It's probably not poetry day any longer in Sweden, but whatever, I tried.

Emphasis on tried.

I'm thinking about whether I want to provide my own translation enough that I do this right now, as 2am approaches. Huh.

EDIT: it's pretty bad, doesn't rhyme, but at least I could write it in thirty minutes. I suppose that's something.

It was in the time of peonies
and jasmines.
She sat at my table, mellow;
to blame were the flowers and wine.
We mixed thoughts and gazes.
Words sprang in bouts,
a web around us they wove;
we were united, and we lived
each other's lives as our own;
quotation marks shied away,
and questions undenoted -
truly a wedding of souls!
And the sun shone oh so lovely
upon the jasmines,
which mixed scent so pure
with the wine.
Then falls sudden darkness,
and the air quiets and stiffens.
The sun shines no longer,
the flowers close, trees shiver.

*

We fell silent, she took my hand,
as fright our tongues bound wholly;
only our eyes dared ask
were we to burn in mutual pyre...
Then falls slow heavy splashes
upon the walls and windowpanes;
And the drops they shatter - think!
And cover the panes with exclamations.
A blast above the eaves erupts,
the clouds alight with smoke and fire.
So the heavens boom an answer
to its childrens' all too foolish question.

Huh, even not understanding the language it sounds fairly beautiful to the ear. (I mean, as much as a northern language that mostly sounds like somebody's trying to clear their throat can. No offence, of course :sachi:)

I don't think I can read 'beautifully' in English, but I'm pretty sure I can in Portuguese.
