  2. I started SIF back when the first event started and I'm glad I stuck with it since. Not only can I talk about it with a friend at home, I can also talk about it here on fuwa with you all. It's also great to see people from different parts of the world connect and be able to talk about something we're all passionate about. It's great to see the game grown since it was first released in eng~ ...now if only they raise cut-off from 1000 >__>

    Hacking tutorial

Here are some of my thoughts which can hopefully answer your questions. Is Proger's tutorial correct ? If yes, is it still relevant for current games engines ? I've only skimmed around it, but it appears to be focused towards helping you learn to figure out how a VN engine parses a binary script. The knowledge which is uncovered can serve as the foundation for being able to analyze and edit VN scripts. In a broad sense, I feel that the tutorial is applicable to current engines, although there are other relevant (and sometimes important) topics that the tutorial does not really cover such as file structures, cryptography, or compression. In plenty of visual novels, you can get stuff extracted easily if they don't use encryption or any custom compression algorithms. If they do, those elements will need to be analyzed and reversed to build an extractor. In this case, your topic here is geared towards data extraction rather than script hacking. If the reader wasn't quite interested about that, it still serves as a usable intro to get started on (dis)assembly and using debuggers to see how an engine is reading and processing its files. In other words, the tutorial is still useful yet tangentially so. Is there enough common "framework" between the different processes for this tutorial to be useful and exist ? In general.... yes. Making an extractor involves thinking about and inspecting how an engine is taking data in and preparing to use it. Archive formats are designed with a logical structure that you can pick out once you understand the purpose of an archive file. In some cases, you can avoid the need to look inside a game engine; by merely inspecting an archive using a hex editor, some formats can be figured out with some intuition, thus an extractor can be developed just from that knowledge. If an archive has encrypted/compressed data, or has a totally strange archive structure, then some actual analysis of the engine is probably necessary to figure out the precise details of the format(s) you're trying to examine. This is where you'll have to go in and use some of the methods that were discussed in that tutorial. Again, there are numerous approaches which will lead to the desired result, and it varies from game to game. Going deeper, knowing how the game uses the OS/platform can greatly aid in examining how the game engine is reading its files. This kind of knowledge can come from doing your own programming, and reading certain materials like API documentation. This might be an obvious one, but MSDN is a valuable reference source for Windows development. And of course, learn how to use your debugger. If yes, can the knowledge to create an extraction tool be summarized enough for the tutorial not to require months of learning ? Yes. Learning the basic ideas about data storage can be picked up in a short amount of time. Then looking at archive structures (at least with sensibly designed ones) can be decently easy if you're good at recognizing patterns and important elements. Moving onward, there are ways to have a working extractor without dropping months into the topic. There are tools like QuickBMS which take a user-made script and use it to extract a particular archive format.... but I have not personally used it a lot, so that's all I know about it. But still, I think spending the time to learn an actual programming language will turn out to be useful if you learn it with a goal in mind. Writing a file extractor is (in my opinion) something that's a not-too-hard thing to develop as a program. Going in with zero know-how to having something working within a couple days/weeks is possible, certainly. Have the right kind of motivation, and it can take you through a decent amount of the challenges that you'll face. - Would you as a hacker want to help me making that tutorial ? .....I'm not opposed to the idea. 4. Hi, everyone. ... There's no point in telling my real name, is there? There's no efficient way to verify my true identity here, after all. Even if I were to tell you the name written on the piece of paper people use to identify the others, you'd have no reason to believe me. Of course, various associations of my name with the images you have in your head might make the right impression, but I don't really feel like impressing anyone. I'll stick to my nickname for now. Maou Kuro. Age can tell a lot. Or so some people think. What really matters is the experience you've got over the course of your life, but that doesn't stop people from making prejudices, does it? People like to think they know more than they actually do. Not that I'm the one who should be telling them what they know and what they do not. I'm only 17 years old, after all. Should I mention the visual novels I've read so far? My first one was G-Senjou no Maou. I thoroughly enjoyed the story that kept me awake reading until the early morning. My second one was Grisaia no Kajitsu. Loved the stories of Amane, Yumiko and Michiru. The third visual novel I dropped shortly after I started reading it was Comyu - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku. I've been reading for almost 2 months, from 6 to 12 hours a day, and I ended up taking a break for a while. Feel free to give me any suggestions on what to check out next. I'm an optimist, an atheist, a determinist and a moral nihilist. I like instrumental metal music. I like anime and enjoy reading manga sometimes. I like talking to people, so feel free to message me anytime. That sums me up.

