    What are you playing?

I would say Konosora is better. Shame about the translation though. Once the retranslation is done I would recommend it to anyone.

  2. Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear (and I hope this doesn't sound rude), but nobody from Frontwing posted anything on 4chan. I have no idea who made the /v/ thread (the OP of which was a screencap of a tweet from someone else who did an article about us asking on Facebook and Reddit), but it absolutely wasn't anyone here. We didn't even make the thread on Reddit, I just posted in the weekly questions thread and then sanahtlig was kind enough to create a dedicated thread for us (on their own recognizance). Just want to set the facts straight, mostly because I don't want it to look like we're being overly aggressive in promotion or anything like that.

  3. Because when you have one of the best endings ever, the true end basically feels like the obligatory thing you add because people wants their shitty happy ending, and even so, they wanted a true happy ending? give us more contents, not a fucking ending credit and a useless scene at the end.

  4. Finished Da Capo 2. A major Leap, compared to the the first DC. Except Koko's route, EVERYTHING is better : the cast (a special mention to the side characters...Suginami, Akane or even Wataru are great), the story (Sakura's epilogue "erased" some bad elements from the first DC) and ABOVE ALL, the core of the VN, its system, its structure (the two major branches, the three parts, the logic...). Anzu : A great character (very funny) with a satisfactory route (I expected more...mischief but It's still interesting). Koko : HORRIBLE : The girl, her route, the protagonist's behaviour. Minatsu : A remake of a certain nice route in DC ? Maybe. Anyway, It was surprisingly heartwarming. I really loved the evolution of the character. To my mind, It's the best route in DC2. Nanaka : A good clone of Kotori. Probably slightly better than the original one. And I enjoyed how she took the initiative with this incurable donkan idiot Yoshiyuki Yume : A bit too similar to Nemu. But her route is better. It's not great (too long to start) but, this time, it's more than readable and It's not frustrating Otome : the second best girl : she's cute, proactive, responsible. Indeed, unlike her little sister, she took action when she had to...And the incest element didn't bother me this time *** Girl ranking : Anzu > Otome > Nanaka > Minatsu > Yume >>>> Koko Route Ranking : Minatsu > Nanaka > Otome = Anzu > Yume >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Koko Rating : 7,5 or 7,75

    Hello~

I've been a fan of VNs forever, since 2002, when I played my first, Kanon. Ever since then I have been hooked and I have played many VNs. I have an ok (was much better) understanding of Japanese, so I have played a couple in the native language (especially as there was not really any translated VNs back in the day). I feel that I am a bit of an odd fan as I love Otome games, H games and other VNs. I'm a girl first so I can't help but love otoge most but I still have plenty of other favorite VNs. My absolute favorite is Umineko no naku koro ni (all 6), I just love the writing and the music, so beautiful. My second fav is Hakuouki, just showing that I really love otoge as well. As for my favorite H-game I would say Saya no Uta, I love super weird games. I'm an artist as well and I draw H and non H of various games, basically anything that strikes my fancy. I'm a girl as well as fairly old (31) but still young at heart. I'm a big collector and buy lots of VNs from the very beginning to help the community, it looks like it has really paid off. I play multi-platform, on the PC, PS(Vita and Port), and mobile. I'm really looking for some friends to talk VNs with, since none of my real life friends do. Nice to meet everyone~

