  1. Disregarding that overused meme, welcome this is something like a project I'll be doing. I'll be honest: I'm somewhat of a spastic avatar changer and editor, so I thought what would be better than enhancing my skills as an editor than with taking requests and making them for you. This way both me and you will gain something from this. "But Mr. Meogii made this kind of thread already" I know, but this has nothing to do with him. I'm doing this because I want to, and you can join this if you so desire. And Meogii's thread is somewhat dead now, and he himself might be as well. Anyways, here are some things I've made on Fuwa. My avatars: Note that I have made ~30 profile pictures, but these are from Fuwa My personal signatures: Commissions I've made: Be it signature pictures or avatar pictures, I most likely can make it, as long as you give me some points to work with. So, request away, I'll be looking forward on reading them. Just rember to mention when you get your signature/avatar pic to avoid any bigger hassles

  2. Ok! Chapter 7 is finally finished and uploaded! Also, I have a new name for chapter 8, which I will be starting on as soon as possible! "Chapter 8, a broken world." The link to the chapters is here (remember, you can download the PDF straight of the site if you dont want to read it in the awkward net viewer.) We have now passed 40k words and with afterwords etc its 120 pages at the moment! Thanks for reading, stay tuned for the last chapter, coming soon!

  4. I'm open about my VN playing in high school of all places. I get called a pedophile, a freak, a sick fuck, and other nicknames, but I'm not embarrassed of my hobby. If people can't handle being called a pedophile or a rapist by some ignorant pricks, they can stay that way. Sure, it's mostly the opposite party's fault, but you should accept that you're gonna be called these things right from when you start playing VNs.

  5. I dont like being put in the same category as those Steam all-ages loving weeaboo pleebs who know nothing about a great visual novel and just writing reviews filled with dank memes to get funny/positive marks and comments. So yeah, like OriginalRun, I consider these motherfuckers lower than dirt and they give visual novels a bad name for their attitude towards our favorite Japanese entertainment medium.

  6. I don't think they're necessarily being dishonest about it, though? Like, of course it's about the money, they're businesses who wish to make as much money off their trade as they can. I don't think they ever said anything to the contrary. But I also don't really understands how this contradicts the other claims people make. These games sell better on Steam than off Steam, and this means that there's a large market there for these Japanese VNs that was previously untapped, and they represent a way to expand the medium and to encourage more Japanese companies to consider localization. This goes hand in hand with the money thing. Also, This is a very bad attitude to have about this kind of thing. Do you really think there aren't a lot of people who could fall in love with VNs who don't already know about them? That there's no room for expansion? The fact that these Japanese VNs have done so well on Steam has kind of already proven this wrong. You're kind of claiming that the people on Steam don't love these games, or don't appreciate them on the same level that you do, and that somehow makes them less worthy customers, or something? I don't see this as being the case at all. I think your attitude only leads to stagnation.

  8. Hmmm ... okay. Moege are moe games, moe games are mostly about the ‘cutesy’ factor, being ‘cute’ is a form of ‘beauty’, ‘beauty’ as we all know is only skin deep, the thickness of skin is not very much at all which means it’s obviously shallow, when you dive into a shallow pool you are (in effect) giving yourself an uppercut, and so everyone who buys moege like Princess Evangile are (in effect) giving themselves an uppercut. And who wants to do that? So obviously, and more importantly objectively, Gahkthun is better.

  9. Regarding Spanish TLs, I have no sympathy for guys who willingly get exploited then turn around and complain (and strike) because they got exploited. If you want to be that stupid, that's your problem. They weren't harmed in any way, and I hope they learned a valuable lesson. Regarding Steam being a waste of time, the fact it provides many, many times more sales than localisers used to get pre-Steam means it most definitely isn't a waste of time. Even with the 'discouragement', even with the 'stupid assholes' (which Steam is well-known for and thus are usually ignored) pre-Steam titles were struggling to reach 2,000 copies and now they can easily break 5 figures. Because of this basic fact, because there wasn't enough people in the eroge community willing to actually buy the damn games, you will have to live with Steam because that community does buy games in large numbers. Don't imply the Visual Novel community in the West know about great visual novels, at least not with a straight face. When you have quality games like Gahkthun, Cartagra, KnS, KnS2, all struggling to sell, and shit like 'Boob Wars' and the like selling mountains of copies then obviously it's not just the Steam crowd who don't know a great visual novel when they see one ...

  10. I like high-quality pixel art much more than your usual VN art (as really 90% of art in VNs are just generic moe CG). But high-quality pixel arti is so rare nowadays... Ace Attorney is not really good. This is examples of pixel art I mean (and it is fan-made, btw. guy just draw in his free time and I not even sure if he is a professional artist):

Here's the links to both themes we actually implemented for the beta site: http://beta.fuwanovel.net/?theme=oldschool-cool (Classic) http://beta.fuwanovel.net/?theme=summer-sky (New, fancy, pretty, reboot-y [hehe, butts]) Please note that nothing apart from the index page has actually been created. Also note that they're responsive (resize your browser window / open the site on a mobile browser and you'll see!), so there's a lot of work that went into this.

