  1. WARNING: This review contain spoilers. If you don't want to be spoiled, jump to the "Overall" section in the end. "Mihama Academy - on the surface, a closed learning environment established to nurture students who find themselves at odds with the world around them; in actuality, an orchard-cum-prison built to preserve fruit that has fallen too far from its tree. Whatever the circumstances behind its establishment, Mihama Academy is at present home to five female students, all with their own reasons for "enrollment." For better or worse, each girl has established a routine obliging of her current situation; life moves at an idle, yet accommodating pace within the walls of Mihama. Yet with the arrival of the institute's first male student, the nearly preposterously opaque Kazami Yuuji, the students at Mihama begin to fall out of step with their predetermined rhythms. Will Yuuji prove to be the element the girls around him needed to take hold of their lives once more, or will the weight of their pasts prove too steep a wall to overcome? And in the first place, just who is Kazami Yuuji? While the true nature of the "job" he is wont to alight to at the most haphazard of moments remains shrouded in secrecy, one thing is for certain - his encroachment upon the quiet orchard known as Mihama Academy will prove itself momentous in one way or another. And of course, one cannot discount the possibility that perhaps Yuuji himself carries the weightiest past of any of the students..." Story (7.42/10) Characters (9.04/10) Art (6.90/10) Acting (8.87/10) Soundtrack (5.60/10) OVERALL SCORE = 7.6/10 Overall, “The Fruit of Grisaia” is a good visual novel. It has a quite good story, strong characters and voice acting, and okay soundtrack and art. Not as bad as some people claim to be, but not a masterpiece. It’s not better than Rewrite, like I’ve seen some people put it, because Rewrite beats Grisaia in all those aspects, except maybe characters… However, I recommend it and I’m anxious to play Meikyuu

    Harems: Vns and real-life

The idea of a harem is a very old one. In fact, there is literally no culture (prior to Christianity) that, sometime in its past, did not accept the idea of a harem in one form or another. However, it was never a simple system of one man simply marrying as many women as he wanted. In some places, it was a mark of familial wealth. In order to avoid long-term difficulties, a wealthy individual would take numerous wives, produce numerous sons, and split that wealth amongst those sons in order to prevent his fellow villagers or townsmen from turning on his family at some future point. In others, it was a mark of political power. An Emperor would take numerous wives, both to form alliances with his nobles and foreign countries and in order to ensure the continuance of his dynasty (in most Imperial dynasties, it was accepted that there would be vicious palace politics that would kill off numerous potential heirs). In old China, it was accepted that a man would take a primary wife and many concubines if he had the wealth to do so. The primary wife would be the mistress of the family, whereas the others would help administer the husband's estates under her direction. So why did the harem system go out of fashion? It didn't, really. Most men of power and wealth have mistresses, even today, and the attitude of most 'old money' families is one of resignation toward this kind of behavior. Of course, religiously and legally those living in the mostly Christian west can only have a single wife, but the tacit approval of wealthy and powerful men taking mistresses is a work-around common to almost all monogamist cultures. Now, for the morality of it... extract religion and hypocritical social mores from the mix, and you basically have three golden standards by which the idea of a harem might be condemned or approved: 1. Are the men/women involved satisfied with the situation and well-treated? 2. Does the male or female holder of the harem have the wealth to support his/her spouses and any resulting children? 3. Are the resulting children happy and healthy? That's real life. VNs do it a bit differently. Because VNs tend to avoid dirty details (no, I don't mean H, I mean real-life style drama) and ignore inconvenient realities, the average VN probably wouldn't be able to fulfill those standards in the long run. This is because most VN protagonists don't have the capability or strength of will to both manage the inevitable internal conflicts of a harem (herding cats) and bring in enough money to support a large family. For this reason, most VN harems just don't qualify in my eyes as being a realistic idea. That said, there are VNs that actually consider the realities and make it seem like a realistic choice... but most don't manage it, lol. I especially have to rofl at harem nukige and moege. Now, for my personal viewpoint... I basically think that if you can manage to fulfill the 'golden rules' above, there is no reason why I should care if you have multiple wives/lovers. On the other hand, if you can't afford to have a wife and kids, you shouldn't. I hate optimists.

  9. Confession : I'm a bit ashamed of loving VNs so much and not so long ago I was still the kind of guy who thought it was for "pussies" and romances were for girls. Don't hit me please.

  11. senjou no mau is what you are looking for but I would recommend sharin no kuni, the humor is really good, the plot is awesome and there is a good love story too, they were made by the same company so you cant go wrong with neither of them. fate stay like I said it does have comedy, it's not the focus of the novel it is more serious than anything else.

  12. I think this could be important for people who play VNs in Japanese. Make sure you install the Japanese supplemental fonts, or text in VNs may not display correctly. This quote was in response to a person having problems with Kamidori Alchemy Meister using the English fan patch.

The dress changes in the manga, but i wanted take the original version of the VN so i redraved it and i copied the poses maybe i changed a bit the position of the arm in the left one,but anyway i need more practice. I thought it looked familiar. Now I know why.

  14. For what it's worth, since I'm probably twice the age of the average punter on this forum, I don't have a problem with you guys pirating while you can't afford the stuff, provided as your earning capacity grows you slowly move towards the group that pays for most things (that are worth it). All those visual novels you've loved and spent thousands of hours fapping to reading wouldn't exist without some kind of recompense on the creators' part. I think most business models are rather old fashioned and haven't realised that there really is no way the lower end of the age bracket, which is the bulk of the market, can afford the prices they offer things at. Much more affordable digital distribution is the key in my opinion with boxes, packaging, DVDs, extras and so on being for those who want the extra and are willing to pay the price premium. The other alternative is people will just pirate the digital version instead. In my opinion it's only a matter of time before something like steam - but not steam, so that we actually get uncensored 18+ material - will fill that niche. Maybe I should start a business...

  16. Confession: I spotted Meyer lemons in the grocery store this morning, so I baked a somewhat fancy dessert with the intention of bringing it in to work tomorrow for people to snack on. I only do this because I like being praised; I'm basically a VN heroine. If I'm really lucky, maybe somebody will pat my head.

  18. Paid for quite a few over the last 20 years. I'm more than happy to pay for stuff I like. Most of you would be horrified to learn that I buy them while in Japan, copy and/or install the ISOs off the DVDs, then throw out the DVDs, packaging and everything else. Currently I still have 4 VNs I purchased last trip that I haven't started playing. As a family man I can't have X rated boxes sitting on my bookshelf. Even most digital purchases leave an undesirable credit card record. I'd kill for a site that took bitcoin for purchases, or to have someone I could send some bitcoin and we could share in purchases, even though I don't buy that frequently.

  24. I buy when I can, and don't buy when I can't, to put it simply. I don't have a steady income, and any money I do get right now, as a general rule, goes towards college. If I have a gift card or something, I'm more than happy to buy VNs with it- I just bought Saya no Uta the other week, I own hard copies of almost every Key VN, and I have stuff like Eden on Steam. Basically I've been trying to start pirating less, but there are still cases where I just don't have any other options, whether it's because of availability or price.