    Seisai no Resonance

Like I said in my previous blog post, I have been wanting to keep my blog more active for a while, and this time I'll be talking about yatagarasu's yurige, Seisai no Resonance. Before we get into it, I have to admit, I skipped a few routes in this one in order to get the true ending. (Nagi's true end.) It's not that the other girls in the game are bad, but more that Nagi was such an interesting character, her normal ending was not enough to satisfy me, so I HAD to skip to the true ending. (For a very annoying reason, you HAVE to complete at least another route, (possibly all of them?) after Nagi's before you can get Nagi's true ending, as Nagi's true end serves as the whole game's true route.) I ended up grabbing a 100% save file, so I could jump into her true route. Because of that, this post will primarily be talking about the common route, Nagi's route and the true ending. To quickly sum up the setting and start of the story. Kanae, our main character, travels to Otofuse Island to look for her mother, who vanished seven years ago. Otofuse is a small island closed off from the main land, where a strange ritual takes place every year. The reason for this ritual is, long ago, a big fireball fell down on the island, and a pair of shrine maidens were the ones who calmed down and sealed away the flames. Ever since that that, a yearly ritual is held, where two shrine maidens are picked to preform a similar sealing ritual like back then. The shrine maidens on the island now wield strange "gems" that grants them special powers. (More on this later.) Kanae takes a ferry to the island, but before she reaches Otofuse, a strange girl from a "shady" organization running the island, the shourai-kai, attacks her and she falls into the sea. Washed up ashore, Kanae is rescued by the beautiful and mysterious Mirai, who tells Kanae she has to become a shrine maiden in order to see her mother again. After a bit of a struggle, Kanae enrolls at Sakihana all-girls school, and aims to become a shrine maiden in order to see her mother. Gameplay This game has a rather interesting battle system, which is used for boss battles, training matches and so on in the game. (So, often when Kanae gets in a fight, you end up battling.) I personally found the gameplay very fun, but totally out of place. Because of how rarely you actually end up fighting, and how little the result of the battle matters, it almost just served as an obstacle between the story segments, which I did not enjoy. Like I said at first, the gameplay itself was actually pretty fun and well made, but it just... felt totally uncesessary. (At the end, I honestly just found myself annoyed at the fact that these battles were interrupting the story.) The combat is quite similar to fighting games like the Naruto PS3 games etc. You can move in a 360 angle, use different powers to fight your opponent, drain your "spirit(?)" as you preform special attacks and so on. Overall, although the gameplay started off as fun and was well made, I really didn't feel like it had a place in the game at all. Story As Kanae tries to become a powerful shrine maiden, so that she can be selected for the yearly ritual and see her mother, you learn more and more about what is actually going on in Otofuse. Why is the shourai-kai trying to kill Kanae? Why must Kanae become a shrine maiden in order to see her mother, and what happened to her mother seven years ago? What are the strange beings living in the forest outside the school grounds? I found the story very good, which was really cool for a yuri title, which often focuses primarily on the romance, not the story segments. Towards the end, I was glued to the screen, wondering what would happen next, and the way the game was paced was quite nice in my opinion. Some people have complained about the writing of the story, but I found it absolutely fine. It was entertaining from start to finish. Now, moving on from the common route, I will only be able to talk about the Nagi route and the true ending, but honestly, you should play this game just for that. (Short version, it was great.) Nagi and Kanae This is without a doubt one of my favorite yuri romances, ever. Kanae is goofy and funny, sociable and a little bit overly friendly with most people she meets. Nagi on the other hand, is a retracted, cold and cunning girl. (She is very intelligent when it comes to most things, but she isn't very good at social situations, unlike Kanae, and she is a bit of a tsundere under her closed off shell. Strange, but great mix.) At first, she uses Kanae for her own benefit, which is searching for an answer to a question she has had for a while. (Basically, what is actually going on? Nagi doesn't believe that the ritual and the shourai-kai is what it seems to be, and wants to dig deeper in order to find the truth.) Kanae wants to find her mother, and the two start working together. From there on out, one of the greatest yuri romances I have read unfolds. (And plot too, but pffft, who cares about that. ) The two of them are literal opposites, Kanae with her warmth and her flames, and Nagi with her cold attitude and her ice. (Going back to the powers I mentioned earlier, the true image of their soul is reflected in the shrine maiden's powers, which is summoned from a special stone they all have. (Kanae recieved hers as a gift from her mother years ago.) So, for the closed off Nagi, we have ice. And for the warm and loving Kanae, it's fire. As Kanae learns more about Nagi, she decides that she wants to be the one to "melt Nagi's ice," which is honestly one of my favorite quotes ever, and the two of them just fit so perfectly together in the game, as they are literal opposites. The pacing in Nagi's route is absolutely perfect, and the romance is slowly but surely introduced, so not rushed at all. There is also a fairly small amount of H-scenes, 2 for Nagi if I remember correctly, both of which happen at just the right time, which made the relationship between the two seem all the more real to me. (It's not like Koiken Otome, where you are showered in H-scenes fairly early on.) The fact that Nagi is the true heroine in the game is so, so right. She is a really great character, and her paired up with Kanae makes for a fantastic couple. One thing that did dissapoint me a little with the game was Nagi's normal ending, which in all honesty, is a "bad" ending, not a "normal"/"good" one. (It's very bittersweet.) The fact that you HAVE to play through the rest in order to unlock the true ending makes the time between the real Nagi ending and the "bad" one too great, and if you are going to play the game, I honestly recommend getting a 100% save file, so you can do the true ending in all it's glory right after Nagi's normal end. The rest of the cast and a conclusion The rest of the cast in Seisai no Resonance is great, with a few rather standard template characters like Yuu and Mako, but even they are quite interesting, and although I didn't play their routes, I very much enjoyed what I saw of them in the common route and Nagi's route+ the true end. My favorite character besides Nagi and Kanae has to be Yayako, Nagi's only friend before Kanae. She is such a hilarious character, and I will definitely be playing her route at some point. (And yes, that is a cat on her head.) Overall, Seisai no Resonance is a really great yurige with an interesting plot, well written romance and an interesting cast. The gameplay, although well made, serves more as a distraction from the story, and could in all honesty have been removed. But, despite that, I really enjoyed the game, and would strongly recommend it to all yuri fans. (The game's opening, for those interested)