  16. I agree in part. I shouldn't have said anything because it's not even really an idea yet, just a gestation of an idea, but I'd like to start an outreach program at some point where I and perhaps other members of fuwanovel help educate the steam users on VNs, and share with them resources like walkthroughs. Treating them like unwashed masses who don't deserve the time of day is the wrong approach.

  18. Exactly. These Steam only fags are ruining the name of a really good medium that gets unfairly overlooked by a lot of people. The people who have only played the Sakura series and Nekopara and think they're amazing because of the fanservice. Don't these morons know you can get fanservice as well as a great story? Where the fanservice goes further than simple bikini and panty shots? Their laziness must be american level if they can't figure that out.

  19. These two are most likely the reasons for it, in order to be profitable with a much lower number of sales the price has to be higher though it sometimes results in less sales exactly because of the high price..some people would rather not pay as much for a vn as they would for any AAA title out there or close to it anyways

  20. i honestly cant remember all the vns i played this year. the only two that pop into my mind that left an impression were "Princess Evangile" and "Bishoujo Mangekyou -Wasurenagusa to Eien no Shoujo-" i might go with the latter since it was more memorable than PE.

    Fire Emblem Fates

Fire Emblem Fates Since a Fire Emblem Awakening thread was created when the game released, I figured why not make a Fates thread as well. This is my first Fire Emblem game, ever. I played a little bit of Awakening on a friends 3DS but I don't count that. The version I chose was Birthright and I started the game off on Hard/Classic, then quickly realized I majorly blow at this game and restarted on Normal/Classic. As of now I am two and a half hours in game and it quickly has gripped me. The story so far feels a bit cliche, but none the less I find it very intriguing. To be honest, I don't play too many JRPG's or RPG's in general and the amount of things for me to think about right off the bat was overwhelming. I know there is a partner/marriage options in these games so that alone got me thinking about every move and choice to get the right waifu. On top of that I have had to soft-reset the game a multitude of times due to units dying. Right now I just want to play and learn more and more about Fates, looking into the future to see what stats and decisions would best suit me is something I typically do, and that sometimes even hinders my progress. All in all I am very much looking forward to my play-through of Birthright, depending on how much I enjoyed it, I may even go out and buy Conquest down the road.

    Fire Emblem Fates

I recently picked up a retail version of Birthright, and planning to get Conquest DL for half price off. I was too late to get the special edition ; ; and it was sold out everywhere. Even all the standard editions were sold out at all the gamestops around my area, but I was able to pick one up from walmart. I started with a female character in Birthright~ and planning to play as male character in Conquest. It's too bad I won't be able to date other female characters with my main in BR, so hopefully there's some interesting/cool males! I haven't really played much yet, but so far it's extremely easy xD. I've always played with permadeath in all past fire emblem games, but this time~ I'm being lazy, just wanting to enjoy the characters/story so I set my difficulty at Normal/(no permadeath). Since I mostly just started, I don't really have any particular favorite characters yet. To me, the story started off a bit strangely being thrust into the choice of choosing sides so suddenly (when you haven't really connected with either yet) but hey~ I'm fine with it. I'm looking forward to seeing more of what the game has to offer. I do wish they had retained the Japanese voices though, darn. Some of the english dubbing sounds weird, like, I kind of laughed at the sound the main's mother made when she acted surprised..lol.

  34. Yup, sparing Royji is the only requirement, so you are good to go. The final month is pretty impressive, and small things like new background music makes it all the better. You're probably going to have trouble Maxing both Mitsuru's and Aigis's S.Link, so I suggest focusing on Aigis's. Not only is it pretty good S.Link on it's own, it's also really worth do it for variety of reasons and especially on first playthrough. I agree with Shinji being pretty cool, but Jumpei is da man of Persona 3. His and Chidori's storyline is just great, and he really elevates himself out of the "annoying and slightly incompetent sidekick"-status, unlike certain someone in Persona 4.

