Random VNs: A few thoughts

First, I recently completed my second playthrough of Kikan Bakumatsu Ibun Last Cavalier... and I'd forgotten how much fun it was digging around in the political violence of that period.  It made me remember why I named it VN of the Year 2015, though that was mostly because 2015 sucked, lol.  It is a great game for fans of historical fantasy and the Shinsengumi, as well as fans of Grisaia's writer (who also wrote this one).  Having a trap protagonist who is also more than a little... bewitching makes it even more interesting, hahaha.

Second, I'm considering a number of VNs for my next random VN... I keep meaning to replay Muramasa (though that one is so over-sized it is hard to get up the energy for it) and Bradyon Veda (ditto).  I'm also considering a number of older VNs for replay, as well as Sengoku Hime 7.  Last Cavalier was great for sword fights and high ideals accompanied by bloodshed, but I'm kind of in the mood for ambition and war, lol.

April's releases are all short games, so it won't take much time to get through all of them.  As a result, I will inevitably play at least some random VNs this time around... what kind of game would you like to hear from me about?

Any requests considered, right?

I have particular interest in chuunige and the VN that thrills me the most recently is Sabae no Ou. Can't make my mind about it without a proper review. It should not be total trash since it got sequel Sabae no Ou II. Just a thought to consider.

I'm quite interested in that too actually. I bought the game a while back, planning to read it, but never got around to it. Would be cool to hear someones opinion on it.

wasn´t that much impressed by sabae no ou, basically one of many that fell flat somewhere in between story-/setting-wise, btw i personally found its cast to be a little imbalanced, but that´s just me deeply loathing authors who won´t treat each and every character of theirs with the same care (e.g. to hell with sakurai).
as for sth enjoyable(?) to recommend reading, well, france shoujo is a pretty darn good title in this regard. good amount of uniqueness, fleshed out cast that´s behaving realistically (more or less), a setting, having basically zero to do with highschool-ish shenanigans, a definite lack of unjustifiable happiness (hooray!) and lastly a very intriguing atmosphere, btw. no sudden bursts of whatsnot, totally ruining ones mood out of nowhere. granted, said title is by no means this world´s most impressive bephemoth in terms of being visually advanced (though i´ve a thing for such styles; also fuck dem hd-fetishists) or technically earthshaking, but if a good story is what matters to you most, then i´d say give it a try.

edit: sequels are no good indicators of possible quality. there´s more than enough garbage floating around which´s sole excuse for existance was its predecessors having sold well, for better or worse.
