  1. I understand. Out of all possible people, you probably weren't expecting me to make one of these. First of all, don't delude yourself. I'm not writing this next to a fireplace with snow coming down outside with hot chocolate on my secretary and the dog sleeping at my feet. I'm in my cold room with the dog barking at the door, probably heard some kind of noise outside, with no drinks or sustainment of any kind and rain is pouring down outside. At any rate, here you go, my very own Christmas Message to ya'll. Merry Christmas. -Mr. Poltroon That ended up somewhat short, didn't it? Let's make up some more stuff on the spot. Like... like... oh yeah. My experience on Fuwanovel and stuff! I found out about Fuwanovel, and Visual Novels, right around the start of this year. What introduced me to visual novels was a very enjoyable game for me, by the name of "To the Moon", I highly recommend you play it, never know when my hitmen might knock on your door. Right around the same time, and purely by coincidence, I also found out about the Phoenix Wright series, another excellent group of games I suggest you play, for your own good health and whatnot. To the Moon showed me good storytelling that could come from this media, while Phoenix Wright showed me the comedy that would later become the reason why I play Visual Novels (I know, terrible reason, though perfect match for a terrible person). While searching for more, because people always want moar, moar, moar, I found out about this website. The first Visual Novel (at least in a truer sense) I played was Ever17. I was very scared, since I am a victim of the altogether too common irrational fear of the unknown, you see? Anime didn't have all that much of a good image in my mind at the time. I later found out my image was spot on, at least relating to nukige. Having thoroughly enjoyed the first game, I proceeded to play the sequel and prequel, and this is where I first used Fuwanovel. I used a walkthrough for Never7, and the first I found was the Fuwanovel one. Moving on, Fuwanovel became my place for walkthroughs. No, I had no idea I could download them here. Wonderful. The first VN I downloaded from Fuwanovel was Little Busters, and for a while, the only one. I fear the unbeknownst to me, I'll remind you once again. Keeping with that logic, I stuck with All Ages titles for a good 5 or 6 titles, it took me nearly a year to get through these. Of course, All Ages eventually ran out (at least those I was interested in), forcing me to try my first "eroge" so to speak, G-Senjou no Maou. Quite a challenge, considering it was my first contact (of my own volition) with pornography of any kind . You may choose to believe this or not, but I'm simply not very interested in matters of copulation. What a terrible topic, moving on. I eventually reached Grisaia no Kajitsu in my quest for mighty loot. I adored it. Like, really, to the point where it made me make my first post on the forums. I always make an account even for one time searches. Simply a pet peeve of mine, disregard it. You can check my first topic here, where you'll notice I was trying to keep any and all warped personalities under wraps. https://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/4111-greetings-equally-addicted-human-beings/ But that's enough about Fuwanovel, it's not like any of you care about that old thing anyways, right? Let's address myself now, I'm sure you're all itching to learn about my own life, asking questions like, "How much further can he boost his ego?" I'll show you: I'm a 28 year old man with a job at a local sports club (management side, don't ask me to do exercise, pls) which is rather well connected to my family. Great 'friends' with the chief, actually. Two sisters. Two parents. Exempting the older sister (that hater ), we all live together. My family is a fairly happy one, but I've come to think, just how different is it from other, perhaps more normal, families? It's pretty much a free-for-all around here. If an argument starts, younger sister uses up all opportunities to take a jab at the parents, the parents argue with each other and I attack everyone. If we all sit together to eat, making fun of everyone and everything is the norm, usually at someone's expense. And the main thing? The heavy, heavy use of sarcasm. Don't think I'm a wrinkled old grumpy man, this is how I was born and raised, and to be honest, it's plenty fun. I don't know what kind of image that gave you, probably a despicable one, but we're all happy people. I'm a natural pessimist, which when coupled with my usual personality does not produce good results, but what can one do? This makes me what I consider to be a horrible person. Makes fun of everyone, but doesn't get involved himself. Takes a jab at everything, even what he agrees with. Avoids any kind of responsibility, using "I think" and "Perhaps" to escape certainties. A craven to no end. This is who I am, and I'm well aware of it. My family is well-known as a funny one, myself included. That one guy who's fun at parties, but you might not be interested in getting too attached, might you come to understand what's beneath the funny surface. But this is who I am, and I know it well. Self-improvement seems fake and hollow to me. Being yourself seems the best way of life, so that's how I do it. Now... Let's tie this all up with Fuwanovel and finish up. I'm sure at this point only a couple of you have read this far, but worry not, I wasn't expecting anyone to really read this anyway. Fuwanovel is the only forum where I've stayed this long (not even a year yet, huh?). The reason for this is how I haven't been reprimanded much about my manners. I strongly feel that if I can't be myself, I've no place here. And, to be honest, I'm totally fine with not having a place anywhere, I know I'm not a person who's easy to get along (especially on a bad day, lovely). Strangely, though, Fuwanovel hasn't shunned me away like I thought it would, so it's certainly a happy surprise. In the end, thank you everyone, for making me happy (so self-centered ) and letting me feel at ease here. There's a courtesy kind of thanks, and then there's this kind of thanks. They're different, and especially when coming from me, one of them is pretty rare. I wish you all a Merry Christmas, and a fantastic New Year, because I do care about the seasons, for believe it or not, I too am human. :xmas: EDIT: Because I really have nothing better to do (lies, it's all lies), I have made this for your laughing at me pleasure: https://soundcloud.com/tiago-varela-3/sets/christmas-message/s-4tn1T

