  1. Hello everybody, I'm grateful to be back! It's been a long few weeks -- I appreciate your patience as I've been gone. The staff has done a great job, we've continued to grow at an exciting rate, and I'd like to thank Steve, especially, for holding things together. Fuwanovel is lucky to have him. I hope we can all drop him a PM or email with our thanks. I’m here to announce that the Member of the Month feature will soon be returning to Fuwanovel! May/June's MotM will be Down (he was short-changed the first time, too, so at least this way he gets a least a cumulative month of MotM powers). I hope that the community will accept the return of this feature, and celebrate Down and all he does for us, next month. More changes are coming in the near future. The staff has been hard at work for a few weeks discussing how to maintain our friendly atmosphere as we continue to grow, and we’re getting close to some important policy updates which will streamline moderators’ workloads. Another project: while I don’t have a lot of free time, I am working on some back-end improvements which will hopefully give you greater control over followed topics, the “New Content” section, and more. I’ll be posting as features go live/are tested. One more thing (which Kaguya reminded me of today) deserves a word. I haven't given out updates in a while (Because A. I’ve been gone; and B. Because the work is coming along slowly, but surely), but the Introduction to Visual Novels Kit is still being worked on, and is progressing nicely. Don’t forget about it, but don’t expect it next week, either – we’re taking our time and making sure it’s a quality production. Lastly, I’d like to share a thought which comes with >2 years of admin experience. Fuwanovel is growing faster than ever. The forums are more active than ever. Our social media base has grown dynamically. Things are going in a positive direction. That said, emotional states are cyclical, and now and then, because we’re human, we lose focus and we can’t see the forest behind all the trees. We feel stagnant. We feel like the community is going to the dogs. Let me be a voice of confidence to the entire community: we’re doing well – better than ever – and our best months and years are still ahead. If you’re feeling stagnant or tired, raise a voice – we try to run Fuwanovel “by the best ideas”. Don’t get discouraged. We’re doing well. If you’re feeling stagnation, the best thing to do is grow. USE this improvement board and put forward ideas. Make a gameplan and make them happen. It’s good to be back. I’ll be posting updates to all the above soon. Tay

  2. Are we doing this? Alright, but I'm just letting you know now, you guys started this, so prepare yourselves As for Michiru maybe there's another route where I really enjoyed the first H-scene in yumiko's route. And I agree about the dere side of her. Like I said, I really like all of the heroins except Amane

  3. I'm sorry everyone for creating another thread like this. I wasn't sure if should post on Bu-bu san's thread D: I recently finished a chibi of Touka from Date A Live today. That anime has wonderful character designs~ I finished this a while ago for a submission for key15th. Just a warning to everyone, this contains spoilers from all of key's works.

  4. Tenco's has prepared to release its EiyuuSenki(英雄*戦姫) in English (translated ver.), which is deprived of H-scenes and will be released on PS3 instead of PC. Meanwhile, Nitro+ is going to open its online store on the next Wed dedicated to serve international customers. Do you think more and more Japanese VN makers are responding to the international market? I think if Nitro+ have succeeded in earning a handsome amount of money by the online store, more producers will just follow the way. And a solid international market can then be formed. Do you think this is too optimistic? I am always worried about the H-scenes would have stigmatized the whole industry and thus being unwelcome to foreign countries... I surely hope Nitro+ can bring more hope to us...

  6. I feel the same. I don't mind the dark fetish stuff. I don't love it but i don't hate it either. I'm pretty hopeful for a great story in this one like Euphoria.

  7. I don't get what is there to bear with, I get that some people dislike extreme gore, but saying that someone can't bare with it is overexaggerated. Back on the topic if it really is Nukige then I am not interested in it as I don't like any H-scenes, but if it is an Eroge with a focus on a story I would definitely like to give it a try, true I doubt that it will ever get translated.

