Sayonara o Oshiete has a good number of English reviews (1 2 3), plus reddit comments (4), but what strikes me is that all of them are positive despite some noticed flaws. But as a plotge fetishist and pragmatist to the bones, I demand demolition of fake idols. This bastion shall fall today.
1) Sayonara o Oshiete has a synopsis, but does not have a story. Deal with it. Not
There are no masterpieces this month. My subjective choice for VN of the Month January 1998 is Machi - maybe it's the impact of 428 sequel. I've very difficult history with Divi-Dead as both times I tried it I fell asleep. No true ending is worth such boring gameplay. And I just can't appreciate dating SIMs without impact on story to evaluate Sentimental Graffiti properly.
1. Blood Seed 2 ブラッドシード２ Arkham Products 1
Foreword: Every time I start a slice of life charage I really want to like it. But too many companies follow the same trends and present the same product. For praising reviews please refer elsewhere 1 2 3 4 5 6 7.

Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai - Under the Innocent Sky. and Amber Quartz are the only masterpieces this month. I'm reviewing the latter. micchi has all the same titles, plus some delayed and one nukige.
1. Saiki Kanpatsu Saishoku Kenbi no Kimi-tachi e 才気煥発才色兼備の君たちへ Applique -Imouto-
There are two schools adjoining each other. They are big rivals and often have a fight. In the schools, there are four girls admired by other students. Tho

Kitto, Sumiwataru Asairo Yori mo is VN of the Month, Bengarachou Hakubutsushi makes another masterpiece. Micchi is especially excited about Natsuyume Nagisa and also about Owarinaki Natsu, Towa Naru Shirabe , but too much sweetness for me.

Foreword: I don't believe Alice Soft - they can only make eroge and bakage. But this game was highly praised overseas. Who knows, maybe it's the game that can overcome my aversion.
Developer: Alice Soft Date: 1998-05-28 VNDB link:https://vndb.org/v2261
Synopsis: In this world, here are two kinds of intelligent beings. One are humans and the other are Diaboliques. Diaboliques possess power, violence, intelligence, and eternal life. Their l
Foreword: Game first arouse my interest as alternative version of Subarashiki Hibi. Then I tried to get the glimpse of it by watching hentai OVA... and it was the worst hentai OVA I ever seen, so I was really infuriated since it did not say much about the game. Finally I've picked it up while investigating year 1999 and it struck me as something more serious than a nukige, especially after seeing those demon mind-screw CG. And it's been a while since I enjoyed a visual novel that much.
Foreword: Who does not know of Leaf company? Who does not know that its games Shizuku and Kizuato are considered the first modern type visual novels? But how many of us actually played those? There are some good English reviews of those (1 2 3 4 5 6 7) and I initially only relied on those as well. But the historical significance of Kizuato made me change priorities. Throughout the rest of 90-s and the first half of 2000-s I encountered quite many story-focused visual novels that are described by