  10. I don't really understand why people give the true end so much shit. Clannad was never meant to be realistic from the start. It's true that the ending contradicts the message that AS had been building up, but if all those lessons about the power of family and moving on from your loss genuinely had an impact on you, you wouldn't just forget all of that because of an inconsistent ending. I think the point of the happy ending was to make people remember the rest of AS in a more positive light, and personally, I was so emotionally swept along by AS that the ending only made me cry harder out of sheer relief.

  15. You should be a bit careful with this statement. According to StGB 184a you can end up in prison for up to three years if you're distributing porn containing violence. And according to the juristic interpretation in Wikipedia, this includes fictional content: It's allowed to 'own' it however in contrast to child porn which is defined in StGB 184b. But 184b shouldn't affect eroge much because of its manga art since it explicitly restricts it to 'real' or 'realistic looking' media. The BPjM also doesn't just have a list of harmful media for young people (< 18) in list 'A', it also has a list of prohibted media in list 'B' which isn't allowed to be distributed by the criminal code for everyone. You can find some more information about that here. Naturally, it's a grey area with a lot of room for interpretation and Germany is certainly one of the more liberal countries if it comes to eroge, but throwing out a statement that all fiction is legal in Germany is clearly wrong.

    Hello everyone

Hi again! Thank you all for your kind and warm welcome! I feel appreciated already I'm excited even for Sona-Nyl, Sorcery Jokers, Hapymaher and Himawari! Well, practically almost everything that Mangagamer is localizing lol. Yeah, my vndb is mostly filled with a lot of highly praised VNs as of now, because they were recommended everywhere and I thought to start with the "best", even though I'm still missing certain novels like Chaos;Head, Ever17, I/O, or Sharin no Kuni that I'm really interested into.

  22. That's a fair answer, since I also said that Konosora would be one of my favorite VNs - if it weren't for that translation - in the past. I would probably also recommend the retranslated version universally. Unless you're dealing with one of those people who can't get into glider talk at all. I've actually seen a lot of people here complaining about glider talk lol.

