Unionism Quartet A-3 Days

I'm going to be frank... for people who liked the original game and those who didn't, this is a waste of time.  Do I sound like a jerk?  I'm not trying to be... I don't think I've ever come across such a weak direct sequel (since it really is a full game).  I sampled one of the new heroines, one of the main heroines from the original game, one of the secondary heroines from the original game, one of the sub-heroines from the original game, and one of the 'extra' heroines from the original game (Tia>Yurina>Silvia>Jubei>Minamo).  As a result, I came to a very straightforward conclusion...

... this game is crap.  Oh, in terms of visuals and sound effects, it is massively improved.  The main story, such as it is, has a few nice battle scenes too... but in every single path, after the shared scenes are over, it slips into a third-rate charage 'lovers' pattern.  The actual romance is lackluster, all the heroines already love the protagonist so there is no struggle, and all conflicts were either resolved in the previous game or in this one.

So what is there left to experience?  Ichaicha and h-scenes, my least favorite part of a VN.  There are no individual conflicts, difficulties, or troubles to resolve.  There are no grand difficulties that are unique to each heroine path... so what you have is a bunch of 'industry standard' post-drama heroine-protagonist lovey-dovey BS that drives me up the wall.

That isn't even mentioning that the new heroines suck, lol.

Yeah, I saw that reaction coming. I just made one play-through for Mariel so far, but the story parts felt very cheap in comparison to the original. It's like I said, more an art and scene gallery than a real homogenous story.

Fortunately, I'll still get some fun from the nice art and the romance stories since I like the heroines, but it's hard to argue that they wasted pretty much all potential just to be able to offer a cheap cooky-cutter romance story for even the last side character. They added even a 'confession button' - it can't get cheaper than that. :amane:

Yeah... it was really cheap.  It would have been more interesting if the protagonist had been forced to go to another knight school or something like that... without all the drama from the original, rehashing the heroines was boring, to say the least.

I was still happy to see the characters again in a sequel because I liked the first one but yeah the story is really bad in this one... Well it's a fan disk, I guess they just wanted the cash :/.

That's the weird thing about this title, it's not a cheap cash grab at all. According to the specification page it has about 1 MB text and 20% more CG's more than the original, which was already a rather large game. It exceeds the scope of a simple fan disc by far. It's also their only release since UQ 2 years ago, while most studios have a yearly or even tighter release schedule. That's precisely why it was so unexpected that it's still structured like a cheap fan disc, just with much more content.