  35. Well, no, them being that expensive in Japan doesn't suddenly make the Steam prices cheap. VN prices are still very high in the west. This conversation reminds me of wargaming in the 2000s. I'm not saying the wargaming and VN scenes are directly analogous, but it's interesting food for thought. Sites like Shrapnel Games and Matrix Games were the sole publishers of PC wargames. The audience was considered super niche, and they got by selling their humble indie projects for $60+ a piece to the thousand or so people who bought them. Then a few like the Dominions devs tried to break the trend. They thought to sell their games for a cheaper price on Steam. Turns out, their games were capable of pulling in WAY more customers than they ever imagined. By lowering their prices and opening the door to a wider audience, their sales multiplied over ten times and they started making a lot more money. The same thing happened with Spiderweb Software's RPGs. Niche "hardcore" PC RPGs with crude artwork, like the kinds Spiderweb made, were thought to have a very limited audience. Jeff Vogel, the president, always ardently supported the philosophy behind his games' high price points. But one day he decided to do an experiment, and bundle a few of his older games together at a very cheap price point, and it was a huge success. Again, this niche was much bigger than anyone imagined. He ended up being swayed completely and started preaching the opposite, that many niches are niches simply because the people behind them refuse to open the doors to outsiders. I think VNs on Steam are proving this again. It is very evident that one of the primary concerns of Steam customers is price. Practically all of the most successful VNs on the platform are inexpensive. If Sakura Spirit was twice as long and cost twice as much, offering the same value proposition, I guarantee you that it would have sold a fraction of what it did. Some companies get it. Gaokao is a chinese VN (poorly) translated to english and sold for $10, and is a VN/Dating Sim hybrid of surprising length, and has sold tens of thousands of copies. I'm not sure what all of this means. I do think VNs could actually benefit from lower price points across the board. But can I prove this? Hardly. I'm not saying that everyone should start selling their 60 hour epic stories for $10, but I think there's evidence to support that VNs may be overcosted.

  36. Oh you.... Imagine if nobody pirated VNs. Bet VNs woulds would be cheaper than gas. Well, investing on VNs is not a hobby for jobless/poor people unfortunately. You will need a job if you want to get a nice shelf of them or being able to buy several dozen of them a year.

  37. Just read most of the blogs/artcles on the recent big VN, Kindred Spirits on the Roof. Most of them are stooping to Kotaku retard-level because all they see is "sex game on Steam" when the game itself has a decent story and romance.

  39. Currently on 1/1. First off: I love the change in atmosphere. Okay, now in general, despite enjoying SOMETHING in this game immensely, I'll have to say that Iwatodai, in no shape or form, lives up to Inaba. This might be because of the 2D (can't really check that out and I can't see Atlus releasing a definitive P3 on Vita or myself getting a PS2/PS3 or climbing 200 floors of Tartarus again in at least the next 3-4 years so I can't really make a comparison), or it might be because of the overall different vibe of the game, but I just don't feel as connected to Iwatodai as I did in Inaba. I think the cast lives up to Persona 4 Golden (especially Golden because MARIE IS GREAT!). However, I think that the character INTERACTIONS aren't as good. This can, in part, be attributed to thematic difference since AFAIK the Persona 3 cast was designed more to be people that wouldn't really hang out together outside of SEES. That doesn't mean that character interaction is any less rare though. What IS there is P4 caliber, however. I like how the S. Links feel closer to being "people from different walks of life". P4G felt more like "S. Links with people the story involves you with" whereas there's a TON of Links in P3P I encountered that are completely their own thing (Maiko, the bookseller couple, fucking TANAKA, Rio...). I liked that! One flaw it has is that despite involving more S. Links in the story (Shinjiro and Ryoji have some influence AFAIK, I suppose Aegis might as well), those S. Links have to be incredibly rushed in terms of availablity(took out Shinjiro literally every time I could after I realized his SL was open, got to Rank 7 before... y'know. Ryoji's is even worse though I did manage to get all of his ranks somehow (you literally can't miss ANY, IIRC). And the story. Oh god, the story. Despite being paced quite abysmally especially in the first 2/3 (full moon to full moon with practically nothing in between) of the story, with the introduction of Strega it picked up fucking beautifully. It's still badly paced, but after 40 hours of gameplay seeing Junpei get redeemed so much, Shinjiro becoming my favorite male character ever in fiction in his S. Links (his romance path is 10/10, best S. Link I've seen), and now with the last month before Nyx, I really enjoyed the story so far. "I have chosen... to "live". This is my purpose, chosen by... me." GOOSEBUMPS Also the style of the game beyond Iwatodai is incredibly good as well. The character portraits, the fucking Evokers (I could watch Shinjiro, FeMC, Mitsuru and Akihiko summon their Personas all damn day), the top tier OST... P4G has its stylish parts (mostly in the dungeon crawling) but holy hell, beyond Tartarus and repetitive enemy design, I loved P3P's gameplay. It feels like I'm at the very beginning, despite reaching what is seemingly the last arc... Also, was there any point for the ending divergence before sparing Ryoji? Got a save on 12/30. BTW, Rooke, apparently there wasn't a date requirement for Mitsuru's S. Link. lol

  42. Definitely gotta be sharin no kuni. I love the whole mystery/battle of wits-esque plot and usually i try to predict for my self what plot events will happen next, and although i also loved the cartagra series the plot was just too easy to predict. (only read cartagra and 75% of kns 1) but that being said, following along with sharin no kuni, I just could not foreesee what would happen next and add that with a gripping plot it gets my 2015 goat vn.

But I'm fed up with SOL shit at the moment so I'm stalling it for a little and will be starting G-senjou no maou instead. After that I'll move over to Saya no uta I think. Will go into ikikoi again after those. First impressions off G-Senjou, the characters seem cool. The girl who keeps on noting everything down in her diary reminds me of Akira from Yosuga no Sora.