  23. You almost perfectly aligned with my opinions on Da Capo 2. I only differ in liking DC 1's Kotori more than anything in Da Capo 2, but not by much. If I would have to order it, I would go Kotori > Everything in Da Capo 2 except for Koko > Da Capo 1 > Koko In terms of best girl/best route, I 100% agree: Anzu is bae and the fucking synth Minatsu got the best route. I am content to see how much D.C.P.C might change my opinion of Da Capo 1 in the future. You forgot to mention how Touko is best girl and should be worshipped like a goddess. Honestly, I had a lot of fun with Koiken Otome, simply because I expected it to be a lot worse than it actually was. And the art is really good, I consider that a saving grace gold star for effort. (Tateha has come a long way in 10 years, in which he - coincidentally - also worked on Da Capo 2). I did make a "not-so-bold" statement with the Dracu-Riot comparison, since I think a lot of people would agree with me there. (General Question at everyone) Is there anything out there that fights with Dracu-Riot as the best translated moege other than, maybe Hoshimemo and Bernd und das Rätsel um Unteralterbach ?

I'll admit I tend to be a bit more forgiving, particularly with initial offerings (as best I can tell this is one of the first works the developer put out, if not the first). Could be I try to find the good in what I'm playing and if it's there I'll sometimes let it overcome some of the bad, hence the 3 rating. I really do dig the sprite artist's work and some of the voices were really good. I like the concept, but their approach fell flat. The combat was painfully boring, waiting forever for some rocks to fly at me got pretty old after one time. And paying for your teammate to use a skill was really dumb. I mean, I doubt Navy SEALS or Green Berets or any professional military organization makes you pay for a strafing run or tactical advice (they may grumble that you owe them a couple beers, though) so that part really irked me a bit. Like, "Well, sorry protagonist, you couldn't pay for the strafing run so I'm gonna leave you to die at the hands of a Rubik's Cube." I mean, even if you just got one free activation of a skill would have made more sense. But that not losing stats for sleeping? Seriously. Loved that. I really hate sims that penalize you for sleeping, especially since they all force you to sleep every night anyway.

Nice review @Valmore, I agree with most of what you said but personally I didn't like this VN-RPG hybrid at all, I am not against "choose your waifu simulation", but this game literally killed it for me ... My major gripe with this game wasn't the voices or the setting or the art ... My major gripe with it was the boring RPG and battle system (and as you said, preety uninteresting "aliens") ... I played it for 3 hours and ditched it alltogether, at first I thought about completing at least one girl route but I decided against it, too much boring, I might have done it if it weren't for such a boring system in place, and I might be wrong but I remember that sometime ago I played a similiar "choose your waifu" simulation but it was far better than this game, it wasn't boring like this ... I could tolerate the voices, even the Cornelia's but I couldn't tolerate preety boring love points system and how you earned reputation with the girls by being a simple errand boy, I waited to see if something interesting is going to happen but no, even when you unlock the city, it's still boring, and the game doesn't even mention on which days you can't date the girls (I losed some "love points" because I didn't know that on some days you simply have no control over the character, that's when I unlocked the city, I losed the points because I took the so-called "quests" and didn't finish them on time) ... The combat system was preety much boring, and that "pay the girl" system got me laughing hard when I found out, preety retarded in my opinion, I am personally not against introducing gameplay elements to VNs but when they are bad like in this game, I'd rather prefer it if they stayed only in the VN genre xD ...This game isn't Rance and it isn't Aseila, I preety much hate it when they mix VNs with bad RPG elements or they implement it in the wrong way ... Oh, and what's up with those high numbers O_O I was confused why did they pick up such big numbers for items like for example "10000000" or "5000000", why all the zeroes for God's Sake O_O They could have just said "10" rocks or whatever the value ... All in all, preety boring game, I rate it 2/10 ... And preety much agree with @littleshogunon his statement.