  2. So, celebrating reaching the half way point (and crying a bunch again) without it being taken off Youtube. I'm posting the videos of the story on auto-playthrough here. People who want to check the gameplay can just dig into the channel. I'm also annotating the video a lot to fix all the blatant translation mistakes I see. Also since a lot of my enjoyment comes from references to Roman history, mythology, and Christianity references, I'll also use annotations to point out and explain the references. Playlist is here. If you like it please buy the game. I still want to see it in anime form.

  6. I've put about 40 hours into the game and was addicted to it for several days. Here's my thoughts. Warning - They're mixed The game is open world, lots of places to roam and things to come across. This is pretty neat but presents some problems. The introductory area is massive, you can sink a good 15 hours into it but it doesn’t have much story to it. Because of this some find this map to be a bit dull. You can leave the introductory area about of a third of the way through, but a lot of people don’t and they get bogged down. The other problem with the game being open-world is there isn't much depth to a lot of the sidequests. It’s one of the trade-offs which should be obvious, but some people weren’t expecting. The searching system is balls. They incorporated the ME2 planetary scanner into the search mechanism, you click a button and it tells you if something retrievable is nearby by making a "ping" sound. It sounds neat but results in a frustrating time trying to hone in on an object when it pings on your RADAR. Frustration is multiplied when you discover you found a shrubbery and not the hidden Sword of Excalibur +15. They fixed this in the patch though, so now items appear on your minimap and this makes locating objects much easier. This is good. However if you install the patch other problems could arise, like the game freezing every few minutes. This prevents a lot of people from being able to use it. This is what's called being a tease! Writing – Story is short, plot is straightforward and nothing to write home about. The writing is good though, the characters are brought to life, they're funny or annoying and they'll all have their points of view. I tend to view them as the best set of characters in the Dragon Age series. There are a couple of moments where you can shed a tear but this is interspersed between hours of … walking. A lot of people don’t like the characters – let me warn you now. There’s a certain little bratty elven… lass who if you get on the bad side she can possibly shit you up the wall. Oh, and she doesn’t care about your opinions either, nor anybody elses, so that can possibly shit you up the wall. And she makes fart noises, which apparently shits people up the wall. Overall I liked her :3. The fact that a couple of the characters produces such feelings in the fans, whether positive or negative, is probably a good demonstration of how well they’re written. Much better than DA:O where Leliana was *yawn* and Wynne was *yawn*… possibly Sten too. 500K words of dialogue (not counting lore and stuff) in an open-world game is pretty ambitious stuff. And it’s constantly funny. Mounts – useless. I want to eat mine. Good for climbing I suppose. Hardcore stuff – There are no stat/attribute manipulations, only 8 useable skills at a time, combat is as actiony and twitchy as number two. When Bioware says “tactical combat” they mean “combat which is anything but”. Oh yeah, tactical cam is useless. You will have to use it but it’s useless. I use it under protest but would really rather be chewing off my right testical with some leper’s wooden dentures. The A.I behaviours are a joke which mean you have to micromanage everything on harder difficulties … BY TACTICAL CAM (which is called the developers having a fucked up