Tokeijikake no Ley Line -Asagiri ni Chiru Hana- is VN of the Month. Kurogane Kaikitan -Senya Ichiya- is another curious species. Clephas did not choose anything due to nature of trilogy and absence of PC release for the mentioned games. Micchi emphasizes Natsu no Iro no Nostalgia and Haru Kiss

1. Kimihane: Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi Suru Ikkagetsu きみはね 彼女と彼女の恋する1ヶ月 [150123] BaseSon Light 1 2

Hina, Rin and Fumi are new roommates at Seiba Girls’ School. Even though they had different personalities and upbringings, they had one thing in common: they recall seeing an angel when they were small. They each suspected that one of the other girls was actually an angel.

The topic of the day is anti-terrorism. The story takes place in an alternate history where Japan is the economic center of the world in 2015, where they face threats of terror every day. On February 4, 70 years ago (1945), major cities of the Allied countries all went up in flames at around the same time, bringing Japan to victory. The atomic bombs never dropped, and history basically went the way of an conservative old Japanese man’s wet dream. Fast forward to 2015, and the culture isn’t all that different from the real world aside from the fact that Japan is an economic center that constantly faces terrorist attacks. There’s a bit of the Showa period feeling (high economic growth) to the modern setting.
The political side of things isn’t as important as the supernatural setting. There are rare objects with special powers, called Kurogane, that are used in anti-terrorism measures. Kurogane have a variety of useful powers, but they’re tools that choose their owners and few people have an affinity with them. In a high school-level police academy (which behaves more like a somewhat specialized high school than an actual police academy), there exists a top-secret team of Kurogane users called the Kurogane Team that takes on various missions to eradicate terrorists. The protagonist and heroines are all a part of this team, and the story revolves around their missions.

3. Durarara!! Relay デュラララ!! Relay [150129] Kadokawa Games

It is January in Ikebukuro. Mikado Ryuugamine, Masaomi Kida, and Anri Sonohara are at the opening ceremony of the third quarter of school. In the city, Simon Brezhnev continues handing out leaflets outside Russia Sushi, and Shizuo Heiwajima continues throwing vending machines; nothing out of the ordinary in their daily lives. Yuuhei Hanejima and Ruri Hijiribe star in the movie Case Bodyguard 2: Salaryman Ninja Gu, and like every day, Celty Sturluson completes her deliveries.

When he was very small, Yuuji made a promise with a girl to become a magician and save the world. They parted ways soon after and the promise also gradually changed its meaning until all that remained was a ring which they had exchanged at that time.
Many years later, with the world trembling at the impending return of the “witch”, he decided to enrol in a magic school to fulfill his promise. However, even though he had top grades in the written and practical exams, he was failed for the simple reason that he had no training as a magician. He was recognized as a special case in a follow-up exam and entered Maialens Magic Academy half a year later. It is where youths with excellent magic ability train in anticipation of the witch’s revival.
While he was touring the school, he suddenly heard a familiar sound and was witness to a battle. In front of him stood a girl in colourful clothing, wielding a giant weapon that’s too big for her and with a shimmering ring on her right hand. She was the girl who he had made the promise with, Ema. She looked at the ring on his hand and declared that he wasn’t the Yuuji that she had hoped for. He didn’t understand what she meant, but she continued: “I will be waiting ahead for you.”
Afterwards, he discovered that he had been placed into a class of students with low grades. Unless all of them show qualities of a magician within a month, then they will be forced to drop out. So, Yuuji still had not been recognized as a proper student at the school. This is the first step in fulfilling his promise and to save the world.

This is another Japan in a world supported by people with powers that derivate from fairy tales. Kouji was born with the power (‘cast’) “roi jewel”, which appoints the next King. He transferred into Gokyou Gakuen with his attendant Tsubomi, but due to living a secluded life because the country was raising him to be the next king, he and Tsubomi get lost and get to the school really late. When they arrive there's no one around, the go out looking for someone to help them and arrive in a arena where Kouji is attacked by three girls with powerful casts.
After the schools principal arrives and stops the fight she explains the Schools rules. The girl who defeat him in the Butoukai tournament and remain undefeated will marry him at his graduation, but Kouji and Tsubomi didn't know that and he will do his best to not lose to anyone and marry whoever he choses. They all ended up sharing a dormitory and he gradually began to know them better.
At that time, there was sequence of attacks on girls at the school almost every night. As they investigated the truth, they unexpectedly revealed the presence of a mastermind behind the incidents.
Ridiculous synopsis leads to even more ridiculous development and finalizes with harem.

Kisaragi was not able to find a job after graduation, so he has been reluctantly helping out his older sister Mutsuki at her café Kirschtorte since spring while continuing his job search. Located near the train station in a residential neighbourhood, it was often visited by students returning home. He did his shift every day with veteran part-timer Himari and osananajimi Sana, and business was generally quite good.
Summer soon turned to fall, and his employment situation didn’t change. One day, the manager Torie brought in a girl who had looked troubled on the street. They gathered to ask her questions, but she seemed hesitant in answering them. Himari remarked that it must be because she lost her memories. So, Mutsuki suggested that she live and work part-time at the café while regaining her memories. The girl, Nanase, reluctantly agreed and the everyday at Kirschtorte gradually changes.

He immediately went to meet up with Chihaya, but he was attacked by a black magic warrior named Crimson. However, he can’t fight by himself; he only had the power to bestow magical powers to his partner, transforming her into a magic warrior.