Interesting review there, since you mentioned that you like Yumi's voice here. About Just Desert, for most part I agree with you here, especially about Cornelia very stiff voice here (I suspect that the voice actress might be Indonesian people who using English name at the credit. Just my speculation here). For the gameplay, while feeding girl will certainly remind you of Huniepop, I would like to think that this game was adapted Harvest Moon system here for the dating system (Love point, love stage, gift, and farming if you recall usual MMORPG term of money grind) for most part here (Actually more of Rune Factory though because of the quests and the combat here). Oh, and yeah once again money was the most important resource in this game, either to buy gifts and equipment or activated special skill. About money, I would suggest that you better sell the drop from the alien because some drop could give you large sum of money. For more rambling about gameplay here, I think Cornelia was the hardest one to fill the love meter because her quests line was involving combat random enemy and random drop whic honestly could be quite hassle to fulfill and more if you consider RNG here. Although the hardest ending to achieve here would be harem ending though, if only because you need to fill all 5 heroines with 2,500 love points in 30 days, which was quite hard if you didn't know to manipulate RNG for quest (Save Scumming) or cheating. If you managed to fill the girls with 2,500 love points, they'll unlocked 2nd skill which range from game breaking (Cornelia, 25,000 damage to all enemy with cost 1,000,000), useful (Cecile which repair armor ie sort of extra HP and Yumi which recover 3,500 HP to MC), not too bad (Eve, 750 damage per turn for 3 turns) and useless (Jennifer, only increasing chance of escape) against final boss. Speaking about final boss, lame form (Not as lame as cubic though. This time we got giant eye) and name (The name was BOSS) aside it was quite good battle if only could force you to fighting strategically (ie think of when you either should be attacking or repair armor (Or to recover HP) because the boss's ultimate attack could inflict around 2,500 to 3,800 damage iirc to MC. My tips for preparing final battle here would be prepare around 1,000,000 or 1,500,000 to be safe (Or if you unlock Cornelia 2nd skill 3,000,000) if possible and bring as many as dispel grenade (To dispel shield, and that was my name by the way) because final boss shielding itself for 4 turns should be the last thing you want here, although some grenade that reduced enemy speed and some medicine would be helpful to prepare. Of course you should had the weapon with highest damage output and some armor too for preparation, and if your weapon run out of use, using Cecile first skill to recover weapon usage (Cost 25,000). I think that's all for my rambling here and about the ending, there was definitely full of refrence about Indonesia (This is VN from Indonesia of couse duh).

  32. Quote from Australian law National Classification Code (link https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2013C00006 ). Note the section that says "appears to be". This means even young looking adults of any age, even if they're beyond their teens can't be depicted. If they want to be bastardy about it, pretty much all Eroge falls into this category since 2D artwork tends to make all characters look young and most Eroge is set in high school which is underage in Australia. Refused classification are Publications that: (a) describe, depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified; or (b) describe or depict in a way that is likely to cause offence to a reasonable adult, a person who is, or appears to be, a child under 18 (whether the person is engaged in sexual activity or not); or (c) promote, incite or instruct in matters of crime or violence

  37. But did MangaGamer actually use that angle to pitch it? Did they try to emphasize the wackiness and submit the game to the sorts of places likely to pan the game and generate attention? MangaGamer doesn't have professional marketers on staff, unlike Nutaku. Last I checked they were struggling to implement well-established conventional marketing tactics, much less try bold new-age meme tactics which could be hit-or-miss. Companies like to blame the market when sales are poor: "the demand wasn't there". I've seen it over and over again. They don't like to admit that their own marketing failures could be to blame. I've seen quality games do poorly and poor games do well. Some of it is luck, but many of the factors are manipulable or at least influenceable. LewdGamer is absolutely convinced they can make a mediocre game that can do better than more deserving titles simply because they understand their audience and how to market to them. I believe them. Effective marketing is much more important than the quality of the product you're selling. Nutaku wouldn't be where it is otherwise.
