style of awesome, but awesome nontheless, they do have solid artists, as for the writing, I will try reading it later, I see the scenarist has some previous work on his blog so I am quite interested to see what he has to offer ... I'd just like to ask @Eternals-Eiliya what engine are they using for this VN? I see it has dungeon crawler elements which I am personally not against (I kind of liked Raidy series) but other mentioned things like city management can be preety boring to me, but if it's done well, who knows, maybe it becomes a classic one day XD ... Also, I'd like to know where do they plan to publish this game? It looks like Nutaku or MangaGamer material to me ...

    Gin'iro, Haruka Part 2: Yuzuki

I'm going to be blunt... I can only take Tone Works games in small doses (one path at a time), so I'll be setting Gin'iro Haruka aside now, though I am interested in two of the remaining three heroines (despite Hinata's horrible VA). Yuzuki's path actually starts out fairly similar to how you would imagine the classic 'imouto' path would if it was done by Tone Works... the slow growth into full sibling-hood, the slipping into habits that go a bit too far for teenaged siblings, then the realization of love... and that's the first part. I'll be honest when I say that I fell asleep on three occasions during this path. It wasn't so much a problem with the path itself as the simple fact that I went into slice-of-life overload after a while. Bethly's path alone had enough slice-of-life and heart-warming 'lovers being lovers' scenes to fill out an entire charage. When I added Yuzuki's on top of that, I just shut down after a while and couldn't go any farther. As such, Yuzuki's path was an experience in suffering for me, despite its quality. From this, I have to recommend that Tone Works games are done in pieces, paced out over the course of several months to retain your sanity. As it is, I know I won't be able to go back to this any time in the next thirty days. Edit: It is a lot like the feeling I get after finishing an entire medium-sized bag of M&Ms (which I don't do anymore, for obvious reasons)... that sense of utter exhaustion combined with blood rushing to my head and my eyelids growing heavy, lol. Edit2: To further clarify my thoughts about this path, all Tone Works paths follow a similar pattern, in my experience... the 'youthful years' making up the first arc, with semi-adult and adult years making up the second half. In most charage, you cut out when they are just starting to get into their dreams, but in a Tone Works game, you get to see them fulfill their dreams, step by step, with at least some of their travails portrayed as a spice to the sweetness. In Bethly's path, the best part would probably be the college years or possibly the time after, which makes it kind of a striking contrast to the average young romance you see in most VNs, where you stop while they are still in their teens, save for maybe a small cameo of them as an adult. Yuzuki's path follows a similar pattern, where the semi-child to late teen romance is trumped by the time they are together as an adult. Edit3: I decided to play something violent and gory, as devoid of slice-of-life as possible, for a day until I have the wherewithal to continue. I don't intend to bother with Momiji's path, regardless, though. Her character might grow on me in time, but it didn't during the common route. As a side-note, one of the things I've noticed is that they go out of the way to portray how the girls' lives change by getting into a relationship with Yukito, giving his participation in their lives a relevance that isn't always present in other VNS.

    What are you playing?

I recently finished Inganock and loved it. It has what is probably the most engaging world I've ever seen in a VN, and the storyline is a fairly complex one that requires you to pay attention to fully understand. Really nice art, too. The characters were good, I suppose. I didn't love most of them (apart from Gii, who's an absolutely fantastic protagonist), but they had their charm. The ending was cathartic and even pulled on a few heartstrings, which isn't something I say often. I think it could have benefited from more tracks, but it doesn't necessarily need them. Repetitive though they may have gotten towards the end, some of them were so good that I didn't really mind. I especially loved "Right Hand from Behind" which only made a bunch of really awesome fight scenes that much cooler. I felt that the pacing started to slog towards the last few chapters, but aside from that, it's probably one of the best VNs I've ever read. Sona-nyl is a day 1 purchase for me now and I can't wait for its release. I started ef* a fairy tale of the two. Quick first impressions: really good hook. The first scene had a certain mood to it, which was amplified by a lack of music. Music is really important to VNs, but I feel that sometimes silence can be just as powerful in setting a tone. Since then, the tracks that I've heard have been overall good, but I can't say that they're anything to write home about. Yuuko is cute, but I honestly find Miyako and Kei to be a bit off-putting as heroines. I can't say I'm too fond of characters that feel like they'd be annoying or hard to keep up with in real life, haha. And the other main thing that hit me was the abundance of CGs. I honestly feel like I've spent more time looking at CGs than sprites so far, which is really impressive as a whole. The VN has a cinematic feel to it. I just sort of wish the male cast's faces didn't look so strange; they clash really badly with the rest of the VN. As a whole, it seems pretty good so far. I hear that Remember11 is really good and on one hand, I think I'd probably enjoy it, but on the other, a bad ending is a huuuuuuge turn-off. I'm not sure I could deal with that, especially after getting hooked, haha.

  23. It's probably having the same issue that chaos;child was having, you will need to wait until someone modifies the .exe of the game so you can hook it. Machine translation is only one of the function that VNR has, it doesnt necessarily mean that you don't know Japanese, and even if you are proficient with Japanese there are still some kanji that you might don't know so using a text hooker and the parsing the text is always a good idea for anyone reading vns.

  26. As this thread, which should properly be titled "Making Shit Up", continues, since we now have some factual inaccuracy to go along with our baseless theorizing, I'm just jumping in here to correct the former. As you can see from their wikipedia page if you take the trouble to count, Sekai Project has published 64 games: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sekai_Project#Published_games As you can see from their Kickstarter created page, Sekai Project has created 12 Kickstarters, of which 11 were for games, not all of which are included in the above tally of 64 games because one failed and some are not completed yet, and two of which (WEE and Grisaia) are counted twice in the above since they subsumed multiple releases: https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/sekaiproject/created Carry on making shit up, but please do try to restrain yourself to wild hypotheses about companies' and people's motives and their NDA-covered contractual obligations, rather than about easily verifiable matters of fact.

  27. It is. There is no inherent ability on Fuwanovel that allows users to childishly hide posts from the community merely because they don't wish to hear it. In fact there is no 'neg' ability on Fuwanovel whatsoever, and therefore nothing to dissuade you from speaking your mind (as long as it adheres to the rules.) Ergo, better.