  8. Saginomori-sensei:「ねぇ、ウォリックさん。同人誌ってこれぐらい描けないといけないの?プロの漫画家もビックリなんじゃない?」 Hey Warwick? For working on doujinshi's, do you really have to be this good? Even a professional manga artist would be surprised. Warwick-san:「プロの意見は聞いたことがないので。同人誌は好きでやってるだけですから」 I haven't asked one, so I couldn't really say... Doujinshi are made because the artist wants to. Warwick-san:「同人誌は作りたい気持ちが重要なので、上手くなければダ ということはないですよ。まぁ、採算を考えるなら上手いに越したことはないですけど」 The desire to create something is what's important, so it's not like if you're bad you can't do it. Well, if it's about the money, nothing's going to top being skilled. Saginomori-sensei:「そっか。それじゃあ、絵画の方は?」 [方=ほう] I see. So what about your art? Warwick-san:「あっち気分転換ですね……それに絵が売れれば、同人誌の費用も稼げるので」 It's just a change of pace for me......Besides, if what I draw sells, it'll help cover the cost of producing doujinshi. [i'm assuming Warwick draws doujinshi, and is doing picture-drawing/sketching for a change, and that 同人誌の費用 "Doujinshi Expenses" are from him creating/publishing doujinshi, but it could what he spends buying doujinshi.]

  12. Oh! Great to see you Tay, I missed your charisma. As for the project request, wouldn't it be good to have a youtube account? You know like that video introduction to VN you made, but with more things. Podcasts, reviews, news, and that one activity you did on Skype whose name I don't seem to recall. As fuwan has grown isn't it a good idea to make use of it and bring it to youtube where a lot of young otaku wander?

  19. Kurumi from Date A Live. She's the 2nd best girl right after Kotori. Disagreeing with this statement will not go unpunished. Her character is great. Sadistic girls in general are great. But Kurumi has her own unique appeal.

  21. Here is what it comes down to everyone. The Fuwanovel staff is still working on finding a balance between letting people have fun, and being a place for constructive discussion. When Aaeru began Fuwanovel, I don't believe she ever expected it to become as big and as popular as it did, so many of the guidelines for the staff are pretty outdated. Fuwanovel should absolutely be a place where you have some fun. It isn't like there is all that much VN discussion to go around with how little the western market sees. That said, we really want to make sure topics are useful, and especially on topic without being derailed (as I've seen some complaints popping up about that). We don't want to become too strict and stifle what you guys have come to enjoy though. Because the staff has allowed everyone to become accustom to the old way of doing things here, it makes it difficult to change things up without upsetting a significant portion of the user base. The staff is still working on some changes to the rules and the way they moderate to hopefully remedy some of the complaints I'm seeing in this thread. For now though, please bear with the staff as the new system is ironed out and more specifics are drawn up. Just keep in mind though, Fuwanovel will not lose what makes it different from the rest of the VN community. Fuwanovel will remain a friendly, welcoming place to VN enthusiasts of all levels; from new to veteran. I want to think Maef for posting this thread despite the negative outlook of Fuwanovel. It has allowed the staff to get an insight into what the members actually think of the forums right now and will allow the staff to better draw up a new set of rules for moderation. I will now be closing this thread. If you still wish to discuss this thread, you may do so by messaging the staff and talking with them.

  22. First things first, my personal opinion (not as a staff member) is that I agree with most of what maefdomn said in his two posts. Now to address a few things. *The abandon of the fuwa projects: this was not due to "internal drama". We all agreed on the direction we wanted to take, but we couldn't. Because of legal issues and issues with people outside the forum. A lot of shit happened really fast, and somehow at the end Fuwanovel still existed and everything went back as it was before - with no advancement made and Tay no longer able to take care of his projects for various reasons. I won't disclose more, it's personal stuff and it's a thing of the past - not interesting to dwell on it. Anyway, with the instigator of the projects unavailable and some motivation loss from the staff due to these events, things have stagnated. If there are people willing too, and with Tay being progressively back, there's no reason it will stay this way. *Lack of moderation, spam, G&C: we discussed this internally too already. The Fuwa policy have always been minimal moderation. If some of you think it's not enough, we'll think about it, but I don't think there's that much spam out of G&C (we'll pass on mistakes like the Majikoi thread growing out of proportion), and G&C will probably stay the way it is. Again, I personally agree with Maefdomn and there's no reason silly fun and serious discussion can't coexist in the same forum if they are in separated sub-forums. I think the essence of the post is "we have fun, why don't we do more than just that and also make interesting projects and have more constructed discussions".

  23. We get quite a number of people ask about the progress constantly, and always tell them. The only time I remember saying ti someone "please check the posts" was when someone demanded (not asked) a detailed explanation on the progress when it has been said a couple of posts above. Considering that what used to be anons are now registered users who enjoy the chat, and that in no way we are aggressive towards newcomers, I fail to see how the Majikoi thread demands any bravery from anyone. The critique would probably make more sense, too, if it didn't feel to all of us like a "I really dislike that thread, so screw it". If I saw a regular visitor of that thread making concerns, I would talk with him about them, but the posts here just give me that feeling I said.