  10. In terms of feeling, I'll have to go with G-Senjou no Maou. It was the first that I finished, and unless you don't have a heart, you'll be crying like the little kid you are after finishing it.

  11. We will do it whichever way is most convenient when Azengar finishes the Agave patch. Helve-sama is a strict mod, but he has a point. Pointless comments are, well, pointless. Thus, if you have anything to comment, try and have something on-topic in the same post. (Unless that "comment" is conversation bait. We don't want unrelated conversations regardless of whether the post contains on-topic comments or not.) That is actually a very good idea. Will update the 1st post with the walkthrough link. Edit: Forgot to mention something. As suspected, Azengar's real life has been getting in the way, but he has made good progress. He is nearly done, but progress is currently quite slow, so we don't want to give a date yet. Some problem might pop up, and it'd be quite a hassle to deal with all the people complaining about missing our release date.

  15. Take your shoes off at the door, always place the fork on the right side of the plate and the knife on the left. Napkins should be starched and folded into a triangular standing display for all guests. Hand wash most pots and pans to save on water costs as well as extend the life of your dishes. Unplug unused appliances to avoid vampire drain, and unplug charged items when they hit 100% to save your battery. Don't text and drive, or drink and drive. Show up to work on time, and complete assignments at least 24 hours before they are due.

  18. I am not completely sure I am still staying Japanese myself so it might be some exception in this case that I don't know about but in most cases in Japanese when you want to say that something is of some color you put color before an object that you want to say is of that color and add extension "i" in the end of the color. Also maou is a devil king not just devil, (王) is a Kanji for a king. Akuma is just a devil and Oni is a demon. If you are learning Japanese we have a topic for it here.

  20. Welcome Black Devil King, very nice introduction, maybe the best I saw around here. I hope you will enjoy your stay here. I think you will fit here on fuwa nicely based on what I could tell about you from that introduction. I think you might enjoy a VN Saya no Uta so give it a try when you have a time it's not that long but it's amazing psychological story and something about you gives me a impression that you like psychological stories. 2 questions, as you said that you don't like homosexuality does that include Shoujo-AI too or just Shonen-AI? And do you like Lolis? And for an end have some Moe: PS: While I am not 100% sure about it I think that a Kuroi Maou is grammatically correct way to say Black Devil King.

  22. I can already tell you're going to fit in just well on the fuwa-rums, I'm currently taking a break from reading as well. It gets tough to keep up with college when I'm reading a VN for half the day as much as I'd like to be doing just that

  27. Bienvenido a Fuwanovel! (No spanish anyone, seriously?) Huuuuum, the only VN with comedy I can think about is Grisaia No Kajitsu,Little Busters, and MAYBE Shikkoku No Sharnoth (Most of the Visual Novels I read are way too serious,so meh......I need to re-check my tastes ) Can't say I reccomend Steins;Gates since, while at the end it gets better, the first part is boring because they explain you theories of Albert Einstein and rpqojprwqjrpwqj, which gets boring to the point that it forced me to hold CTRL (something I rarely do in Visual Novels unless I need to skip to play another route)

  31. VN: My current one... Deardrops, I expected not much and got really surprised about the quality and it's still entertaining. Game: Mass Effect Trilogy, thats the last I had really that wow-effect. For me thats the best thing I've ever played and I will it do again and again . But as a PC player i was also impressed by NBA 2k15, because of the huge step they made on PC.

    What are you playing?

Are you some ultra conservative christian or something? Lol, if it's her route then it's just part of their story together. You actually see it somewhat frequently in eroge where sex happens before two people get serious. I didn't expect to see someone to object strongly to that.

  42. Let's see... I usually imagine choices popping up whenever my life seems to depend on something. Like trying to console my crush alone, when she feels down. 1. Hug her, tell her she's beautiful and that everything will be okay. 2. Awkwardly stutter and end up saying nothing at all. In which case my mind automatically locks the better choice and decides on the latter.

  43. Anime was great until the last episode where they basically slapped all the fans in the face. I am very passionate about imoutos and that was a massive disappointment. VN will be 100 times better as there's an actual ending not only with Kirino but with all the other heroines. I really am looking forward to playing it and i am going to work on a walkthrough for it.
