I like LG as a way to discover interesting games and reviews and such, but I'd rather let the comment speak for itself as a caricature of the mentality/priorities of some of its writers (present company excluded) and audience

Comments are only representative of the audience.  And it wasn't very clear that what you posted was a comment by a 3rd party (since you blacked out the poster).

Alright then, consider my impulsive joke debunked.

I just thought, and still do, that LG, both writers and audience, have some weird political priorities, and that this comment was a rather dumb and offensive example of that, and voila, a shitpost is born.