  24. Sakuya from rewrite. Fine, Chihayas route was pretty much that but seriously... I want to see his back story. We saw a simple one but I feel like that itself can turn out to be a really good route if they fleshed it out.

  25. What of people who lack any sufficient skillset necessary to make what would be in your opinion a meaningful contribution to Fuwanovel? Should they be cast aside or ostracized simply because they came to Fuwanovel for the sole purpose of sharing their love of Visual Novels and discussing various topics with others? "Fun is good, but it doesn't help." Why do you read VN's Maefdomn? Is it not because you enjoy doing so? Why do people frequent the games and chatter section of Fuwanovel? Is it not because they enjoy doing so? Most of us are here do not have the capability or will necessary to contribute Fuwanovel in a practical sense. Yet do we not contribute by simply being a fanbase? Something which is a product and aspect of the popularity of Visual Novels. We are here because we love VN's. We are here because we have found others that love VN"s and discovered a place where we can express our mutual fondness of VN's without being criticized or condemned for it. "I don't think Games&Chatter should be considered the dumpyard of fuwanovel and that everything should be allowed in it." One man's trash is another man's treasure. It is easy enough to call something that you personally don't like trash and worthless, but don't you feel somewhat wrong for attempting to use your own opinions to try and disregard and trample upon the opinions of others? If you don't like something personally isn't it better to just ignore it and not participate in it? Why do you feel the need to put down and demean others who do participate and enjoy the chatter section of Fuwa? Ren's thread was thoughtful and welcoming, but in it's current form I can't see your thread as being anything more than lashing out at things you deem to be not not useful or unnecessary,

  27. Localised copies sell barely anything. Barely a year ago, MG's top selling title barely registered 2,000 copies. JAST can't stay afloat by themselves, it needs to be propped up by JList. And translator's at MG rip through shitty nukige in a couple of weeks because they're poor and need the extra money. Compare this to Christine Love, who sold 30,000 copies of her indie VN and you'll start to realise how bad their situation is. It's hypocritical to talk about respecting an author while pirating their works. Whether it's expensive to obtain or not, respecting someone is to take into account their wishes and feelings, like their desire to be paid for the stuff they do. You can talk about respect for literature as much as you want, but once you start talking about respect for the author, you start treading into hypocritical territory. And while the writer has already been paid, you forget they work at a developing studio, many of which are struggling to stay open in Japan (the creators of EF, for example, have almost had to close down.) Purchasing their game and flooding money back into the developer will directly affect the writer and the situation they are in. I am calling the fan-tl community hypocrites if they want to discuss the feelings of the original author, because while you may import your games, the majority do not. Let's not pretend anything, the majority of the people who use the fan-tl patch will be playing it on a pirated copy, so when you're discussing the feelings of the author, you should know they would care sfa about how badly their work is being butchered and more that thousands of people are downloading it without paying. That would be the concern of the writer, NOT 'God no, Joe Black has missed all my sweet Japanese nuances, how dare he!' Game writers and small game developers are struggling to stay alive, their first concern would be the money their company is missing out on. If you want to translate something because you have respect for the work and you want a high-quality translation for everybody to enjoy, then do it. It shouldn't matter if it's been done before or not. If you don't want to because some group has already done it, then don't do it. The translators can stop fucking whinging that somebody has got to a project before they could and is doing a bad job, though. That's called 'time to grow up', and it's sickening to see this teenage drama flooding the translation field. If they want to do a better job, they are welcome to do it. And the fans who can't read Japanese themselves? Well, it's just tough luck. Until people start buying more products and making visual novels profitable to localise, you're stuck with the inconsistent nature of fan-tls. And yes, that means taking the bad with the good.

  35. I hope it's ok to double post in this thread Dx I'm reading Tsukihime at the moment, so I thought, why not? I'm kinda sad that Arcueid didn't end out as elegant as she was Dx Every season, starting with the last season, I've decided to cg chibis of animes/vns that I'm watching/reading to force myself to draw as I haven't drawn CGs in a long time. So for this season, I will do: Amy (Suisei no Gargantia), Hataraku Maou-sama (Emilia), Rin (LB!; completely slacked this off), Youko (Cross Channel), Sakura (CCS), Mikasa (Shingeki no Kyojin), Nanoha (possibly), and Yume (Hoshimemo). I'm almost done with Amy and Emilia I've actually read Cross Channel and Hoshimemo before this season but I liked CC and I love Yume's design *v*
