A moege lover's take on Magical Marriage Lunatics!!

Magical Marriage Lunatics is an rom-com VN with heavy moe elements bought to you by the same company and scenario writer as the fan-favorite Princess Evangile, and available for purchase at MangaGamer.

Plot / main theme of the VN is pretty thin; There are a total of 6 Heroines. The protagonist slipped into 4 alternate dimensions when he was a child and each time he met a girl there (btw this part is never fully explained; He simply just slips into the other dimensions in the past and the VN left it at that). Some weak excuse of an encounter happened afterwards and he made marriage pacts with them (The last 2 girls' pacts were made on earth realm). After coming to age, the 6 girls approached the protagonist all at once to make good of the pact made, but he must choose only 1 among the 6.

First of all, I must say the most important thing to do in order to enjoy this game is to come into it with a blank state of mind and without expectations. I was sorely disappointed with this VN because I am a big P.E fan and I came into the VN expecting something similar in quality. Suffice to say, MML is nowhere near that. The breakdown:

Graphics - Very moe in nature with hi-res colourful artwork, high contrast (overly so imo), and very cute heroine design:

                   Yuria.Rin.Road.full.1630753.jpg                                                    tumblr_oraunof35t1u034iko1_500.png

Not much to say here; It's a moe lover's dream come true, while people like @VirginSmasher will hate it :D

Music - Average in quality. Much like P.E, not bad overall, but nothing particularly memorable or catchy to me.

Characters - Not bad. The heroines are cute and likeable. The protagonist is written decently but his character is cliche-filled and nothing special about him stood out.

Storyline - This is the part which disappointed me the most; It lacks depth, and the quality is nowhere near the likes of P.E at all. The biggest issue is the common route is excruciatingly boring. It's mainly just a bunch of random events which was very uninterestingly written and has almost nothing to do with the main theme of the VN; the marriage pacts. The storyline is not structured very well too imo; at the start, you meet all 6 girls and are given some thin backstory on the marriage pacts ---> SoL common route ----> choose a route to go into. End of story. Little effort, too, was given to develop the backstory between the Protagonist and the girls.

The routes are better, but mainly because the common route is so bad it makes them look so. The quality of the writing here is nothing special and full of cliches. Not even close to P.E standard.

This title also requires you to suspend your disbelief very heavily as it makes no attempts at all at being even remotely realistic (although I know this is a work of fiction, I still can't stomach the fact a talking bat can just waltz into our realm, talk to normal people, and even go shopping out in the open without causing anything near to a commotion). A lot of the story also makes heavy use of deux machina and feels very random; for instance events that happen inside a particular route (an example being what happened in the incident between the protagonist and Luce's father and his army after he revisited their realm in Luce's route) will go completely unmentioned elsewhere.

Overall, I do not recommend this title even to moege lovers. At 45 USD, it isn't cheap and there are a ton of better moeges out there in the market you can get at this price (or cheaper). While it's not a bad VN overall, comparatively it just can't compete. Only consider this VN if you can come in blank and without expectations. Otherwise, you will inevitably compare it to other (better) titles, notice the flaws, and be sorely disappointed with your purchase.

I saw one screenshot from this VN that told me everything I needed to know about it and why I'd completely hate it, so I'm glad I decided to read Killer Queen instead of this.

Your words can't be trusted as you are deeply bias against Moege :makina:(can't believe you gave Kono Oozora a 4.0 score at VNDB :vinty:)...

....is what I would like to say. This time I agree with you. MML has wayyy too little substance, very boring, and is comparatively inferior to other similar VNs to justify it's high price tag :wafuu:....

  1. It was actually a 4.8/10. It was extremely boring with mediocre heroines, poorly executed drama, and nothing comedic to entertain me. Dropped it before I reached a route because of how bored I was. Seriously, moege/charage need to learn how to get their common routes to be interesting.
  2. You can trust me with finding moege that actually has entertainment value. Hence why Chrono Clock is the only moege EOPs should read. :makina:

Considering your stance on Moege, nope you should not be taken seriously. It would be like taking anime recommandations from someone saying all anime is trash. Btw this is not a comment on whether or not you are correct in regard to this VN just generally that you of all people shouldn't be trusted in regard to Moege.

Not really, because for some people all VNs (Yes, even euphoria) out there could be classified as the moege lol. So if we follow that principle then I think either Dies Irae, Subahibi, or Himawari can even be classified as 'moeges that EOPs should read' XD. But for the sake of this topic, let's use the term moege only for VN with cute characters and light story.

As for the VN itself, even the premise itself is more than enough to stretch the suspension of disbelief. What I said about the suspension of disbelief is the marriage pact itselves, in which it's make the matter worse for Yuuta because it make him looks like a playboy. If the marriage theme at the VN really isn't explored enough, then the pacts itselves is what should we call as the plot device along with Yuuta spiriting away because without those two Yuuta wouldn't have the big problem. Another problem is that out of all girls, only three out of six have their marriage future depicted in the CGs so in other word it's quite ironic that only half of the heroines did get their in story conclusion.

Another reason why I didn't agree with the harem here is that wedding is a very serious lifechanging experience, and therefore it should be the most delicated storyline. Making it that all girls have promise to marriying Yuuta only gave the bad impression of that, because it mean that girls themself didn't think too much about the marriage here and just do as they pleases at their childhood (Granted there are Yuuta's circumstance, but still). In the end, what I can say is that Moonstone here probably didn't think too much about the wedding, and just make it as the theme of the VN like back at Imopara 2 when they made Imopara 1 characters as the parents of the sibling resulting in confusing cousin sibling blood if we think carefully.

For the moege comparison itself (Or Romance-SoL according to Mr Pooltron), I believe that Fureraba is better than this because at least we didn't have marriage promise thing. Other than that, even when we compare by the synopsis alone there's a lot of better moege there (HatsuKoi, Wagahigh, Yoake) imo. In the end I'll leave it to each of their own whether you'll enjoy Marriage or not.

PS - As for the talking bat, I believe that it can easily solved by either the bat is capable of hypnotizing everyone or just make sure that it's the common knowledge since Luce herself was become the student, so I think it's still within logical here because we already have another worlds setting.

Dude, seriously why do I get the feeling you are seriously hung up on the whole marriage and playboy thing? :vinty: .....

At no point in the VN was it implied that the bat hypnotised or did anything similar to people in our realm in order to be accepted. He simply just appeared in front of people, they accepted him normally as if it's a normal occurrence, and the VN left it at that. It didn't even bother to come up with an excuse which is even close to being believable. Come on, even for a fictitious game, Moonstone can do that :yumiko:........

If you say like that, does that mean you like moege after all then? Because from what I understand, if someone baiting by say 'I hate moege' there's a chance that he/she like moege, and want to know the reaction of the people by say that he hate moege. If that's the case, then this could be an interesting discovery lol. But if I'm wrong here, I'm apologize on that.

I'm pretty much already give up on that playboy and marriage thing, and my opinion on that is pretty much my last argument against illogical of Marriage here lol. Considering that you say Moonstone didn't able to came up with believable excuse for the bat thing, safe to say that perhaps we better don't ask about marriage plot here at all.

Yes VirginSmasher actually love Moege, he is just being a tsundere about it, I figured I would play along with him since I pity him for his poor attempt at lying. I have reconsidered this now due to how cocky he was with his baiting comment, sorry VirginSmasher from this day forward you will be known as the Moege lover.

It was bait in that nobody should listen to me on what moege people should read, since I only actually enjoyed 1 in my history of reading.