They were able to fight off Crimson, but Natsuki was perplexed at how he was able to give his powers to someone other than Chihaya. When Ryouto awoke from his coma, the world around him seemed to have changed colour. This is because he gained a special ability which allowed him to see the people’s emotions as colours. For example, happiness shows as amber, sadness as sapphire, anger as ruby, and desire as emerald. Aside from that, he was like any other normal boy.
He returned to his hometown Kaido-chou with his imouto Miu for the first time in three years and transferred into Himawari Garden. They were surprised to see a field of large blossoming sunflowers for which the school was named after, even though it was only May. It was said that sunflowers which bloom outside of their normal periods are supposed to bring good luck to the students. However, there was not much excitement in the quiet classroom and he was also unable to notice any colour in his classmates.
He reunited with three girls whom he was friends with in the past. Their friendship which was thought to last forever had been shattered during that summer three years ago. As he picked up the broken fragments one by one, he felt both the darkness and love which they held in their hearts.

Natsu no Iro no Nostalgia is a decent plotge with an empath for a protagonist.  It isn't a kamige, nor is it really exceptional.  However, it is good enough to be worth playing once.

I dropped Gakuen Butou no Folklore because it was such a crapfest from the beginning.

The Leyline series is the Leyline series.  I dislike it when games are split up in this manner, and I hate the ladder-style story structure.  It also isn't written as well as Purple Soft's games, so it isn't good enough to overcome my distaste for this kind of thing.

I'm quite late to comment on December 2014 releases, so may as well comment on that as well.

December 2014

Nekopara - Well it might be a nukige with the focus on the catgirl, but at least the graphic is very good thanks to Sayori's effort in which I just recently learnt that she's the one who draw Touhou fanart that I like to use as the sprite in Labyrinth of Touhou. It also help that it's very popular so much that it spawn many other VNs with the focus on catgirl with cafe (Or separated), so at least we can say that Nekopara here is the trendsetter although whether it's good or bad it depend on each other (What I know is that I still not added catgirl with cafe VNs at my best rated translated VNs lists). Lastly I would say that perhaps we should thank Nekopara to make Sekai has more financial security compared to Sol Press, so that we can still have Sekai until now (Despite several blunders that they did in the past).

Himawari no Kioku - Speaking about Sol Press, poor them that they still not find the translator to resuming the remaining 32% of this VN (If I remember right it's been at 68% translated). Also poor the developer that their plan to localize this VN was failed with the first time they pretty much failed to localize it by themselves and the second time they ended up with Sol Press who turned out to have their financial was less secured, which is too bad because the graphic of this is quite good. Here's hoping that someday we can have this VN localized, preferably with Nekonyan.

Tsukiyori 2 - If Clephas did say that it was not as good as first Tsukiyori, then perhaps the sequel was more or less unnecessary to a degree. Although apparently the MC is different from the first part, so perhaps the label sequel here is a bit wrong because we following the different MC. Not that it matter anyway seeing that we still not have this translated, and knowing on how Navel did trust the company who had Pulltop to censored their overseas release to localize Shuffle safe to say that we may have this censored if Navel localize this.

Kanojo no Seiiki - First part of feng's Seiiki trilogy in that each part will be focused on one heroine, and the first part here will be focused on childhood friend who is quite rich and has the ego as fragile as the glass. Sekai already have this since back at 2019, although until now it's still not released yet though (At least it's already has it's engine has been worked on, which mean that it's almost ready for English release (Hopefully)). Oh yes it's also already has Indonesian translation, which mean that Sekai's release of this VN is more or less already redundant for Indonesian lol.

Amakano - It has good graphic, and the sequel did improve the graphic so much that it won Getchu Best Graphic at 2020. Other than that, it's more or less just moege/charage so I don't have much to say in regard of this.

Chaos Child - The sequel of Chaos Head (More like Noah though) in that it focused on the aftermath of Chaos Head, and the MC here is Takuru who can be said has different mindset from most people who he think that most people were wrong. One day Takuru did find out that there's murder cases that more or less copied the same murder cases in Chaos Head, and so Takuru decided to investigate it to the bottom of it which may turned out to be more complicated than it seems. At first we only have this for console, but some people from Committee of Zero did work hard on porting the translation of this to PC version and so we have Chaos Child for PC in English even before the Steam version of this was announced.

January 2015

Kimihane - First part of the duology, and it's not as good as the second part. Other than that, well it's a GL VN that somehow was quite well received to a degree (The second part) and that Mangagamer did localized this so we can play Kimihane duology in English.

Natsuiro - Took the same setting as Sakuramori, only that it has less horror. Should be good VN to play if you only expect charage I suppose, although it's interesting that the MC has setting that he can see the emotions with the gemstone color.

Tokeijikake Morning Mist - The reason on why we have serial VN is because the writer probably still not collected enough material for the complete story and yet the company obviously need to release the new VN as soon as possible, and so both decided to compromise by releasing serial VNs. Whether the format is good or not is up to you, although it would be admittedly suck if one read the first part of the VN only to find out that the story is basically incomplete. Anyway as for this Morning Mist here is supposed to wrapped up the whole Tokeijikake, although too bad that Sekai just finally manage to finished their work with the engine which admittedly quite hard to work if what I seen in Flayable Heart is really applied to all of Unison Shift Blossom VNs in that the VNs might not operated optimally if the English text was inserted (I still can't forget the experience on how I need to insert the DVD to play Flyable Heart and I need to wait for five seconds in order to open the menu).

That's all for my comment in regard of both of December 2014 and January 2015 releases.