sense of humour.) Let’s see, what else. Choice and Consequence. There are traditionally 2 ways this can go, you can either have your choices affect the story (ala VNs) or you can have your choices affect the environment (ala The Walking Dead.) This game is the latter. Your choices won’t have much impact on the overall story, but it will have an impact on your environment and world. I hope that makes sense. Other hardcore stuff… HA! Bioware still thinks longswords are 1 handed weapons. I think they do anyway. Romances – Not like DA2, characters can only be romanced by certain protagonists. Which seems to annoy people. Bioware changed it from DA2 because when every protagonist could romance anybody it annoyed people. Apparently the internet is filled with annoyed people. Bugs – Plenty. They give the game “character.” Overall – Inquisition is one hell of an ambitious game. Buggy, yes. Flawed, hell yes. But it’s a romp which is constantly fun because of the writing. Old-school RPG fans won’t like it because it doesn’t rely on your character’s abilities, nor do they get to choose how to approach certain challenges. New gamers won’t care as much. Trolls will point to the game’s “SJW” tendencies *rolls eyes* I’d give it a month before picking it up though to sort out the bugs. Anything in particular you wanted to know? EDIT: Oh, right. Multiplayer's focus is on the loot, but there's loot in the SP also. It's just not the objective of the entire experience like it is in the Multiplayer.

  8. I have been reading English/Fan - Translated VNs for only a short amount of time and there are so many more VNs I want to play in the near future. But there are still so many visual novels untranslated and translating them can take years of time. I have also seen a lot of dead translation projects which were dropped half way through. That's why I have a questions to those who have learnt or are currently learning Japanese: * How long does It take to read fluently? * How difficult is the language to learn? * Is it really worth learning?

  9. Just a quick thing that might be helpful to you. If you're in need for a translator/editor/TLC/whatever I don't mind making a post on Fuwanovel's official Facebook about it. I've always been doing it whenever someone asked me it's just I never made any official thread about it. Sorry this is so short but I hope it's of interest to some. If you think this could be of use to you let me know here or via PM with all the details and you'll get a post on our Facebook page. That is all, since thread is so short though, have a moe potato:

    Uhhhhh..hai?

*takes a deep breath* (oh kami help please ) ...... Hello everyone. I'm... Shortarch, Shorty, uhh... Short? Sorry for the weird post this could be a long one. I know it's best to write something introductory. Soooo..... please see below I'm a complete newbie to forums... and probably needlessly nervous, Litterally never really been on one much before as anything other than a guest to look up answers to questions i have. (kinda the reason I was here in the first place.) And after reading a ton of posts I just thought... Ah just go try it! ... So here I am, . It's something I've always wanted to try yet never really had a great reason to do so. 'Till now. I do enjoy my games, anime, and ... uh manga (every now and again) not going to lie about the games part! But recently picked up a visual novel ... and damn, this is something I need more of. I'm interested in... learning; Japanese, Dutch, Code (of various types), meeting new people... AND FINDING SOME MORE AWESOME VN's! If you want to know more about the stuff I've already tried... Just ask! I'm probably going to learn a lot from you! (sorry the name is misleading... I am actualy 172cm tall so not actually too short... kinda? ) I look forward to talking to you all! (unless you like *nomming* on short people D:)

