...Baa--- AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAA~~~ I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING WHAT IS THIS LIKE WHY WOULD YOU MAKE THIS?? WHY?? WHY ARE YOU COPYING AMERICA JAPAN? WHY IS THIS A GOOD IDEA? I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time keeping a straight face. Not to say anything on Huniepop (I haven't played it) but just...why do you think it's a good idea? On another hand Huniepop has VERY different strengths from the usual Japan-based VNs so I'm genuinely horrified/worried/hopeful about whether or not Frontwing spectacularly succeeds or fails about finding strengths of their own in this style. Then again we didn't take Huniepop seriously with a grain of salt until we actually played it ourselves.

It depends on the work at hand, but getting the audience to believe in that world, whether it's heavily realistic like Swan Song or something like Sengoku Rance, can be considered part of the writer's job along with the rest of the staff. It's an important part of what makes a piece of fiction work, and while I can tell this is close to the suspension of disbelief concept I can't tell if it's the exact same thing.

Are there any English VNs with exceptional prose?
Zodai replied to Zodai's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I can't find it ;-; -
Recently received some feedback on a draft of mine, and while it wasn't quite what I was asking one of the things noted was that the writing, while technically sound, felt generic - upon further analysis formulaic was another term used by a team member. While it's not something I've noted personally, I'd like some examples of more exceptional prose/narration in order to base it off of. If I knew Japanese, I would likely jump to Dies Irae, but I don't know nearly enough for that, and I'm writing in English to begin with. If it's translated, something with exceptional quality in both the meaning, technical soundness, and especially the flow and impact of the words themselves outside of the dialogue. NVL, first person preferred. Is there anything that comes to mind? How is the prose good in particular? What does it accomplish and how does it tie in with the other elements of the story?

Confession: Polishing text boxes with a programmer is actually a long and arduous event.

I've been talking w/ the programmer about some User Interface design for an early prototype, and I realized I know barely anything about what actually goes into this. It's something I don't have much experience in. What examples of User Interface, or the UI, have you seen in VNs that fell good to you? What are the differences between a good UI and a bad one? Are there any elements in the UI you think would be good to have?

Visual Novel Sprites - Mouth open or closed while speaking?
Zodai replied to Zodai's topic in Visual Novel Talk
If I remember correctly, Moro actually has his mouth open in a small circle-ish shape sometimes - I remember seeing that so I pulled a reference from the net. Though it's still taking up a small amount of space and everyone in this scene has their mouths open. -
So, we have an artist for our VN project finally, and he's been running a bunch of tests on art style, aesthetic and whatnot using the protagonist as a base. I noticed most of the mouths were closed during the style tests, which makes sense since the character is rather restrained or reserved, but it got me thinking about whether or not having the mouth closed when the text is having a character speak would be a little bit strange - having it closed makes it easier to use it to express emotion but I wasn't sure what to take. So, I opened up Majikoi to take a look, and to my surprise when I loaded up my save, early in the common route when the old man first shows up on the bridge and Momoyo chases Capt. around, that the mouths are actually closed while speaking at a rather alarming rate. They open their mouths quite a bit but it doesn't seem to be based around whether or not they're speaking at the moment at all, though I don't know the design logic behind it yet myself. Capt. seemed to have his mouth open to some degree more than the others as well. So, I ask you - when a character is speaking, should the mouth on their sprite usually be open, or is there some other logic to this? Do you know of any VNs where the sprite design almost always has a character's mouth open while they're speaking?

Okay I found it, apparently you had a Live account as well and it was confusing.