Foreword: May had zero interesting releases without review for me, so I chose one with the English review already (1). My hope in nakige is crippled, so I wonder if it can be restored with this game, just as it affected this review's author.
Title: Ashita Deatta Shoujo
VNDB link: https://vndb.org/v464
Foreword: The reviews we have are pretty vague (1 2 3 4 5 6 7), so the impression of a very difficult work is created. I'm going to put all the dots so that there was not fear to read it.
Synopsis: This game tells the story of seven long-time friends. How they grew closer or further apart as they got older. The story is presented using a blog-like inte
Foreword: It's requested as extra review, so I'm pleased to tell what kind of masterpiece this game is. It does not mean I'm not reviewing Abandoner, though. Both games stood so close in the poll that I could not make my mind in any way.
Synopsis: The game revolves around the main character's 3 days repeating over and over again, where he is constantly
Foreword: I took up Tsuyokiss blindly hoping for a decent charage akin to Majikoi (same writer and also girl with katana) due to the high score this game gets. Moege equals trash for me. With such a high vote Tsuyokiss can't be a moege, right?
Synopsis: Tsuyokiss is about the lives of a group of high school students and the often comedic events that occ
There are only six titles this month to choose from, but four of those are masterpieces - Shinjisougeki Carnival, Devils Devel Concept, Like a Butler and Tapestry -you will meet yourself- . Reviewing first two. Micchi has pretty much the same, plus three vns that I block as nukige, but what's really funny is that he considers only delayed game Areas and Yoake fandisc big titles. Expectations and outcome don't necessarily coincide.
1. Shinjisougeki Carnival 神事双劇カーニバル Tales
Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai! is VN of the Month. Guess I'll need to review and evaluate doujin Abyss -Homicide Club- . As many as two doujin games during this August Comiket managed to crawl into the list. Micchi does not really see anything worthwhile, but he starts to add some synopsis starting from this month.
1. Abyss -Homicide Club- ABYSS -殺人クラブ- Festival 1
Sasayama Akira was born into a family of assassins and trained as
Hotel. is the only masterpiece for me in December. Micchi highlights some RPG and - naturally - a game about 345 imoutos
1. Ever17 CyberFront 1
Ever17 is the tale of seven individuals who come to be trapped 153 feet within the underwater marine theme park, LeMU. During an apparently normal day at the park, a massive accident happens, placing almost half of the facility underwater. The path to the surface and the communication l
Year 2013 exceeded my expectations. I was able to choose as many as 34 masterpieces, even one more than in fruitful 2012. Surprisingly, there's a better selection of chuunige as well - industry is absolutely alive and kicking. However, now it's truly the last year of abundance - sneak peek into 2014 shows the number of masterpieces being in the mid twenties. Visual Novel Openings 2013 .
My list of masterpieces in 2013:
Boku ga Tenshi ni Natta Wake
VN of the Month is Endless Dungeon with other masterpieces being Hikoukigumo no Mukougawa and Hello Lady! . Clephas nominated the last two. Micchi pulls out a ridiculous list of seven titles including additional Clover Day’s , Doko no Donata no Kanjou Route , Koisuru Natsu no Last Resort, fandisc and delayed ones.
1. Ar Nosurge ~Umareizuru Hoshi e Inoru Uta~ アルノサージュ ～生まれいずる星へ祈る詩～ Gust 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
On the planet Ra Ciel
I have difficult history with Island and its anime, but it was still a memorable event in VN history worth discussing, so I give it its due. Clephas chose Wagamama High Spec which I placed to February for formal reasons as it was a partial release and not demo back then. Micchi in addition obviously chooses D.S. -Dal Segno- , Natsu Uso -Ahead of the reminiscence- , Wizards Complex and a nukige.
1. Campus Notes - Forget Me Not. Campus Notes - Forget Me Not. 4th cluste
2019 hit the new bottom in many aspects and marked the beginning of COVID era, so there was a noticeable loss in attention for visual novels by the end of it. I counted only 13 masterpieces, could not even get 100 openings in Visual Novel Openings 2019 . Without a clear favorite I'll call Realive VN of the Year .
My list of masterpieces in 2019:
AI: The Somnium Files
Kanzume Shoujo no Shuumatsu Sekai
If I choose between indi touching crap, a lolicon moege, a twisted nukige , another mimikko moege and a single heroine nukige, what would entail the least cringe... there aren't good choices here, so I clench my teeth and call Kamisama no Shippo ~Etogami-sama tachi no Ongaeshi~ VN of the Month. What a wicked start of the year... Micchi does not mind this choice and also suggests Amairo Chocolata and a fandisc
1. Prison Princess プリズンプリンセス qureate 1 2
There are as many as two games about GameDev, and since there's not much else to look at, one of them Sousaku Kanojo no Ren'ai Koushiki becomes game of the Month.
1. Yuru Camp△ - Have a Nice Day! ゆるキャン△ Have a nice day! MAGES. GAME
Take on the roles of Kagamihara Nadeshiko and Shima Rin, and enjoy a branching story where the camp contents change in a big way based on your choices. With “what if” scenarios not depicted in the TV anime, this is a game Laid-Back Camp