  14. I'm waiting... I really do want to know just how absurd my family is. When I wish someone "Merry Christmas" one can safely assume I celebrate Christmas. Then again, I doubt you even had the decency to read the last line with the conspicuous Santa (another Holiday sign). Alternatively, you could have noticed by now that I am from Portugal, and as a fellow (western) European, chances are, I celebrate Christmas and not any other variation. For now, the course of action is to feign ignorance and to assume you were just trying to make as extensive as possible a greeting so no one would be left out. I'll probably take a while until we finish any other, more important, topics, but yes, I look forward to it. Of course. I just decided to write an entire page of useless filler to put the emoticons in it. I can't believe I was so nimbly seen through. And here I thought I had a good disguise under this holiday cover. What I can tell you, however, is that I wrote this in a notepad. The emoticons were added afterwards when I started to fear no one would honestly bother reading. Yes. I am very discontent with my life and have several trauma's relating to suicide, because lord knows, I can't spend ten minutes on the internet without coming across someone who has traumatic past. Evidence of this is all my self-deprecating. Clear signs of hating myself and everything relating to it. I'll tell you a story about a car accident I had some other time.

  40. Gleam Garden Review It*s been a while since I last read a VN without skipping a good portion of it. These days, the more I play, the more repetitive things get. Much of the visual novel industry is still obssesed with the cliches and plot patterns that we've seen for years, and this is unlikely to change if market demand is strong, sadly, it still is. Gleam Garden is Cosmic Cute's second novel, following Lovesick Puppies which released only a few months prior. Don't let its predecessor and fluffy cover art fool you though, this game isn't quite your typical moege. The story follows our protagonist Touji, a mentor who supervises the so called "witches", girls bestowed with mysterious and often deadly powers, isolated in a special training facility to aid their re-transition to society. Most of the plot takes place in this high school so don't let your hopes too high, it's still the typical slice of life you'd expect, but at least the protagonist is a teacher this time. The underlying conflict revolves around growing tension between humans as we know and humans of greater power, in this case "witches". This is, once again, an ageless theme that has recurred countless times in works of fiction and nonfiction of many media; we fear what is alien to us. Actual "witch" hunting dates back to the bubonic plague and beyond, the term itself brings negative sentiments. That said, his job isn't easy, but it pays off over time. I have to say that they saved the best for the last, the game becomes quite dramatic and action-packed near the end of each route (and for most of the true route); there are some intense and heartwarming moments here and there, expect a good ride. You have the choice of five heroines, one hidden, unfortunately, this game has locked routes. I found three of the heroines attractive and thus only completed three routes. Some of the characters have memorable traits while others are almost entirely defined by a type, not too surprising either, it all comes down to your preferences (I hate large breasts...). The protagonist is pretty much an older version of Kaito or Yuuji, proactive, strong, decisive, and badass, not anywhere near Minato though, he lacks personality. Character development is better than average, our setting naturally helps, but the plot doesn't take us far enough to trigger any major changes, the time frame is rather limited (except the true route). I would like to see a fan disc with after stories set years later. On a side note, the protagonist*s best friend, usually the comic sidekick, plays a rather unique role here, he doesn't appear much but you'll see. Art deserves an A. Luna's CGs, in particular, are very well done, the first one left me glued to the screen for a good minute. Soundtracks are fine, they do get repetitive at times, you can always turn the BGM lower. Character voices, my only complaint is one of the heroine's timid voice and choppy sentences, but the CV isn't to blame for what the script reads. Other than that, mostly on the spot. Gleam Garden is worth a try if you're looking for a decent medium length novel mildly packed with action and emotion. As always, you need the proper state of mind. Want an epic scale masterpiece? Look elsewhere. Otherwise, sit back and relax. Overall Score: 72/100 Comparison with similar works: Screenshots:
